Contains the collected contributions of two conferences, Calculemus 2007 and MKM 2007. Calculemus 2007 was the 14th in a series of conferences dedicated to the integration of computer algebra systems (CAS) and automated deduction systems (ADS). MKM 2007 was the sixth International Conference on Mathematical Knowledge Management, an emerging interdisciplinary field of research in the intersection of mathematics, computer science, library science, and scientific publishing. Both conferences aimed to provide mechanized mathematical assistants. Although the two conferences have separate communities and separate foci, there is a signi?cant overlap in the interests in building mechanized mathematical assistants. For this reason it was decided to collocate the two events in 2007 for the first time, at RISC in Hagenberg, Austria.

Three-Phase Diode Rectifiers with Low Harmonics : Current Injection Methods

In this book, principles of the current injection are discussed first. This discussion is followed by an analysis of various magnetic current injection devices. The third harmonic current injection is discussed next, and several current injection networks are analyzed. The optimal current injection is the topic that follows, and the requirements imposed to the current injection network in order to provide the optimal current injection are derived. Several current injection networks that provide the optimal current injection are proposed, and some parasitic effects are discussed. Recovery of the power taken by the current injection networks is analyzed, and two types of passive resistance emulators are analyzed in detail, the current-loaded resistance emulator, and the voltage-loaded resistance emulator. Avoiding the inductor of the current injection network results in mutipulse operation of the current injection based rectifiers with passive resistance emulators, which is discussed next.

The Generic Chaining : Upper and Lower Bounds of Stochastic Processes

What is the maximum level a certain river is likely to reach over the next 25 years? (Having experienced three times a few feet of water in my house, I feel a keen personal interest in this question. ) There are many questions of the same nature: what is the likely magnitude of the strongest earthquake to occur during the life of a planned building, or the speed of the strongest wind a suspension bridge will have to stand All these situations can be modeled in the same manner. The value X of the quantity of interest (be it water t level or speed of wind) at time t is a random variable. What can be said about the maximum value of X over a certain range of t? t A collection of random variables (X ), where t belongs to a certain index t set T, is called a stochastic process, and the topic of this book is the study of the supremum of certain stochastic processes, and more precisely to find upper and lower bounds for the quantity EsupX

The Double Dynamic Martin Screw (DMS) : Adjustable Implant System for Proximal and Distal Femur Fractures

The scope and importance of hip fractures is almost incomprehensible. With a world wide incidence of close to 2 million cases per year, theses fractures pose a daunting challenge to our ability to affect and treat this epidemic. Basics for operative treatment of proximal and distal femur fractures: Clear surgical indication / Short planning and preparation < 24 h / Full weight bearing osteosynthesis / Early mobilisation and physiotherapy / In comprehensive form the book presents the usage of a meanwhile well installed implant (DMS) for osteosynthesis technique in the peritrochanteric region. The „double dynamic" stabilization (sliding tongue principle and angle adapted contoured fit) means a state of the art fracture treatment procedure. It is a convincing alternative to achieve a biological osteosynthesis at the femur. The system includes an infinitely adjustable, flexible angle, dynamic plate with a tubular distal part.

Polyelectrolytes and Nanoparticles

Guides chemists through demonstrations of synergistic effects between polyelectrolytes and nanoparticles. After a short introduction into the field of polyelectrolytes and polyelectrolyte characterization, the role of polyelectrolytes in the process of nanoparticle formation is discussed in more detail. However, polyelectrolytes can directly influence the growing of nanoparticles and also can stabilize the nanoparticles formed. Therefore, the nanoparticle formation in polyelectrolyte-modified template phases, e.g. microemulsions, is of growing interest. Finally, methods for characterization of the polyelectrolyte-modified nanoparticles are explained. The adsorption of polyelectrolytes can be detected by measuring the zeta potential at the nanoparticle surface by means of electrophoretic light scattering, acoustophoresis or streaming potential measurements.
