Unifying the Software Process Spectrum ; International Software Process Workshop, SPW 2005, Beijing, China, May 25-27, 2005 Revised Selected Papers
This volume contains papers presented at SPW 2005, the Software Process Workshop held in Beijing, P. R. China, on May 25-27, 2005, and prepared for final publication. The theme of SPW2005 was “Unifying the Software Process Spectrum. ” Software process encompasses all the activities that aim at developing or evolving software products. The expanding role of software and information systems in the world has focused increasing attention on the need for assurances that software systems can be developed at acceptable speed and cost, on a predictable schedule, and in such a way that resulting systems are of acceptably high quality and can be evolved surely and rapidly as usage contexts change.
Software Quality — ECSQ 2002 ; Quality Connection - 7th European Conference on Software Quality, Helsinki, Finland, June 9-13, 2002. Proceedings
We have selected two themes for this conference . Our ?rst theme, “production of attractive and reliable software at Internet speed” sums up the dilemma many software organisations face. In order to be competitive, software should contain advanced features and run reliably – yet it should be developed quickly and cost e?ectively for the right market window. Finding the right balance between these objectives is a critical question that will determine business success in the years to come. Our second theme, “production of software with a dynamic partnership n- work” highlights the current trend of using partnerships and subcontractors as integral players in the software development process. Partnerships sometimes need to be created quickly to respond to a market opportunity, yet the costs and speed of cooperation must be competitive.

Reuse of Off-the-Shelf Components ; 9th International Conference on Software Reuse, ICSR 2006, Torino, Italy, June 12-15, 2006, Proceedings
Software reuse as an umbrella concept has been around for several decades. Over time, new techniques and approaches have been proposed to implement the concept, from libraries of reusable assets to product lines, to generative methods. These latter techniques are mostly used in intra-organizational reuse, and require considerable formal knowledge over the evolution of technology and required functionality in a domain over several years. On the other end of the spectrum, extra-organizational reuse is based on reuse of off-the-shelf (OTS) software (both open and closed source, acquired for free or for a fee). Here, a limited investment and immediate availability of the assets have widely spread the approach.
Product-Focused Software Process Improvement ; 7th International Conference, PROFES 2006, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, June 12-14, 2006, Proceedings
Brought together researchers and industrial practitioners for reporting new research results and exchanging experiences and findings in the area of process and product improvement. The focus of the conference was on understanding, evaluating, controlling, and improving the relationship between process improvement activities (such as the deployment of innovative defect detection processes) and their effects on products (such as improved product reliability and safety). Consequently, major topics of the conference included the evaluation of existing software process improvement (SPI) approaches in different contexts, the presentation of new or modified SPI approaches, and the relation between SPI and new development techniques or emerging application domains. The need for SPI is being widely recognized.
Extreme Programming and Agile Processes in Software Engineering ; Vol.4044 ; 7th International Conference, XP 2006, Oulu, Finland, June 17-22, 2006, Proceedings
In its first editions, this conference was a get-together of a few pioneers who - bated about how to make agile processes and methods accepted by the mainstream researchers and practitioners in software engineering. Now agile approach to software development has been fully accepted by the software engineering community and this event has become the major forum for understanding better the implications of agility in software development and proposing extensions to the mainstream approaches. These two aspects were fully reflected in this year’s conference. They were - flected in the keynote speeches, which covered the background work done starting as early as the early eighties by Barry Boehm, definition of the field by Kent Beck, a successful industrial application in a success story by Sean Hanly, the perspective and the future of agile methods in large corporations by Jack Järkvik, and even some - sightful views from a philosopher, Pekka Himanen.

Extreme Programming has come a long way since its ?rst use in the C3 project almost 10 years ago. Agile methods have found their way into the mainstream, and at the end of last year we saw the second edition of Kent Beck’s book on Extreme Programming, containing a major refactoring of XP. This year, the 6th International Conference on Extreme Programming and Agile Processes in Software Engineering took place June 18–23 in She?eld. As in the yearsbefore, XP 2005provideda unique forum for industry and academic professionals to discuss their needs and ideas on Extreme Programming and - ile methodologies. These proceedings re?ect the activities during the conference which ranged from presentation of research papers, invited talks, posters and demonstrations, panels and activity sessions, to tutorials and workshops. - cluded are also papers from the Ph.D. and Master’s Symposium which provided a forum for young researchers to present their results and to get feedback. Asvariedastheactivities werethe topicsofthe conferencewhichcoveredthe presentationofnewandimprovedpractices,empiricalstudies,experiencereports and case studies, and last but not least the social aspects of agile methods. The papers and the activities went through a rigorous reviewing process. Each paper was reviewed by at least three Program Committee members and wasdiscussedcarefullyamongtheProgramCommittee.Of62paperssubmitted, only 22 were accepted as full papers.
