Voltage-Enhanced Processing of Biomass and Biochar
The book explains aspects of this processing method in thermal and non-thermal plasmas, as well as describing the effects of Joule heating as part of the temperature distribution and conversion rate. In many ways, this book presents a detailed description of different processes and plasma discharges currently available, with the provision of experimental and simulation results gathered over years of research and development. Importantly, it also offers many methods by which we can be environmentally friendly when working with biomass and biochar.

This volume deals with many aspects of the physical and chemical limnology of the Salton Sea, California’s largest lake and a lake that may soon to be the object of a multi-billion dollar restoration project. Formed in 1905 by an accidental breaching of outtake structures on the Colorado River, and maintained since then by large and steady inflows of agricultural wastewaters, it has long served as an important habitat for fish and waterbirds and as a major recreational area for people. Highlly eutrophic and with a salinity that is steadily rising and now nearly 50 g/L, it is a lake in great trouble. Most fish species have disappeared, and large fish and bird dieoffs have been common in recent decades. Many of the papers in this volume represent studies undertaken with the aim of informing the re-engineering of this ecosystem so that its value to wildlife and man can be restored or enhanced.

Success of University Spin-Offs : Network Activities and Moderating Effects of Internal Communication and Adhocracy
Drawing on a database of 107 university spin-offs whose founders participated in structured face-to-face interviews, Manoj A. Gupte analyzes how the management of university spin-offs can overcome the dilemma of resource poverty. He shows that the success of spin-offs can be actively influenced through network activities by accessing critical resources external to the company. In addition, internal communication and an adhocracy culture create an environment in which the growth of a spin-off through external resources is enhanced. The hypotheses of the study were tested by moderated multiple regression analyses (OLS). Interaction effects were, furthermore, analyzed by simple slope analyses.
