Obstructions in Security-Aware Business Processes : Analysis, Detection, and Handling

This book explores the dilemma-like stalemate between security and regulatory compliance in business processes on the one hand and business continuity and governance on the other. The growing number of regulations, e.g., on information security, data protection, or privacy, implemented in increasingly digitized businesses can have an obstructive effect on the automated execution of business processes. Such security-related obstructions can particularly occur when an access control-based implementation of regulations blocks the execution of business processes. By handling obstructions, security in business processes is supposed to be improved. For this, the book presents a framework that allows the comprehensive analysis, detection, and handling of obstructions in a security-sensitive way. Thereby, methods based on common organizational security policies, process models, and logs are proposed. The Petri net-based modeling and related semantic and language-based research, as well as the analysis of event data and machine learning methods finally lead to the development of algorithms and experiments that can detect and resolve obstructions and are reproducible with the provided software.

Intersections de deux quadriques et pinceaux de courbes de genre 1 = Intersections of two quadrics and pencils of curves of genus 1

This research monograph focuses on the arithmetic, over number fields, of surfaces fibred into curves of genus 1 over the projective line, and of intersections of two quadrics in projective space. The first half contains a complete account of the technique initiated by Swinnerton-Dyer in 1993 for studying rational points on pencils of curves of genus 1, while incorporating and generalising most of its subsequent refinements. The second half, which builds upon the first, is devoted to quartic del Pezzo surfaces and higher-dimensional intersections of two quadrics.

Flow and transport processes with complex obstructions : Applications to cities, vegetative canopies and industry

The NATO Advanced Study Institute “Flow and Transport Processes in Complex - structed Geometries: from cities and vegetative canopies to engineering problems” was held in Kyiv, Ukraine in the period of May 4 - 15, 2004. This book based on the papers presented there provides an overview of this new area in ?uid mechanics and its app- cations that have developed over the past three decades. The subject, whose origins lie both in theory and in practice, is now rapidly developing in many directions. The focus of applied ?uid mechanics research has steadily been shifting from - gineering to environmental applications.

Emergencies in Urology

Emergencies in Urology is a comprehensive textbook covering one of the few remaining white spots on the map of urological literature. To date only a small number of publications have been dedicated to the topic of urgent and emergent problems in urology – important as these are in our daily clinical life. Therefore the editors, both of them internationally recognized urological experts, have taken the effort to present an in-depth study into virtually every possible urgent urological situation with which a urologist may be confronted today. Consequently, the book includes chapters on topics such as urological trauma, urosepsis, urinary obstruction, oncological emergencies, intra- and postoperative complications, acute problems in children, and many more. They did so not only by writing the regular book chapters but also by delivering short stories about urgent situations they encountered in their own professional life. These vignettes are one of the rare opportunities where experience can be relayed without restriction from one urological generation to the next.

Deformations of Algebraic Schemes

This study has become increasingly important in algebraic geometry in every context where variational phenomena come into play, and in classification theory, e.g. the study of the local properties of moduli spaces.Today deformation theory is highly formalized and has ramified widely within mathematics. This self-contained account of deformation theory in classical algebraic geometry (over an algebraically closed field) brings together for the first time some results previously scattered in the literature, with proofs that are relatively little known, yet of everyday relevance to algebraic geometers. Based on Grothendieck's functorial approach it covers formal deformation theory, algebraization, isotriviality, Hilbert schemes, Quot schemes and flag Hilbert schemes. It includes applications to the construction and properties of Severi varieties of families of plane nodal curves, space curves, deformations of quotient singularities, Hilbert schemes of points, local Picard functors, etc. Many examples are provided. Most of the algebraic results needed are proved.

Loop Spaces, Characteristic Classes and Geometric Quantization

This book deals with the differential geometry of manifolds, loop spaces, line bundles and groupoids, and the relations of this geometry to mathematical physics. Various developments in mathematical physics (e.g., in knot theory, gauge theory, and topological quantum field theory) have led mathematicians and physicists to search for new geometric structures on manifolds and to seek a synthesis of ideas from geometry, topology and category theory. In this spirit, this book develops the differential geometry associated to the topology and obstruction theory of certain fiber bundles (more precisely, associated to grebes). The theory is a 3-dimensional analog of the familiar Kostant--Weil theory of line bundles. In particular the curvature now becomes a 3-form.

Analysis, design and construction of steel space frames

Space frames provide a lightweight solution to the problem of creating large span enclosures free from obstructions. They are employed in many major constrcution projects across the world, as documented in this authoritatively written volume. This is the first in-depth book to present all instances and applications of space frames in various engineering schemes. It uses case studies and numerous illustrations to examine steel space frames from their design to their structural engineering performance.
