Constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Adaptive and Natural Computing Algorithms, ICANNGA 2007, held in Warsaw, Poland, in April 2007. The 178 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 474 submissions. The 94 papers of the first volume are organized in topical sections on evolutionary computation, genetic algorithms, particle swarm optimization, learning, optimization and games, fuzzy and rough systems, just as classification and clustering. The second volume contains 84 contributions related to neural networks, support vector machines, biomedical signal and image processing, biometrics, computer vision, as well as to control and robotics.

Adapting Proofs-as-Programs : The Curry--Howard Protocol
This book nuds new things to do with an old idea. The proofs-as-programs paradigm constitutes a set of approaches to developing programs from proofs in constructive logic. there is increasingly active research in applying constructive techniques to industrial-scale, complex software engineering problems. Actors and the Art of Performance: Under Exposure combines the author's two main biographical paths: her professional commitment to the fields of both theatre and philosophy. The art of acting on stage is analysed here not only from the theoretical perspective of a spectator, but also from the perspective of the actor. The author draws on her experience as both a theatre actor and a university professor whose teachings in the art of acting rely heavily on her own experience and also on her philosophical knowledge. The book is unique not only in terms of its content but also in terms of its style. Written in a multiplicity of voices, the text oscillates between philosophical reasoning and narrative forms of writing, including micro-narratives, fables, parables, and inter alia by Carroll, Hoffmann and Kleist. Hence the book claims that a trans-disciplinary dialogue between the art of acting and the art of philosophical thinking calls for an aesthetical research that questions and begins to seek alternatives to traditionally established and ingrained formats of philosophy.

Active Lighting and Its Application for Computer Vision : 40 Years of History of Active Lighting Techniques
Computer vision entails both passive and active illumination techniques. Whereas passive techniques observe the scene statically and analyse it as is, by contrast active techniques give the scene some actions and try to facilitate the analysis. In particular, active illumination techniques project specific light, for which the characteristics are known beforehand, to a target scene to enable stable and accurate analysis of the scene.
Action and Responsibility
What makes an event count as an action? Typical answers appeal to the way in which the event was produced: e.g., perhaps an arm movement is an action when caused by mental states (in particular ways), but not when caused in other ways. Andrew Sneddon argues that this type of answer, which he calls "productionism", is methodologically and substantially mistaken. In particular, productionist answers to this question tend to be either individualistic or foundationalist, or both, without explicit defence.

I have been involved in the treatment of chronic renal insuf? new and unexpected pathological conditions have also appeared as complications of long-term dialysis. One of these involves polycystic changes and their malignant transformation in diseased kidneys. Since I have studied these polycystic changes and their malignant transformation for many years, I decided to compile the results of my work in a book. Such conditions of diseased kidneys pose serious problems, particularly in Japan, where renal transplantation is performed very infrequently compared with other countries, and a large number of patients are managed by dialysis over a long period.

Telecommunication systems and human-machine interfaces start employing multiple microphones and loudspeakers in order to make conversations and interactions more lifelike, hence more efficient. This development gives rise to a variety of acoustic signal processing problems under multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) scenarios, encompassing distant speech acquisition, sound source localization and tracking, echo and noise control, source separation and speech dereverberation, and many others. The last decade has witnessed a growing interest in exploring these problems, but there has been little effort to develop a theory to have all these problems investigated in a unified framework. The industry sector pathways presented here are based on the latest global and regional 100% renewable energy and non-energy greenhouse gas Representative Concentration Pathways in order to keep climate change significantly under +1.5 C and thereby achieve the Paris Climate Agreement goals. Presents detailed pathways to achieve 100% renewable energy by 2050, globally and across ten geographical regions. Based on state-of-the-art scenario modelling, it provides the vital missing link between renewable energy targets and the measures needed to achieve them. Bringing together the latest research in climate science, renewable energy technology, employment and resource impacts, the book breaks new ground by covering all the elements essential to achieving the ambitious climate mitigation targets set out in the Paris Climate Agreement. For example, sectoral implementation pathways, with special emphasis on differences between developed and developing countries and regional conditions, provide tools to implement the scenarios globally and domestically. Non-energy greenhouse gas mitigation scenarios define a sustainable pathway for land-use change and the agricultural sector. Accessing Multilingual Information Repositories ; 6th Workshop of the Cross-Language Evaluation Forum, CLEF 2005, Vienna, Austria, 21-23 September, 2005, Revised Selected Papers
The sixth campaign of the Cross Language Evaluation Forum (CLEF) for European languages was held from January to September 2005. CLEF is by now an established international evaluation initiative and 74 groups from all over the world submitted results for one or more of the different evaluation tracks in 2005, compared with 54 groups in 2004. There were eight distinct evaluation tracks, designed to test the performance of a wide range of systems for multilingual information access. Full details regarding the design of the tracks, the methodologies used for evaluation, and the results obtained by the participants can be found in the different sections of these proceedings.

In that book we tried very hard not to simply list everything that we knew about the product. Instead we tried to act as intelligent filters, presenting only the essential information that you need to get started. Every screen shot has been retaken and every section has been re-checked to ensure, not only that it still works, but also that it is actually still relevant. We have re-written parts where the product has changed and also added some. For example, there is a new section on Object Dependencies and a whole new chapter about Data Access Pages - helping you to put your Access database onto an intranet.
Access to medicines and vaccines : Implementing flexibilities under intellectual property law
This book is the outcome of a Global Forum on Innovation, Intellectual Property and Access to Medicines held in December 2019 at the Max Plank Instititute in Munich, organised by the South Centre and the Max Plank Institute. The academics and experts from international organisations participating have contributed chapters to this book. The book is for policy makers (in Ministries of Health, Ministries of Trade, Ministries of Foreign Affairs, patent offices), but also relevant for academics (law, trade, public health), on the flexibilities available in the Agreement on Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) of the World Trade Organization to promote access to medicines.
