High-Linearity CMOS RF Front-End Circuits
High-Linearity CMOS RF Front-End Circuits presents some unique techniques to enhance the linearity of both the receiver and transmitter. For example, using harmonic cancellation techniques, the linearity of the receiver front-end can be increased by few tens of dB with only minimal impact on the other circuit parameters. High Resolution Infrared Spectroscopy in Astronomy ; Proceedings of an ESO Workshop Held at Garching, Germany, 18-21 November 2003
Two specialized new instruments for ESO's VLT, VISIR and CRIRES, spawned the idea for this workshop. CRIRES is a dedicated very high resolution infrared spectrograph; VISIR features a high resolution spectroscopic mode. Together, the instruments combine the sensitivity of an 8m-telescope with the now well-established reliability of VLT-facility instruments. High resolution here means that lines in cool stellar atmospheres and HII-regions can be resolved. The astrophysical topics discussed in this rather specialized workshop range from the inner solar system to active galactic nuclei. There are many possibilities for new discoveries with these instruments, but the unique capability, which becomes available through high-resolution infrared spectroscopy, is the observation of molecular rotational-vibrational transitions in many astrophysical environments. Particularly interesting and surprising in this context, many papers on modeling and laboratory spectroscopy at the workshop appear to indicate that astronomical observations are lagging a bit behind in this field. The papers are an interesting mix of reports from existing high resolution facilities, reports on modeling efforts of synthetic spectra and reports on laboratory spectra. In this sense, a fruitful exchange between molecular physics and astronomy was again accomplished and is documented in this volume.
Heterogeneity in statistical genetics : How to assess, address, and account for mixtures in association studies
Heterogeneity, or mixtures, are ubiquitous in genetics. Even for data as simple as mono-genic diseases, populations are a mixture of affected and unaffected individuals. Still, most statistical genetic association analyses, designed to map genes for diseases and other genetic traits, ignore this phenomenon.In this book, we document methods that incorporate heterogeneity into the design and analysis of genetic and genomic association data. Among the key qualities of our developed statistics is that they include mixture parameters as part of the statistic, a unique component for tests of association. A critical feature of this work is the inclusion of at least one heterogeneity parameter when performing statistical power and sample size calculations for tests of genetic association.
Hepatitis Delta Virus ; Vol. 307
Since its discovery nearly 30 years ago, hepatitis delta virus (HDV) has continued to surprise and fascinate. At 1,680 nucleotides the HDV genome is the smallest known to infect man. It is unique among animal viruses, the closest known relatives being plant viroids. To compensate for its limited protein coding capacity, HDV relies heavily on host functions and on structural features of its circular RNA genome. HDV infection depends on hepatitis B virus as a helper, and increases the severity of liver disease caused by HBV alone. There is currently neither an effective HDV vaccine nor a generally accepted useful therapy for HDV infection. This volume encompasses recent developments in HDV research, from molecular virology to genetics to experimental investigation of new therapeutic and vaccine candidates.
Healthy Longevity in China : Demographic, Socioeconomic, and Psychological Dimensions

Harnessing the Power of the Criminal Corpse
This book is the culmination of many years of research on what happened to the bodies of executed criminals in the past. Focusing on the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, it looks at the consequences of the 1752 Murder Act. These are the conference proceedings of the 4th Haifa Verifcation Conference, held October 27–30, 2008 in Haifa, Israel. This international conference is a unique venue that brings together leading researchers and practitioners of both formal and dynamic verifcation, for both hardware and software systems. This year’s conference extended the successes of the previous years, with a largejumpinthenumberofsubmitted papers. with many more high-quality papers than we had room to accept. Submissions came from 19 di?erent countries, re?ecting the growing international visibility of the conference. Of the 49 submissions, 43 were regular papers, 2 of which were later withdrawn, and 6 were tool papers. After a rigorous review process.
Hardware and software : Verification and testing ; 1st International Haifa Verification Conference, Haifa, Israel, November 13-16, 2005, Revised Selected Papers
The First Haifa Verification Conference was held at the IBM Haifa Research Lab and at the Haifa University in Israel from November 13 to16, 2005. The conference incorporated three different workshops that took place separately in previous years. The IBM Verification Workshop is now its sixth year, the IBM Software Testing Workshop is now in its fourth year, and the PADTAD Workshop on testing and debugging multi-threaded and parallel software was held for the third time. The Verification Conference was a three-day, single-track conference followed by a one-day tutorial on the testing and review of multi-threaded code. The conference presented a unique combination of fields that brought together the hardware and software testing communities. Merging the different communities under a single roof gave the conference a distinctive flavor and provided the participants with added benefits. While the applications in these separate fields are different, the techniques used are often very similar. By offering lectures in these disparate but related disciplines, the conference engendered an environment of collaboration and discovery.
