This book explores the role of the ILO (International Labour Organization) in building global social governance from multiple and mutually complementary perspectives. It explores the impact of this UN´s oldest agency, founded in 1919, on the transforming world of work in a global setting, providing insights into the unique history and functions of the ILO as an organization and the evolution of workers’ rights through international labour standards stemming from its regulatory mechanism.

Interest Rate Models: an Infinite Dimensional Stochastic Analysis Perspective studies the mathematical issues that arise in modeling the interest rate term structure. These issues are approached by casting the interest rate models as stochastic evolution equations in infinite dimensions. The book is comprised of three parts. Part I is a crash course on interest rates, including a statistical analysis of the data and an introduction to some popular interest rate models. Part II is a self-contained introduction to infinite dimensional stochastic analysis, including SDE in Hilbert spaces and Malliavin calculus. Part III presents some recent results in interest rate theory, including finite dimensional realizations of HJM models, generalized bond portfolios, and the ergodicity of HJM models.

The ICIC 2006 to be held in Kunming, Yunnan, China, 16-19 August 2006 is the second International Conference on Intelligent Computing, which is built upon the success of ICIC 2005 held in Hefei, China, 2005. This year, the conference mainly concentrates on the theories & methodologies as well as the emerging applications of intelligent computing. It intends to unify the contemporary intelligent computing techniques within an integral framework that highlights the trends in advanced computational intelligence and bridges the theoretical research with the applications. In particular, the bio-inspired computing emerges as a key role in pursuing for novel technology in recently years. The resulting techniques vitalize the life science engineering and daily life applications. Integral Foam Molding of Light Metals : Technology, Foam Physics and Foam Simulation
This book shows in three parts the technology, the fundamentals and the simulation models for the Integral Foam Molding of Light Metals Part I: “Technology” shows for the first time that foaming of metals is possible by applying molding techniques very similar to polymer integral foam molding. Part II: “Physics” is devoted to the physics of foaming with special emphasis on the very short time scale which is characteristic for integral foam molding. Part III: “Numerical Simulation” presents a new lattice Boltzmann approach for the treatment of free surfaces is developed and applied on foam evolution problems. For the first time, the numerical simulation of foam evolution starting from nucleation until decay is accessible.
Integrable Hamiltonian Hierarchies : Spectral and Geometric Methods
This book presents a detailed derivation of the spectral properties of the Recursion Operators allowing one to derive all the fundamental properties of the soliton equations and to study their Hamiltonian hierarchies. Thus it is demonstrated that the inverse scattering method for solving soliton equations is a nonlinear generalization of the Fourier transform. The book brings together the spectral and the geometric approaches and as such will be useful to a wide readership: from researchers in the field of nonlinear completely integrable evolution equations to graduate and post-graduate students.

The authors of this book advise the economies of the European Union to become more entrepreneurial in promoting innovation and economic growth. The authors propose a reform strategy with respect to several aspects to achieve this goal. Starting with the rule of law and the protection of property rights; the tax system; the authors deal with regulations governing savings, capital and finance, and the organization of labor markets and social insurance systems. Framework strategies related to the regulations governing goods and service markets, bankruptcy and insolvency are also put forward. Traditionally, there are topics discussed in three main aspects. All of them must be considered in a united manner in order to investigate and understand the emergence and evolution of communities in the Internet: knowledge about networking, content and text processing as well as theory. The goal of the I2CS workshop is to bring researchers from both industry and academic fields together to discuss current progress and future developments in these areas and to eliminate the gap between theory and application. At this point, we want to express immense gratitude to all the authors of the submitted papers and to the members of the international Program Committee for their contribution to the success of the event and a program of high quality. In a peer-to-peer review process, 17 papers were selected out of 27 submissions.

This volume includes revised versions of papers presented at the workshop. The workshop was structured so as to allow adequate time for discussion and interaction, to exchange ideas and reflect on the motivations, scientific grounds and practical consequences of the concepts presented. Many of the ideas are truly “radical”, and so authors were given time to revise their papers to reflect further thoughts on the ideas presented and to reflect feedback received at the workshop. We are grateful to Jeff Kephart for a very interesting keynote speech describing IBM’s current and future work in this field, which fit very well with the aims and scope of the workshop.
Innovations Towards Sustainability : Conditions and Consequences
The volume contains eight articles together with comments by twenty authors and discussants on the topic of innovations and sustainability. It provides a competently written, balanced and differentiated state-of-the-art insight into the relation between innovations and sustainability from the perspective of evolutionary economics. The scope of the contributions encompasses the technological, social, organizational, and political dimensions of the topic. Each article is discussed by a competently written commentary providing a critical evaluation and relating it to the relevant literature. Particular interest lies on the issues of steering opportunities and path formation capabilities by decentralized agents, or governmental institutions from the viewpoint of evolutionary economics.
