Particle Image Velocimetry : New Developments and Recent Applications
Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) is a non-intrusive optical measurement technique which allows capturing several thousand velocity vectors within large flow fields instantaneously. Today, the PIV technique has spread widely and differentiated into many distinct applications, from micro flows over combustion to supersonic flows for both industrial needs and research. Over the past decade the measurement technique and the hard- and software have been improved continuously so that PIV has become a reliable and accurate method for "real life" investigations. Nevertheless there is still an ongoing process of improvements and extensions of the PIV technique towards 3D, time resolution, higher accuracy, measurements under harsh conditions and micro- and macroscales. This book gives a synopsis of the main results achieved during the EC-funded network PivNet 2 as well as a survey of the state-of-the-art of scientific research using PIV techniques in different fields of application.
Particle Image Velocimetry : A Practical Guide
Intends to provide comprehensive information on the PIV technique that in the past decade has gained significant popularity throughout engineering and scientific fields involving fluid mechanics. Relevant theoretical background information directly support the practical aspects associated with the planning, performance and understanding of experiments employing the PIV technique. The second edition includes extensive revisions taking into account significant progress on the technique as well as the continuously broadening range of possible applications which are illustrated by a multitude of examples. Among the new topics covered are high-speed imaging, three-component methods, advanced evaluation and post-processing techniques as well as microscopic PIV, the latter made possible by extending the group of authors by an internationally recognized expert.

Organometallic Oxidation Catalysis
Eighty per cent of all compounds produced in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries require at least one essential catalytic step during their synthesis. At the same time the use of hydrocarbons as a feed-stock for commodity and fine chemicals typically requires an oxidation step, which is usually mediated by a transition metal compound. Consequently oxidation catalysis is a major research field in chemistry, both in academia and in industry. In many such processes, species with metal-carbon bonds are formed as key intermediates, and these processes represent the primary focus of this volume. An important aspect covered by some of the expert contributors is the use of organic ligands - and thus organometallic complex metal fragments - to achieve efficient oxidation catalysis.
Oral fibroma: diagnosis, histology and management, a literature review and case series treated with laser and surgery
Aims to review the existing literature on oral fibromas, focusing on their causes, prevalence, and treatment options. It also highlights the potential advantages of diode laser surgery compared to traditional scalpel surgery in terms of pain management, bleeding control, healing time, and infection control. A case comparison of two patients – one treated with a scalpel and another with a diode laser – will be presented to show these potential benefits. In conclusion, diode laser surgery was found to be more effective and less invasive than scalpel surgery in managing fibrous hyperplasia.

It took nearly three years from the first ideas to the final version, now in your hands. In 1988 we started work on the frst German edition of our book, which appeared in 1992. Our aim was to give students a textbook that contained the basic concepts and ideas behind most numerical methods for partial di?er- tial equations. The success of this frst edition and the second edition in 1994 encouraged us, ten years later, to write an almost completely new version, taking into account comments from colleagues and students and drawing on the enormous progress made in the numerical analysis of partial di?erential equations in recent times. The present English version slightly improves the third German edition of 2005: we have corrected some minor errors and added additional material and references.

New Political Economy of Exchange Rate Policies and the Enlargement of the Eurozone
This work examines the political economy of exchange-rate policies in the context of the eastward enlargement of the eurozone. The analysis shows that prospective members of the EMU are likely to pass on some of the incurred Maastricht costs of convergence to the current EMU-members. The transmission mechanism is an altered exchange-rate policy that is carried out utilizing a "threaten-thy-neighbour"-strategy. The nature of the arising conflict between current and prospective EMU-members originates from both parties' admitted inclination to complete the enlargement process, complicated by their disinclination to bear the costs. The ensuing moral-hazard behaviour of the CEECs proves to be one of brinkmanship.
