Sex Work, Health, and Human Rights : Global Inequities, Challenges, and Opportunities for Action
This book provides a comprehensive overview of the health inequities and human rights issues faced by sex workers globally across diverse contexts, and outlines evidence-based strategies and best practices. Sex workers face severe health and social inequities, largely as the result of structural factors including punitive and criminalized legal environments, stigma, and social and economic exclusion and marginalization. Although previous work has largely emphasized an elevated burden and gaps in HIV and sexually transmitted infection (STI) services in sex work, less attention has been paid to the broader health and human rights concerns faced by sex workers. This contributed volume addresses this gap.
Sex determination using some metric and non-metric dental features in arab international university community
Canines exhibit the highest degree of sexual dimorphism among dental structures, making them particularly valuable for sex estimation in forensic and legal studies. Analyzing canine dimensions and morphological characteristics is crucial in forensic medicine and anthropology, as it can provide valuable insights into identity determination. This study aims to assess sexual dimorphism in the size dimensions of maxillary and mandibular canines, as well as the shape of the additional distal Ridge of mandibular canines, in a Syrian sample of students from the Arab International University.
Services Science : Fundamentals, Challenges and Future Developments
The service sector has dominated advanced economies for years. In many countries, it accounts for more than 70% of gross domestic product, and approximately the same percentage of all employees work in this sector. To reflect the economic relevance of the service sector, services science must be established as an academic discipline. But the path in pursuit of this goal is riddled with challenges, especially in the fields of services research, service-oriented education and service-related collaborations. This book includes detailed articles and short statements on each field, written by academics and experts. They explain which challenges need to be met by research and academic training in the services community of the 21st century. The contributions contained in this book reflect the content of presentations and statements given at the first German Services Science Conference.
Service Franchising : A Global Perspective
The book advances the body of knowledge on international franchising for the academic community. In addition to being a breakthrough text for researchers in business and economics the book also contains guidance for franchisors and franchisees in their efforts to achieve success in the global marketplace.
Sensitivity Analysis : Matrix Methods in Demography and Ecology
This book shows how to use sensitivity analysis in demography. It presents new methods for individuals, cohorts, and populations, with applications to humans, other animals, and plants. The analyses are based on matrix formulations of age-classified, stage-classified, and multistate population models. Methods are presented for linear and nonlinear, deterministic and stochastic, and time-invariant and time-varying cases. Readers will discover results on the sensitivity of statistics of longevity, life disparity, occupancy times, the net reproductive rate, and statistics of Markov chain models in demography. They will also see applications of sensitivity analysis to population growth rates, stable population structures, reproductive value, equilibria under immigration and nonlinearity, and population cycles. Individual stochasticity is a theme throughout, with a focus that goes beyond expected values to include variances in demographic outcomes.
Semiconductor Optics ; 3rd ed.
The second edition, which appeared in 2005 and contains substantial - dates and amendments compared to the first one and its corrected reprints, was again favourably received by the students and the scientific community worldwide. They contained only rather limited updates of the material and corrections. In the meantime scienti?c progress brought a lot of new results, which necessitate a new, seriously revised edition. This progress includes bulk se- conductors, but especially structures of reduced dimensionality. These new trends and results are partly included in existing chapters e.g. for phonons or for time-resolved spectroscopy, partly new chapters have been introduced like the ones on cavity polaritons and photonic structures.
Semiconductor Optics ; 2nd ed.
The book on Semiconductor Optics has been favourably received by the s- dents and the scientific community worldwide. After the ?rst edition, which appeared in 1995 several reprints became necessary starting from 1997, one of them for the Chinese market. They contained only rather limited updates of the material and corrections. In the meantime scientific progress brought a lot of new results, which necessitate a new, seriously revised edition. This progress includes bulk se- conductors, but especially structures of reduced dimensionality. These new trends and results are partly included in existing chapters e. g. for phonons or for time-resolved spectroscopy, partly new chapters have been introduced like the ones on cavity polaritons and photonic structures. We based the description of the optical properties againon the simple and intuitively clear model ofthe Lorentz-oscillatorsandthe concept of polaritons asthequantaoflightinmatter. But since there is presently at rend to describe at least the optical properties of the electronic system of semiconductors by the optical or the semiconductor Bloch equations, a chapter has been added on this topic written by Prof. Dr. R. v. Baltz (Karlsruhe) to familiarize the reader with this concept, too, which needs a bit more quantum mechanics compared the approach used here.
Self-Organized Nanoscale Materials
This book comprises an overview of a wide variety of different approaches towards the synthesis of nanoscale materials and the hierarchical assemblies produced from them under the common theme of self-organization mechanisms via chemical and bio-inspired methods. The book covers many of the exciting and recent developments from basic research to applications in the field of self-assembly of nanostructures that are of general interest to a broad community of established and postgraduate researchers in physics, chemistry, biology, engineering, and materials science.
Selective Sweep
Selective Sweep deals with the theory and practice of detection of recent adaptive evolution at the genomic level from the patterns of DNA polymorphism. Recent advances in genomic sequencing provide the background for analysis of polymorphic sites in large chromosomal regions or even in whole genome, thus providing the tool for effective identification of loci that are under strong pressure of positive selection. For this reason, the studies of selective sweep, which formerly were of interest mostly to evolutionists, have become widely recognized and appreciated by the large biological community involved in identification of the targets of selection during speciation, host/pathogen interactions, and resistance to chemical agents.
Selected Aspects of Cancer Progression : Metastasis, Apoptosis and Immune Response
The processes of tumor metastasis, apoptosis and anti-tumor immune response are among the most complex yet rapidly advancing fields in the area of cancer research. This monograph presents a comprehensive coverage of the recent advances in the various key concepts in these fundamental aspects of human cancer. It would be of particular interest to members of the cancer research community, especially those who are actively involved in the study of basic and translational aspects of human cancer.
Seeds for Diversity and Inclusion : Agroecology and Endogenous Development
This book will contribute to a more nuanced debate around seed system resilience that goes beyond the dominant dichotomous conceptualization of seed governance often characterized as traditional vs modern, subsistence vs commercial, or local vs global. While reflecting on the expanding oligopoly in the current seed system, the authors argue that such classifications limit our ability to critically reflect on and acknowledge the diverse approaches through which seed governance is practiced around the world, at various scales, creating a mosaic of dynamic complementarities and autonomies.
Security for Telecommunications Networks
Telecommunications networks are a critical component of the economic and social infrastructures in which we live. Each day, well over three billion people across the globe rely upon these systems, as their primary means of connecting to the world around them. It creates a starting place for new researchers in the field of secure telecommunications networks. This volume not only discusses emerging threats, along with system vulnerability, but also presents the open questions posited by network evolution and defense mechanisms. This is one of the first books to discuss securing current and next generation telecommunications networks by the security community.
