E-Commerce and Web Technologies ; Vol. 3590 ; 6th International conference, EC-Web 2005, Copenhagen, Denmark, August 23-26, 2005, Proceedings
We welcome you to the 6th International Conference on E-Commerce and Web Technology (EC-Web 2005) held in Copenhagen, Denmark. It was held in conjunction with DEXA 2005. This conference was organized for the first time in Greenwich, UK, in 2000, and it has been able to attract an increasing number of participants and interest, reflecting the progress made in the field. As in the five previous years, EC-Web 2005 served as a forum that brought together researchers from academia and practitioners from industry to discuss the current state of the art in e-commerce and Web technologies.
Dynamic business law : The essentials
The importance and excitement of the law. We want them to be aware that business resides in an atmosphere of legal rights and responsibilities. The more they have an understanding of relevant law, the more their business activities will flourish. We tried to construct a book that contains the basics of business law but does not get bogged down in the kind of details that would be more appropriate in an upper-level law class.
Do Exclusionary Rules Ensure a Fair Trial? : A Comparative Perspective on Evidentiary Rules
This publication discusses exclusionary rules in different criminal justice systems. It is based on the findings of a research project in comparative law with a focus on the question of whether or not a fair trial can be secured through evidence exclusion. Part I explains the legal framework in which exclusionary rules function in six legal systems: Germany, Switzerland, People’s Republic of China, Taiwan, Singapore, and the United States. Part II is dedicated to selected issues identified as crucial for the assessment of exclusionary rules. These chapters highlight the delicate balance of interests required in the exclusion of potentially relevant information from a criminal trial and discusses possible approaches to alleviate the legal hurdles involved.
Disability in Islamic Law
The book analyzes attitudes to people with various disabilities based on Muslim jurists’ works (fiqh) in the Middle Ages and the modern era. In the Islamic legal literature people with disabilities are mentioned sporadically, and often within broad topics such as religious duties, jihad, marriage, etc., but seldom as a subject by its own right. Very little has been written so far on people with disabilities in a general Islamic context, much less in reference to Islamic law. This is the innovation of the book.

IWDW 2006 was held on Jeju, the dream island in Korea. The main theme of the workshop was “Meet the Challenges in this Digital World!” As we all know, digital watermarking and its related technologies have emerged as the key ingredients of this digital world. We report on new developments and discuss how to best utilize the watermarking and its related new technologies to cope with many challenging issues in this digital world.

We are delighted to welcome the attendees of the Fourth International Wo- shop on Digital Watermarking (IWDW). Watermarking continues to generate strong academic interest. Commercialization of the technology is proceeding at a steadypace. We haveseen watermarkingadoptedfor DVD audio.Fingerpri- ing technology was successfully used to determine the source of pirated video material. Furthermore, a number of companies are using watermarking as an enabling technology for broadcast monitoring services. Watermarking of digital cinema contentis anticipated. Future applications may also come from areas- related to digital rights management. For example, the use of watermarking to enhance legacy broadcast and communication systems is now being considered. IWDW 2005 o?ers an opportunity to re?ect upon the state of the art in digital watermarking as well as discuss directions for future research and applications. This year we accepted 31 papers from 74 submissions. This 42% acceptance rate indicates our commitment to ensuring a very high quality conference.

We are happy to present to you the proceedings of the 3rd International Workshop on Digital Watermarking, IWDW 2004. Since its modern reappearance in the academic community in the early 1990s, great progress has been made in understanding both the capabilities and the weaknesses of digital watermarking. On the theoretical side, we all are now well aware of the fact that digital watermarking is best viewed as a form of communication using side information. In the case of digital watermarking the side information in question is the document to be watermarked. This insight has led to a better understanding of the limits of the capacity and robustness of digital watermarking algorithms. It has also led to new and improved watermarking algorithms, both in terms of capacity and imperceptibility. Similarly, the role of human perception, and models thereof, has been greatly enhanced in the study and design of digital watermarking algorithms and systems. On the practical side, applications of watermarking are not yet abundant. The original euphoria on the role of digital watermarking in copy protection and copyright protection has not resulted in widespread use in practical systems. With hindsight, a number of reasons can be given for this lack of practical applications.

The goal is to have a broad coverage of the ?eld and related issues and subjects as the area evolves. Since the Internet and the computing infr- tructure has turned into a marketplace for content where information goods of various kinds are exchanged, this area is expected to grow and be part of the ongoing evolution of the information society.

This book focuses on intellectual property issues and rights in digital - dia, their connection with consumer protection, and the limits on freedom of contracts imposed by technological power. In particular, it analyzes, from a EU and U.S. comparative perspective, the complex issues concerning legal protection, technological measures and new business models associated with the use, distribution, and control of digital media. The book is based on a research project the author started in 2001 as V- iting Scholar at the University of California at Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law.

Decrypted Secrets : Methods and Maxims of Cryptology
Cryptology, for millennia a "secret science", is rapidly gaining in practical importance for the protection of communication channels, databases, and software. Beside its role in computerized information systems (public key systems), more and more applications within computer systems and networks are appearing, which also extend to access rights and source file protection. The first part of this book treats secret codes and their uses - cryptography. The second part deals with the process of covertly decrypting a secret code - cryptanaly-sis - where in particular advice on assessing methods is given. The book presupposes only elementary mathematical knowledge.

Cybersecurity in Poland : Legal Aspects
This book explores the legal aspects of cybersecurity in Poland. The authors are not limited to the framework created by the NCSA (National Cybersecurity System Act – this act was the first attempt to create a legal regulation of cybersecurity and, in addition, has implemented the provisions of the NIS Directive) but may discuss a number of other issues. Cultural representations of gender vulnerability and resistance : A Mediterranean approach to the Anglosphere
This book considers the cultural representation of gender violence, vulnerability and resistance with a focus on the transnational dimension of our contemporary visual and literary cultures in English. Contributors address concepts such as vulnerability, resilience, precarity and resistance in the Anglophone world through an analysis of memoirs, films, TV series, and crime and literary fiction across India, Ireland, Canada, Australia, the US, and the UK. Chapters explore literary and media displays of precarious conditions to examine whether these are exacerbated when intersecting with gender and ethnic identities, thus resulting in structural forms of vulnerability that generate and justify oppression, as well as forms of individual or collective resistance and/or resilience. Substantial insights are drawn from Animal Studies, Critical Race Studies, Human Rights Studies, Post-Humanism and Postcolonialism.
Cultural heritage and human rights
The volume addresses a deeply political aspect of heritage preservation and management as it relates to human rights. Social and community advocates assert that heritage is necessary for the articulation and preservation of cultural identity. The display of heritage monuments and performance can be a strategy for asserting minority identity in the face of majority pressure – as well as a tool for resistance and the expression of difference.
