Proposed model to measure firm’s narrative disclosures and its impact on financial performance : An applied study at Damascus Securities Exchange

Presents an in-depth analysis of narrative disclosures in financial reporting and their effect on financial performance, with a focused application on all 25 companies listed at Damascus Securities Exchange for the period 2017-2021. The objective is to develop a comprehensive model for measuring the scope and quality of narrative disclosures (NDs), and to empirically test their impact on key financial performance indicators, namely return on assets (ROA) and return on equity (ROE). The results indicate a significant positive impact for narrative disclosures on financial performance’ two indicators (ROA and ROE) emphasizing their role in reducing information asymmetry, increasing investor confidence, and enhancing market efficiency.

Property protection register

The aim of our project is to prevent the loss of items whether they have a monetary or an emotional value to their owner by making use of blockchains to ensure the data stays safe. The project features an app that allows users to create an account that contains their contact information and other relevant data and they can update it at any given time. Upon creating the account, users are able to list their items, information about the items include: photos, names, descriptions, types, color and optionally receipt numbers, prices or storage space. Users are also able to remove items and update information on previously listed items in order to report any damage.

Pronunciation Instruction in English for Academic Purposes : An Investigation of Attitudes, Beliefs and Practices

A mixed methods approach, including direct observation and semi-structured interviews, is employed to address the area of enquiry. Results show a lack of clarity of course goals. Although there is a firm emphasis on suprasegmental instruction, in semi-structured interviews, teachers report a lack of clear course goals and guidance. Assessment and practice do not always adhere to a goal of intelligibility, and support for teachers, in terms of the materials and how they might be exploited seems limited.

Progress in Ultrafast Intense Laser Science III

The PUILS series presents Progress in Ultrafast Intense Laser Science, a newly emerging interdisciplinary research field spanning atomic and molecular physics, molecular science, and optical science. PUILS has been stimulated by the recent development of ultrafast laser technologies. Each volume contains approximately 15 chapters, authored by researchers at the forefront. Each chapter opens with an overview of the topics to be discussed, so that researchers, who are not experts in the specific topics, as well as graduate students can grasp the importance and attractions of this sub-field of research, and these are followed by reports of cutting-edge discoveries. This third volume covers a diverse range of disciplines, focusing on such topics as strong field ionization of atoms, ionization and fragmentation of molecules and clusters, generation of high-order harmonics and attosecond pulses, filamentation and laser plasma interaction, and the development of ultrashort and ultrahigh-intensity light sources.

Progress in the Chemistry of Organic Natural Products 112

The first chapter describes the oldest method of communication between living systems in Nature, the chemical language. Plants, due to their lack of mobility, have developed the most sophisticated way of chemical communication. The second chapter is focused on the natural products obtained from Hypericum L., a genus of the family Hypericaceae within the dicotyledones. Hypericum has been valued for its important biological and chemical properties and its use in the treatment of depression and as an antibacterial has been well documented in primary literature and ethnobotanical reports. The present contribution gives a comprehensive summary of the chemical constituents and biological effects of this genus. The third chapter addresses microtubule stabilizers, which are a mainstay in the treatment of many solid cancers and are often used in combination with molecularly targeted anticancer agents and immunotherapeutics.

Progress in the Chemistry of Organic Natural Products 109

This volume comprises three reviews. The first describes isolation, structure determination, syntheses, and biochemistry of the low molecular weight compounds of the secretion of exocrine glands of termies with emphasis to pheromones and defensive compounds. The second review describes recent studies on isolation and structure elucidation of bioactive compounds involved in the life cycle and determination of the molecular mechanisms of the developmental events observed in higher plants. The third contribution reports on the current body of knowledge of African propolis, with a particular emphasis on its chemistry and biological activity.

Progress in the Chemistry of Organic Natural Products 108

It summarizes current trends in research on medicinal plants in Mexico with emphasis on work carried out at the authors' laboratories. The most relevant phytochemical and pharmacological profiles of a selected group of plants used widely for treating major national health problems are described. It is also provides a detailed survey of the so far reported literature data on the capacities of selected oxyprenylated phenylpropanoids and polyketides to trigger receptors, enzymes, and other types of cellular factors for which they exhibit a high degree of affinity and therefore evoke specifice responses. It discusses aspects of endophytic actinobacterial biology and chemistry, including biosynthesis and total synthesis of secondary metabolites produced in culture. It also presents perspectives fo the future of microbial biodiscovery, with emphasis on the seondary metabolism of endophytic actinobacteria.

Progress in the Chemistry of Organic Natural Products 107

It describes examples of very promising compounds discovered from plants acquired from Africa, Southeast Asia, the Americas, and the Caribbean region with potential anticancer activity. These include plant secondary metabolites of the diphyllin lignan, penta[b]benzofuran, triterpenoid, and tropane alkaloid types. The reported pharmacological activities of the new and known alkaloids showed a greater bias towards central nervous system and related activities. Other prominent activities reported were antifeedant or insecticidal, cytotoxicity/antitumor/anticancer/estrogenic, antiprotozoal, antiinflammatory, antioxidant, antifungal and antiviral activities.

Product-Focused Software Process Improvement ; 7th International Conference, PROFES 2006, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, June 12-14, 2006, Proceedings

Brought together researchers and industrial practitioners for reporting new research results and exchanging experiences and findings in the area of process and product improvement. The focus of the conference was on understanding, evaluating, controlling, and improving the relationship between process improvement activities (such as the deployment of innovative defect detection processes) and their effects on products (such as improved product reliability and safety). Consequently, major topics of the conference included the evaluation of existing software process improvement (SPI) approaches in different contexts, the presentation of new or modified SPI approaches, and the relation between SPI and new development techniques or emerging application domains. The need for SPI is being widely recognized.

Product Focused Software Process Improvement ; 6th International Conference, PROFES 2005, Oulu, Finland, June 13-18, 2005, Proceedings

Addresses both the solutions found in practice and the relevant research results from academia. This is reflected in the 42 full papers, which are – as in the years before – a well-balanced mix of academic papers as well as industrial experience reports. The business of developing new applications like mobile and Internet services or enhancing the functionality of a variety of products using embedded software is rapidly growing, maturing and meeting the harsh business realities. The accepted papers focusing on wireless and the Internet are grouped into a special “mobile and wireless” session. We wish to thank VTT Electronics, the University of Oulu including Infotech, and Fraunhofer IESE for supporting the conference. We are also grateful to the authors for high-quality papers, the Program Committee for their hard work in reviewing the papers, the Organizing Committee for making the event possible, and all the numerous supporters who helped in organizing this conference.
