Business cycle dynamics : Models and tools

Business cycle theory has been one of the fastest growing fields in modern nonlinear economic dynamics. The book is centered around models of multiplier-accelerator type, emerging from Samuelson's seminal work, later developed into nonlinear formats by Hicks and Goodwin. These models left open ends, as the tools then available did not permit more systematic analysis.

Arts, Sciences, and Economics : A Historical Safari

This book has a rather long-winding history. It is not like anything else the present author ever wrote, as all the rest is theoretical economics in a d- tinctively mathematical dress. For the emergence of the following pages, there are several people, - cept the author, who are to have the credit, or perhaps the blame.

Local and Semi-Local Bifurcations in Hamiltonian Dynamical Systems : Results and Examples

Once again KAM theory is committed in the context of nearly integrable Hamiltonian systems. While elliptic and hyperbolic tori determine the distribution of maximal invariant tori, they themselves form n-parameter families. Hence, without the need for untypical conditions or external parameters, torus bifurcations of high co-dimension may be found in a single given Hamiltonian system. The text moves gradually from the integrable case, in which symmetries allow for reduction to bifurcating equilibria, to non-integrability, where smooth parametrisations have to be replaced by Cantor sets. Planar singularities and their versal unfoldings are an important ingredient  that helps to explain the underlying dynamics in a transparent way.

Limit Cycles of Differential Equations

Contains the lecture series originally delivered at the "Advanced Course on Limit Cycles of Differential Equations" in the Centre de Recerca Matemàtica Barcelona in 2006.The topics covered are the center-focus problem for polynomial vector fields, and the application of abelian integrals to limit cycle bifurcations. Both topics are related to Hilbert's sixteenth problem. In particular, the book will be of interest to students and researchers working in the qualitative theory of dynamical systems.

Chaos in Structural Mechanics

This volume introduces and reviews novel theoretical approaches to modeling strongly nonlinear behaviour of either individual or interacting structural mechanical units such as beams, plates and shells or composite systems thereof.

Bifurcations, Instabilities, Degradation in Geomechanics

Leading international researchers and practitioners of bifurcations and instabilities in geomechanics debate the developments and applications which have occurred over the last few decades. The topics covered include modeling of bifurcation, structural failure of geomaterials and geostructures, advanced analytical, numerical and experimental techniques, and application and development of generalised continuum models etc. In addition analytical solutions, numerical methods, experimental techniques, and case histories are presented. Beside fundamental research findings, applications in geotechnical, petroleum, mining, and bulk materials engineering are emphasised.

Averaging Methods in Nonlinear Dynamical Systems

The authors have presented an extensive revision of the first edition of the Averaging Methods in Nonlinear Dynamical Systems book. There are many changes, corrections and updates in chapters on Basic Material and Asymptotics, Averaging, and Attraction.

Attractivity and bifurcation for nonautonomous dynamical systems

Although, bifurcation theory of equations with autonomous and periodic time dependence is a major object of research in the study of dynamical systems since decades, the notion of a nonautonomous bifurcation is not yet established. In this book, two different approaches are developed which are based on special definitions of local attractivity and repulsivity.

Applied Mathematics for Restructured Electric Power Systems : Optimization, Control, and Computational Intellige

Discusses the use of applied mathematics to solve challenging power system problems. This book covers such areas as: control, optimization, and computational intelligence. It follows a three-part format: a description of an important power system problem or problems; the practice and/or particular research approaches; and, research directions.
