Gas Adsorption Equilibria : Experimental Methods and Adsorptive Isotherms

This book is intended to present for the first time experimental methods to measure equilibria states of pure and mixed gases being adsorbed on the surface of solid materials. It has been written for engineers and scientists from industry and academia who are interested in adsorption-based gas separation processes and/or in using gas adsorption for characterization of the porosity of solid materials.Special emphasis is given to uncertainties of data and pros and cons of all measurement methods are offered.

Future Satellite Gravimetry and Earth Dynamics

Currently, a first generation of dedicated satellite missions for the precise mapping of the Earth’s gravity field is in orbit (CHAMP, GRACE, and soon GOCE). The gravity data from these satellite missions provide us with very new information on the dynamics of planet Earth. In particular, on the mass distribution in the Earth’s interior, the entire water cycle (ocean circulation, ice mass balance, continental water masses, and atmosphere), and on changes in the mass distribution. The results are fascinating, but still rough with respect to spatial and temporal resolution. Technical progress in satellite-to-satellite tracking and in gravity gradiometry will allow more detailed results in the future. In this special issue, Earth scientists develop visions of future applications based on follow-on high-precision satellite gravimetry missions.

EU-Turkey Relations : Theories, Institutions, and Policies

This book explores the new complexities and ambiguities that epitomize EU-Turkey relations. With a strong focus on the developments in the last decade, the book provides full access to a comprehensive understanding of the multifaceted relationship through three entry points: (1) Theories and Concepts, (2) Institutions, and (3) Policies. Part I brings together complementary and competing analytical approaches to study the evolution of EU-Turkey relations, ranging from traditional integration theories to novel concepts. Part II investigates the institutional machinery of EU-Turkey relations by analyzing the roles and perspectives of the European Council, the European Commission, and the European Parliament. Part III offers analyses of the policies most relevant for the relationship: enlargement policy, trade and macroeconomic policies, foreign and security policy, migration and asylum policies, and energy policy. In Part IV, the volume closes with a systematic survey of the conditions under which cooperative trends in EU-Turkey relations could be (re)invigorated. The systematic setup and the balanced combination of distinguished experts from EU- and Turkey-based institutions make this book a fundamental reading for students, researchers, lecturers, and practitioners of EU-Turkey relations, European integration and Turkish foreign policy.

European Large Lakes Ecosystem changes and their ecological and socioeconomic impacts

Large lakes offer socio-economic benefits and can be used in many ways, and are often areas in which economic, cultural and political interests overlap. In this book the problems regarding the present status of European large lakes and the directions of change are discussed. Threats caused by direct human impact and by climate change, protection needs and restoration measures are considered.

Equity Valuation Using Multiples : An Empirical Investigation

Andreas Schreiner examines the role of multiples in equity valuation. He transforms the standard multiples valuation method into a comprehensive framework for using multiples in valuation practice, which corresponds to economic theory and is consistent with the results of a broad empirical study of European and U.S. equity markets.

Lasers in the Conservation of Artworks ; LACONA VI Proceedings, Vienna, Austria, Sept. 21--25, 2005

In 1995 Professor Costas Fotakis brought together restorers and scientists to discuss the potential of lasers in art conservation. Since then the field of "Lasers in the Conservation of Artworks" has gained enormously in importance. Nowadays restorers and laser scientists work close together in order to develop new fields of applications during the last years.

Cinematic Histospheres: On the Theory and Practice of Historical Films

In this book, film scholar Rasmus Greiner develops a theoretical model for the concept of the histosphere to refer to the “sphere” of a cinematically modelled, physically experienceable historical world.

Bisphosphonates in medical practice : Actions - side effects - indications - strategies

Clinical osteology is now an independent specialty which nevertheless encompasses all branches of medicine and effects each and every one of us: Bone is Every Body´s Business: This book has been designed as an up to date manual to deal with the currently recognized indications for bisphosphonates, to outline situations and conditions for prevention of skeletal disorders, and to provide practical guidelines for treatment. It is intended for doctors who seek precise information on bisphosphonates in medical practice to enable them to treat patients with disorders of bone or better still to avoid their occurrence .

Best practices in software measurement : How to use metrics to improve project and process performance

Not everything that counts can be counted. Not everything that is counted counts. Albert Einstein This is a book about software measurement from the practitioner’s point of view and it is a book for practitioners. Software measurement needs a lot of practical guidance to build upon experiences and to avoid repeating errors. This book t- gets exactly this need, namely to share experiences in a constructive way that can be followed. It tries to summarize experiences and knowledge about software measurement so that it is applicable and repeatable. It extracts experiences and lessons learned from the narrow context of the specific industrial situation, thus facilitating transfer to other contexts. Software measurement is not at a standstill. With the speed software engine- ing is evolving, software measurement has to keep pace. While the underlying theory and basic principles remain invariant in the true sense (after all, they are not specific to software engineering), the application of measurement to specific contexts and situations is continuously extended. The book thus serves as a ref- ence on these invariant principles as well as a practical guidance on how to make software measurement a success.
