Analysis file of drug-induced lung injury : expert opinion for analysis of big data
Describes the pathologic conditions of drug-induced lung injuries, monitoring strategies, and guides on how to interpret the evidence. It also dives into particular drugs that caused the disorder, such as EGFR inhibitors, anti-EGFR antibodies, mTOR inhibitors, proteasome inhibitors, immune checkpoint inhibitors, neoangiogenesis inhibitors, and other molecular targeted drugs. It outlines the analysis and interpretation of the post-marketing survey on surveillance of each drug for inducing pulmonary lesions presenting diffuse haziness. The data and analysis from this survey are valuable since a guideline is yet to be established due to limited clinical evidence and cases. As new drugs are developed, establishing treatment and event management is crucial.
Analisi di Rasch e questionari di misura : Applicazioni in medicina e scienze sociali = Rasch analysis and measurement questionnaires: Applications in medicine and social sciences
Evaluation questionnaires are the most used tools nowadays in the field of medicine and the human sciences to evaluate variables such as disability, altruism or pain. However, clinicians are often unfamiliar with these tools. What do they really measure? How are the results to be interpreted? This book tries to answer these questions.
Anafilassi in pediatria = Anaphylaxis in pediatrics
Anaphylaxis is defined as an immediate systemic reaction due to the rapid IgE mediated release of potent mediators from tissue mast cells and peripheral blood basophils and represents a generalized clinical condition that includes skin, respiratory, cardiovascular and gastrointestinal signs and symptoms. It includes various clinical pictures, which derive from the association of symptoms such as urticaria, angioedema, vomiting, diarrhea, asthma, dyspnoea, edema of the glottis, hypotension, shock, etc., not always easy to identify, which however require a timely and correct diagnostic approach. .
Anaesthesia, pain, intensive care and emergency medicine A.P.I.C.E. ; Proceedings of the 21st Postgraduate Course in Critical Medicine: Venice-Mestre, Italy - November 10-13, 2006
Developing sectors in the Intensive Care field – and in Critical Care Medicine in general – require specific levels of competence having a same common denominator: an in-depth knowledge of human pathophysiology. Although this volume presents plenty of topics in constant evolution, as witnessed by the collection of chapters compiled by several researchers, this edition includes, in particular, fields in which decision-making at the patient’s bedside prevails over theoretical argumentation. In other words, the first and foremost message this edition wants to provide is for the reader to focus his/her attention on evidence-based medicine.
An introduction to medicinal chemistry
Providing an introduction to medicinal chemistry, this resource covers basic principles and background, and describes the general tactics and strategies involved in developing an effective drug
Alternative Splicing and Disease
Splicing of primary RNA transcript, i.e. removal of introns and joining of exons to produce mature mRNAs competent for translation into proteins, is a quasi-systematic step of gene expression in higher organisms. However, this process is not unequivocal but can follow alternate pathways. Alternative splicing of a given transcript can therefore yield several distinct mRNAs encoding as many different proteins. Its full biological significance has not been appreciated until it was recognized that alternative splicing is so general as to affect about 75% of all human genes. Therefore, alternative splicing not only vastly increases protein diversity but also offers numerous opportunities for aberrant splicing events with pathological consequences.
Algae and Cyanobacteria in Extreme Environments
ALGAE AND CYANOBACTRIA IN EXTREME ENVIRONMENTS is a unique collection of essays, contributed by leading scientists from around the world, devoted to algae – and some related microbes – observed in unexpected harsh habits, which it seems are an oasis or Garden of Eden for these organisms. This timely book on Extremophilic alga, including its especially impressive micrographs, may provide clues about the edges of life on Earth and possibly elsewhere in the universe. This volume is a must for students of the field of biodiversity, as well as those in Phycology, ecology and general biological research.
Advances in Targeted Cancer Therapy
This volume is the first book to cover the general topic of targeted cancer therapy. It presents a range of targets such as tumor angiogenesis, cell cycle control and cell signalling, COX-2, apoptosis/cell survival, invasion and metastasis and approaches like kinase inhibitors, antisense, and antibody-based therapeutics. The emphasis is on preclinical development, including target validation, development of biomarkers, strategies for combination approaches, and development of resistance. The particular challenges involved in translating these data to clinical application are discussed.

The Advances section presents fields of neurosurgery and related areas in which important recent progress has been made. The Technical Standards section features detailed descriptions of standard procedures to assist young neurosurgeons in their post-graduate training. The contributions are written by experienced clinicians and are reviewed by all members of the Editorial Board.
