Perturbations of Positive Semigroups with Applications

Perturbations of Positive Semigroups with Applications is a self-contained introduction to semigroup theory with emphasis on positive semigroups on Banach lattices and perturbation techniques. The first part of the book, which should be regarded as an extended reference section, presents a survey of the results from functional analysis, the theory of positive operators and the theory of semigroups that are needed for the second, applied part of the book; worked examples are provided to help absorb the theoretical material. The second part then deals with the application of the developed theory to a variety of problems ranging from the classical birth-and-death type problems of population dynamics, through fragmentation models in both conservative and mass loss regimes, to kinetic models.

Perspectives on Public Policy in Societal-Environmental Crises: What the Future Needs from History

Presents the results of industry scenario modelling. These chapters cover twelve industry and service sectors as well as transportation and buildings. The specific energy demand and specific emissions are presented based on the emission accounting concept of “Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3” emission pathways. This methodology has been developed to measure the climate and sustainability index for companies, and this research project expands the methodology to apply it to entire industry sectors. The results presented here are the first overall industry assessments under Scope 1, 2 and 3 from 2020 through 2050. The base for the energy pathways is the scenarios scenarios published in the previous volume. The nonenergy GHG emission scenarios, broken down to agriculture & forestry and industry, are detailed and include all major greenhouse gases and aerosols. The final section of the book presents the main conclusions of the industry pathway development work and recommendations for the finance industry and policy makers. Additionally, future qualitative future investment requirements in specific technologies and measures are presented.

Perspectives in Modern Project Scheduling

Operations Research began with the mathematical scheduling of a massive project—logistically supplying Europe with military equipment and goods during the WWII. Today project scheduling research continues growing in a variety of its theoretical models, in its magnitude and application. As the world becomes more interrelated and complex, the wider its research is applied to an increasing number of project scheduling problems. Project Scheduling: Surveying the State-of-the-Art surveys the current state-of-the-art in operations research with chapters written by the respective leading experts on each topic. It covers the range of the key models in the field, including deterministic, probabilistic, single- and multi-mode, single- and multi-objective, and a general model on discrete-continuous resources. Recent solution algorithms are systematical examined. The book summarize sthe current developments and theoretical achievements in the field, including project uncertainty and grid resource management.

Perspectives in Conceptual Modeling ; ER 2005 Workshop AOIS, BP-UML, CoMoGIS, eCOMO, and QoIS, Klagenfurt, Austria, October 24-28, 2005, Proceedings

The objective of these workshops was to extend the spectrum of the main conference by giving participants an opportunity to present and discuss emerging hot topics related to conceptual modeling and to add new perspectives to this key mechanism for understanding and representing organizations, including the new “virtual” e-environments and the information systems that support them. To meet this objective, we selected 5 workshops: – AOIS 2005: 7th International Bi-conference Workshop on Agent-Oriented Information Systems – BP-UML 2005: 1st International Workshop on Best Practices of UML – CoMoGIS 2005: 2nd International Workshop on Conceptual Modeling for Geographic Information Systems – eCOMO 2005: 6th International Workshop on Conceptual Modeling - proaches for E-business – QoIS 2005: 1st International Workshop on Quality of Information Systems These 5 workshops attracted 18, 27, 31, 9, and 17 papers, respectively. Following the ER workshop philosophy, program committees selected contributions on the basis of strong peer reviews in order to maintain a high standard for accepted papers.

Periodontal disease : Diagnosis, management options and clinical features

Periodontal disease (PD), an inflammatory disease of tooth supporting tissues that leads to progressive loss of periodontal ligament and bone, with pocket formation and / or recession of the gums, is widespread among the world adult population and a serious public health issue. In this book, Chapter One reviews the literature about the use of probiotics in periodontal disease, including in vitro, in vivo and clinical studies, in order to improve the understanding of probiotics’ role in periodontal disease and discusses the effectiveness of their use as a therapy for periodontitis. Chapter Two studies the model of periodontitis induction by ligature and presents a protocol for performing it in rats and mice, based on the experience of the authors’ research group, to guide researchers who wish to develop the model. Chapter Three focuses on nutritional and systemic risk factors for periodontitis, focusing on modifiable common risk factors that also impact cardiometabolic disease, which can be targeted through oral and medical health professionals for improving periodontal and cardiometabolic health. Chapter Four discusses the main manifestations of gingivitis, chronic periodontitis, aggressive periodontitis, and periodontal disease resulting from systemic diseases.

Percutaneous Collagen Induction With Microneedling : A Step-by-Step Clinical Guide

Percutaneous Collagen Induction with Microneedling is a minimally invasive technique widely used to treat numerous dermatologic conditions such as facial and body scars, melasma, wrinkles, skin laxity, stretch marks, alopecies, vitiligo and scleroderma. Microneedling can also be used to optimize transdermal drug delivery for many substances. This technique uses modern microneedling devices containing multiple fine needles, typically 0.5 to 2.5 mm in length, which are mounted on a barrel and rolled onto the skin to create numerous perforations into the stratum corneum and the papillary dermis. These micro-wounds initiate the release of growth factors, triggering collagen and elastin formation, which results in dermal remodeling and skin resurfacing. This book provides a step-by-step approach to microneedling, based on the authors’ more than ten years of experience with the technique.
