Immunogenetics: Methods and Protocols
Explores techniques for working in the field of immunogenetics, i.e. fundamental and translational research into the adaptive immune receptor repertoire. Many chapters are dedicated to lab protocols, bioinformatics, and immunoinformatics analysis of high-resolution immunome analysis, exemplified by numerous applications. Additionally, the newest technological variations on these protocols are discussed, including non-amplicon, single-cell, and cell-free strategies. Immunogenetics of Autoimmune Disease
Utoimmunity is the downstream outcome of a rather extensive and coordinated series of events that include loss of self-tolerance, peripheral lymphocyte Aactivation, disruption of the blood-systems barriers, cellular infiltration into the target organs and local inflammation. Cytokines, adhesion molecules, growth factors, antibodies, and other molecules induce and regulate critical cell functions that perpetuate inflammation, leading to tissue injury and clinical phenotype. The nature and intensity of this response as well as the physiological ability to restore homeostasis are to a large extent conditioned by the unique amino acid sequences that define allelic variants on each of the numerous participating mol ecules. Therefore, the coding genes in their germline configuration play a primary role in determining who is at risk for developing such disorders, how the disease progresses, and how someone responds to therapy. Although genetic components in these diseases are clearly present, the lack of obvious and homogeneous modes of transmission has slowed progress by prevent ing the full exploitation of classical genetic epidemiologic techniques. Furthermore, autoimmune diseases are characterized by modest disease risk heritability and m- tifaceted interactions with environmental influences. Yet, several recent discoveries have dramatically changed our ability to examine genetic variation as it relates to human disease. In addition to the development of large-scale laboratory methods and tools to efficiently recognize and catalog DNA diversity, over the past few years there has been real progress in the application of new analytical and data-manage ment approaches
Immune regulation and immunotherapy in autoimmune disease

Imaging of Orthopedic Sports Injuries ; 2nd ed.
This book, now in a revised and updated second edition, provides a review of imaging abnormalities in orthopedic sports injuries. The first part of the book includes background information on relevant basic science and general imaging principles in sports traumatology, while the second part discusses the topography of various sports injuries. Each chapter highlights the merits of different imaging techniques, focusing on a specific clinical problem. The third part then examines natural history and monitoring. Several new chapters have been added, including a chapter on postoperative joint imaging in the sports patient as well as image-guided interventions in sports injuries.
Imaging of Kidney Cancer
This is one of the first books to deal specifically with diagnostic imaging of the entire spectrum of kidney cancers. Both new and conventional imaging modalities are fully considered. In an introductory chapter, the histopathological classification of kidney cancers is presented and discussed. The following five chapters describe in great detail the abilities, advantages, and disadvantages of the various imaging modalities used in the diagnosis of kidney cancers and the assessment of disease extension. Subsequent chapters offer an exhaustive description of the radiological features of the different histological subtypes of kidney cancer, with radiological and histological illustrations and tables.

The dynamic interaction between world-renowned scientists from the usually disparate communities of pure mathematicians and applied sci- tists which occurred at our seven previous ASI’s continued at this meeting. The fusion of basic ideas in mathematics, radar, sonar, biology, and ch- istry with ongoing improvements in hardware and computation offers the promise of much more sophisticated and accurate detection and identi?cation capabilities than currently exist. Coupled with the dramatic rise in the need for surveillance in innumerable aspects of our daily lives, brought about by hostile acts deemed unimaginable only a few short years ago, the time is ripe for image processing scientists in these usually diverse ?elds to join together in a concerted effort to combat the new brands of terrorism. This ASI was one important initial step.

This book collects the Proceedings of the Workshop "Incontri di Fisica delle Alte Energie (IFAE) 2007, Napoli, 11-13 April 2007". This is the sixth edition of a series of meetings on fundamental research in particle physics and was attended by about 160 researchers. Presentations, both theoretical and experimental, addressed the status of Physics of the Standard Model and beyond, Flavour phyisc, Neutrino and Astroparticle physics, new technology in high energy physics. Special emphasis was given to the expectations of the forthcoming Large Hadron Collider, due in operation at the end of 2007.