Actualités en rééducation des maladies neuro-musculaires de ladulte = News in rehabilitation of neuro-muscular diseases in adults
Neuro-muscular diseases include congenital or acquired pathologies of the muscle and the peripheral nerve. This book covers all the care of the adult patient with such a condition.
Active Processes and Otoacoustic Emissions in Hearing
Sounds that are actually produced by healthy ears allow researchers and clinicians to study hearing and cochlear function noninvasively in both animals and humans. Active Processes and Otoacoustic Emissions in Hearing presents the first serious review of the biological basis of these otoacoustic emissions. Active processes, such as those in hair cells that produce emissions, represent a burgeoning and important area of sensory research. By providing a basis for understanding how and why otoacoustic emissions testing works through a basic understanding of general hearing processes, this volume will also interest clinicians, particularly otolaryngologists and audiologists.
About Life : Concepts in Modern Biology
This book uses modern biological knowledge to tackle the question: "What distinguishes living organisms from the non-living world?" In the first few chapters, the authors draw on recent advances in cell and molecular biology to develop an account of the "living state" that applies to all organisms, but only to organisms. Subsequent chapters use this account to explore questions about evolution, the origin of life and the possibility of extraterrestrial life. Towards the end of the book the authors consider human evolution, intelligence and the extent to which our species can be regarded as biologically unique. About Life is written as far as possible in non-technical language; all scientific terms are explained straightforwardly when they are introduced. It is aimed at the general, non-specialist reader, but the novel approach that it takes to general issues in biology will also interest students of the life sciences.
Abord clinique en urologie = Clinical approach in urology
Seduced by the idea of commenting on the clinical experience they have acquired during their career, the authors have deliberately approached their specialty by describing the symptoms that give the chapters their titles. They nevertheless described the differential diagnoses, the diseases involved and the treatments. After a chapter devoted to the examination of the patient, including the detours of the interrogation, back pain or scrotal pain are analyzed. The authors then turned to voiding disorders and their causes. The peculiarities of hematuria, depending on their level of origin, are described and commented on. The semiology of tumor masses is carefully detailed and, conversely, the problem of prostate cancer screening by PSA is dealt with in a separate chapter. Erectile dysfunction and penile diseases are the last chapters. In the line of the “Clinical approach” collection, this manual is easy to consult thanks to a detailed index, easy to understand because it is written in clear language and, moreover, well illustrated (21 diagrams and 2 tables). In this little book, the authors have approached urology from a perspective close to how patients feel.
Abord clinique du malade âgé = Clinic Approach for the Elderly Patient
The general practitioner and the specialists are brought to examine a growing number of elderly or very old patients. Until now, they have hardly been prepared for this very special clinical approach where each symptom can relate to several causes, where the diseases are almost always multiple, symptomatic, or ready to reveal themselves by a complication, where a diagnosis can be. hide another, where a history - key to the diagnosis - may have been forgotten or concealed.
Abord clinique des urgences traumatiques au cabinet du généraliste = Clinical approach to traumatic emergencies in the general practitioner's office
The general practitioner finds himself alone in the face of difficult and urgent situations. Her internship years taught her to work with the nursing team. At the patient's home, he must act alone with "the means at hand". To have known these difficulties, we conceived this work: it is intended to be a simple, effective and complete help. It sums up what we have learned from the “field”. It complies with scientific recommendations.
Abord clinique des malades de lalcool : En médecine générale = Clinical approach to patients with alcoholism : In general medicine

25 Years of P53 Research
Communication, awareness and access to information: Given the complexity of the field and the fact that data pertaining to each particular aspects of p53 biology or deregulation are scattered in many different publications, it is extremely difficult to access the full scale of relevant information of any specific p53-related topic. This book may help in this task by putting into perspective both general considerations on the p53 pathway and more specific information on various aspects of p53. In the longer term, however, open access to p53 complexity will require the development of knowledge bases accessible through the web and using simple navigation tools to guide users towards the specific information they need. Several efforts are currently being developed in that direction. They need to be strenghtened and better integrated within the rapidly growing galaxy of web-based information sources on molecular and individual variations in cancer. 2. Reference functional assays and structural analysis: Given the huge diversity of cellular and animal models for wild-type or mutant p53 functions, it will be important to set up standard, universally accepted assays to measure critical p53 protein functions.
