Object-Oriented Technology ; ECOOP 2001 Workshops, Panel, and Posters, Budapest, Hungary, June 18-22, 2001. Proceedings
For the ?fth time in its history, in cooperation with Springer-Verlag, the European C- ference on Object-Oriented Programming (ECOOP) conference series is glad to offer the object-oriented research community the ECOOP 2001 Workshop Reader, a c- pendium of workshop reports, panel transcripts, and poster abstracts pertaining to the ECOOP 2001 conference, held in Budapest from 18 to 22 June, 2001. ECOOP 2001 hosted 19 high-quality workshops covering a large spectrum of - search topics. The workshops attracted 460 participants on the ?rst two days of the conference. Originally 22 workshops were chosen from 26 proposals by a workshop selection committee, following a peer review process. Due to the overlaps in the areas of interest and the suggestions made by the committee six of the groups decided to merge their topicsintothreeworkshops.
Introduction to Bayesian Statistics
This is the second and translated edition of the German book “Einf ̈uhrung in die Bayes-Statistik, Springer-Verlag, Berlin Heidelberg New York, 2000”. It has been completely revised and numerous new developments are pointed out together with the relevant literature. The Chapter 5.2.4 is extended by the stochastic trace estimation for variance components. The new Chapter 5.2.6 presents the estimation of the regularization parameter of type Tykhonov regularization for inverse problems as the ratio of two variance components.The reconstruction and the smoothing of digital three-dimensional images is demonstrated in the new Chapter 5.3. The Chapter 6.2.1 on importance sampling for the Monte Carlo integration is rewritten to solve a more general integral. This chapter contains also the derivation of the SIR (sampling-importance-resampling) algorithm as an alternative to the rejection method for generating random samples. Markov Chain Monte Carlo methods are now frequently applied in Bayesian statistics.
International law and litigation
With the increasing jurisdictionalisation of international law, the interest of academics and practitioners in international disputes is growing steadily. However, little attention has been paid to the procedural aspects of international dispute settlement. On the basis of current legal research, this volume examines the role of procedures in the areas of international law, international commercial law, human rights and EU law.
Fuzzy Probability and Statistics
This book combines material from our previous books FP (Fuzzy Probabilities: New Approach and Applications,Physica-Verlag, 2003) and FS (Fuzzy Statistics, Springer, 2004), plus has about one third new results. From FP we have material on basic fuzzy probability, discrete (fuzzy Poisson,binomial) and continuous (uniform, normal, exponential) fuzzy random variables. From FS we included chapters on fuzzy estimation and fuzzy hypothesis testing related to means, variances, proportions, correlation and regression. New material includes fuzzy estimators for arrival and service rates, and the uniform distribution, with applications in fuzzy queuing theory. Also, new to this book, is three chapters on fuzzy maximum entropy (imprecise side conditions) estimators producing fuzzy distributions and crisp discrete/continuous distributions.

Content Infrastructure management : Results of an empirical study in the print industry
Alexander Benlian explores the question of whether to centralize or to decentralize media content. The findings basically emphasize the need to design publishing organizations that follow certain patterns of congruency and consistency in order to realize greater effectiveness. These observed patterns or invariabilities may provide infrastructure managers with a benchmark against which to reassess the design of their own content allocation configuration. Aligned content infrastructures can be considered to dramatically increase the smoothness of content flows and to enhance production and bundling capabilities.

Buildings : Theory and Applications
This book treats Jacques Tits's beautiful theory of buildings, making that theory accessible to readers with minimal background. It includes all the material of the earlier book Buildings by the second-named author, published by Springer-Verlag in 1989, which gave an introduction to buildings from the classical (simplicial) point of view. This new book also includes two other approaches to buildings, which nicely complement the simplicial approach: On the one hand, buildings may be viewed as abstract sets of chambers with a Weyl-group-valued distance function; this point of view has become increasingly important in the theory and applications of buildings. On the other hand, buildings may be viewed as metric spaces. Beginners can still use parts of the new book as a friendly introduction to buildings, but the book also contains valuable material for the active researcher.
