Voice controlled robotic arm

The study presents an innovative voice-controlled prosthetic hand for amputees below the elbow to retrieve some of the hand movements of their daily life. This light weight hand is designed to enable movement of the fingers as the user commands, using artificial intelligence (AI) and a Raspberry Pi 4 computer. A speech recognition algorithm is used to detect the spoken command from the user and send it to the AI module which then drives servomotors placed inside each finger of the prosthetic hand in order to give motion. With help of a mobile application that allows the user to insert new commands with different moves among other features.

Spoken Multimodal Human-Computer Dialogue in Mobile Environments

This book is based on publications from the ISCA Tutorial and Research Workshop on Multi-Modal Dialogue in Mobile Environments held at Kloster Irsee, Germany, in 2002. The workshop covered various aspects of devel- ment and evaluation of spoken multimodal dialogue systems and components with particular emphasis on mobile environments, and discussed the state-- the-art within this area. Race, Ethnicity and Education in Globalised Times

This book broaches what has become a ‘noisy silence’ whereby conversations about race and ethnic relationships are understood as unbalanced, irrelevant or as too dangerous to speak about. It is concerned with the ways that race and ethnic relationships are spoken about in contemporary western societies such as Australia and the changed and confused debates that underpin those discussions. Parents and teachers at one State secondary school in Melbourne, Australia speak about race and ethnic relationships as their school community is increasingly altered by globalising, technological and population change. Multilingual Information Access for Text, Speech and Images ; 5th Workshop of the Cross-Language Evaluation Forum, CLEF 2004, Bath, UK, September 15-17, 2004, Revised Selected Papers

The ?fth campaign of the Cross-Language Evaluation Forum (CLEF) for Eu- pean languages was held from January to September 2004. Participation in the CLEF campaigns has increased each year and CLEF 2004 was no exception: 55 groups submitted results for one or more of the di?erent tracks compared with 42 groups in the previous year. CLEF 2004 also marked a breaking point with respect to previous campaigns. The focus was no longer mainly concentrated on multilingual document retrieval as in previous years but was diversi?ed to include di?erent kinds of text retrieval across languages (e. g. , exact answers in the question-answering track) and retrieval on di?erent kinds of media (i. e. , not just plain text but collections containing image and speech as well). In ad- tion, increasing attention was given to issues that regard system usability and user satisfaction with tasks to measure the e?ectiveness of interactive systems or system components being included in both the cross-language question - swering and image retrieval tasks with the collaboration of the coordinators of the interactive track. The campaign culminated in a two-and-a-half-day workshop held in Bath, UK, 15–17 September, immediately following the 8th European Conference on Digital Libraries. The workshop was attended by nearly 100 researchers and s- tem developers.

Constraint solving and language processing

Contains selected and thoroughly revised papers plus contributions from invited speakers presented at the First International Workshop on C- straint Solving and Language Processing, held in Roskilde, Denmark, September 1–3, 2004. Constraint Programming and Constraint Solving, in particular Constraint Logic Programming, appear to be a very promising platform, perhaps the most promising present platform, for bringing forward the state of the art in natural language processing, this due to the naturalness in speci?cation and the direct relation to e?cient implementation. Language, in the present context, may - fer to written and spoken language, formal and semiformal language, and even general input data to multimodal and pervasive systems, which can be handled in very much the same ways using constraint programming. The notion of constraints, with slightly differing meanings, apply in the characterization of linguistic and cognitive phenomena, in formalized linguistic m- els as well as in implementation-oriented frameworks. Programming techniques for constraint solving have been, and still are, in a period with rapid devel- ment of new eficient methods and paradigms from which language processing can prompt. A common metaphor for human language processing is one big c- straint solving process in which the differently specified linguistic and cognitive phases take place in parallel and with mutual cooperation, which ?ts quite well with current constraint programming paradigms.
