Myosins : A Superfamily of Molecular Motors
Application of state-of-the-art cellular and molecular biological, structural biological, genetic, biochemical and biophysical techniques has provided and continues to provide critical information regarding the structure–function relationship; and the cellular roles of various myosins in organisms as diverse as protozoa, yeast, plants and higher animals. The association of myosins with diseases including neurological disorders, immu- deficiencies, cardiomyopathies, hearing and vision loss testify to the importance of understanding the biochemical properties and cellular roles of myosins. The 16 chapters in this volume summarize the tremendous progress made in studying members of the myosin superfamily in recent years and offer critical insight into what future research will yield.

PREFACE The Joint FAO/IAEA Division of Nuclear Techniques in Food and Agriculture is involved in agricultural research and development and assists Member States of FAO and IAEA in improving strategies to ensure food security through the use of nuclear techniques and related biotechnologies, where such techniques have a valuable and often unique role. In particular, molecular diagnostic methods have rapidly evolved in the past twenty years, since the advent of the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). They are used in a wide range of agricultural areas such as, improving soil and water management; producing better crop varieties; diagnosing plant and animal diseases; controlling insect pests and improving food quality and safety. The uses of nucleic acid-directed methods have increased significantly in the past five years and have made important contributions to disease control country programmes for improving national and international trade. These developments include the more routine use of PCR as a diagnostic tool in veterinary diagnostic laboratories. However, there are many problems associated with the transfer and particularly, the application of this technology. These include lack of consideration of: the establishment of quality-assured procedures, the required set-up of the laboratory and the proper training of staff. This can lead to a situation where results are not assured. This book gives a comprehensive account of the practical aspects of PCR and strong consideration is given to ensure its optimal use in a laboratory environment. Introduction to Numerical Methods in Differential Equations
This is a textbook for upper division undergraduates and beginning graduate students. Its objective is that students learn to derive, test and analyze numerical methods for solving differential equations, and this includes both ordinary and partial differential equations. In this sense the book is constructive rather than theoretical, with the intention that the students learn to solve differential equations numerically and understand the mathematical and computational issues that arise when this is done. An essential component of this is the exercises, which develop both the analytical and computational aspects of the material. The importance of the subject of the book is that most laws of physics involve differential equations, as do the modern theories on financial assets.
Internationalisation of European ICT Activities : Dynamics of Information and Communications Technology
The internationalisation of information and communication technologies has accelerated since the 1990s in Europe and worldwide. Taking a close look at the empirical analysis of competitive trade positions, trends in foreign direct investment and the internationalisation of research and development in ICT brings many new insights about the expansion, innovation and adjustment in the EU’s most dynamic sector. Moreover, the analysis discusses case studies on key players in ICT and suggests major policy conclusions for a field considered fundamental in the context of the EU’s Lisbon Agenda. Interdisciplinary mathematics education : A state of the art
This book provides an essential introduction to the state-of the-art in interdisciplinary Mathematics Education. First, it begins with an outline of the field’s relevant historical, conceptual and theoretical backgrounds, what “discipline” means and how inter-, trans-, and meta-disciplinary activities can be understood. Relevant theoretical perspectives from Marx, Foucault and Vygotsky are explained, along with key ideas in theory, e.g. boundaries, discourses, identity, and the division of labour in practice. Second, the book reviews research findings of mainly empirical studies on interdisciplinary work involving mathematics in education, in all stages of education that have become disciplined. For example, it reports that a common theme in studies in middle and high schools is assessing the motivational benefits for the learner of subsuming disciplinary motives and even practices to extra-academic problem-solving activities; this is counter-balanced by the effort needed to overcome the disciplinary boundaries in academic institutions, and in professional identities. These disciplinary boundaries are less obviously limitations in middle and primary schools, and in some vocational courses. Third and finally, it explores selected case studies that illustrate these concepts and findings, both in terms of the motivational benefits for learners and the institutional and other boundaries involved.

The world’s largest Internet Service Provider has recently stated that it expects traffic capacity on its regional trunks to grow to a 1-10 petabit range over the next four to five years. Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM), long-haul fiber-optic links and high-capacity all-optical circuit switches are now being employed at the Internet core to process such massive traffic, consequently creating a demand for novel high-performance packet switching technologies (IP routers, ATM switches, and Ethernet Switches) which feed the optical core.

Although conventional treatments are still common, as a first method in treatment, advanced new treatments have opened new horizon and have shown good efficacy in inhibiting cancer, either by treating them alone or in combination with conventional treatments, such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy. We mention in this research the latest methods of cancer treatment, such as targeted therapies in the treatment of solid cancers and leukemia. and will also mention the annual incidence rates of lines around the world. In cooperation with the head of the hematology division at the Mouwasat Hospital, Dr. Amin Suleiman, we studied cases of CML and MM patients being treated with modern therapies.
