Security in computer and information sciences ; 1st International ISCIS Security Workshop 2018, Euro-CYBERSEC 2018, London, UK, February 26-27, 2018, Revised Selected Papers

This open access book constitutes the thoroughly refereed proceedings of the First International ISCIS Security Workshop 2018, Euro-CYBERSEC 2018, held in London, UK, in February 2018.The 12 full papers presented together with an overview paper were carefully reviewed and selected from 31 submissions. Security of distributed interconnected systems, software systems, and the Internet of Things has become a crucial aspect of the performance of computer systems. The papers deal with these issues, with a specific focus on societally critical systems such as health informatics systems, the Internet of Things, energy systems, digital cities, digital economy, mobile networks, and the underlying physical and network infrastructures.

Sectional Anatomy : PET/CT and SPECT/CT

Combined positron emission tomography (PET) or single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) with computed tomography (CT) has developed into the faste- growing imaging modality largely because combined PET or SPECT with CT data acquisition is highly synergistic in diagnosis and therapeutic evaluation. All currently available data indicate that integrated PET or SPECT/CT is more sensitive and specific than either of its constituent imaging methods alone and probably more so than images obtained from separate systems viewed side by side. The PET or SPECT/CT provides precise localization of the lesions, thereby increasing diagnostic specificity particularly by reducing false-positive findings. The other advantage of adding CT is that the transmission data obtained with the CT component is useful for attenuation correction of the emission data. This makes PET/CT 25%–30% faster than PET alone with standard attenuation–correction method, leading to higher patient throughput and a more comfortable examination, which typically lasts 30 minutes or less. With hybrid imaging, unique physiologic information bene?ts from a precise to- graphic localization. Simultaneous evaluation of metabolic and anatomic information about normal and disease processes is needed to answer complex clinical questions and also raise the level of confidence of scan interpretation. It is always difficult to consider three dimensions in the mind’s eye and view the relationship of the viscera and fascial planes in transverse and vertical sections of the body’s structure. The introduction of modern imaging techniques has enormously expanded the already considerable importance of sectional anatomy.

Recombination and Meiosis : Crossing-Over and Disjunction

Once per life cycle, mitotic nuclear divisions are replaced by meiosis I and II – reducing chromosome number from the diploid level to a haploid genome, reshuffling the homologous chromosomes by their centromeres, and recombining chromosome arms by crossing-over. In animals, including humans, all this happens during the germ cell formation of eggs and sperm. These key events are accompanied by ancillary provisions at the level of chromosome core organization, sister chromatid cohesion, and differential centromere connectivity. Great progress has been made in recent years to further our understanding of these mechanisms. The current book addresses these processes and mechanisms in multicellular eukaryotes, such as Drosophila, Arabidopsis, mice and humans. The pioneering model systems of yeasts, as well as evolutionary aspects, will be addressed in a forthcoming volume.
