Surviving Globalization? : Perspectives for the German Economic Model

Society, and state Interspersed between these most commonly named elements are the following: First, the high political integrating force of the German Model after WWII was based on the adoption and transformation of corporatist political structures from National Socialist Germany. Liberal capitalism was (re)introduced under political competition between Christian Democrats and Social Democrats, who eventually found common ground in the politically mediated compromise between capital and labor: “This compromise was negotiated and institutionalized at a time when the communist wing of the workers movement and the authoritarian voices of German capital – for various reasons – were excluded from political participation

Surface and Interfacial Organometallic Chemistry and Catalysis

Heterogeneous catalysis has been essential to the development of efficient chemical processes for more than a century, and this field has been traditionally part of the solid state chemistry and surface science communities. The design of better catalysts has raised the following questions: "what is the structure of the active sites?" and "how to control their nature?" The necessary need to develop more sustainable chemical processes and the success of homogeneous catalysis relying on molecular organometallic chemistry has led the community of molecular chemists to investigate the preparation of single-site heterogeneous catalysts. The authors discuss the molecular design, the preparation, the characterisation and the catalytic applications of well-defined oxides and metal particles. The readers will acquire a molecular understanding of heterogeneous catalysis, which will help them develop a critical view and which will attract them to study this fascinating field.

Supply Chain Management and Advanced Planning : Concepts, Models, Software, and Case Studies ; 4th ed.

Supply Chain Management, Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP), and Advanced Planning Systems (APS) are important concepts in order to organize and optimize the flow of goods, materials, information and funds. This book, already in its fourth edition, gives a broad and up-to-date overview of the concepts underlying APS. Special emphasis is given to modeling supply chains and implementing APS successfully in industry. Understanding is enhanced by several case studies covering a wide range of industrial sectors. The fourth edition contains updated material, rewritten chapters and additional case studies.

Supply Chain Management and Advanced Planning : Concepts, Models, Software and Case Studies ; 3rd ed.

Supply Chain Management concerns organizational aspects of integrating, legally separated firms as well as coordinating material, and information flows within a production-distribution network, Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) systems being used for, transaction handling and order execution in most firms today have, been supplemented by Advanced Planning Systems (APS) for coordinating flows, exploiting bottlenecks and keeping due dates. This book provides insights regarding the concepts underlying APS. Special emphasis is given to modelling supply chains and implementing APS in industry successfully. Understanding is enhanced through the use of case studies as well as an introduction to the solution algorithms used.

Supply Chain Analysis : A Handbook on the Interaction of Information, System and Optimization

Carefully developed work focused on the analysis of supply chain interaction issues in emerging markets and industry sectors. It is a leading-edge handbook that will emphasize where little work has been done and where the "rubber meets the road" — the supply chain process, information, and systems integration. These are pertinent issues facing practitioners and researchers in today’s business environment. This is a gap-bridging handbook that analyzes interaction issues from both the research and practitioner sides. The result is a volume that examines and provides practical solutions on interaction issues while being firmly grounded in research principles.

Structure of Enteric Neurons

The plexuses of Auerbach and Meissner are peculiar to the gut; they extend from the beginning of the unstriated portion of the oesophagus to the end of the rectum. They have usually been considered to belong to the sympathetic system, but it appears to me preferable to place them in a class by themselves. We may speak of them as forming the enteric nervous system. (Langley 1900) In this context, itislessimportant that Langleyexcludedthe striated part of the oesophagus from his de?nition of the enteric nervous system (ENS). Much more remarkable seems to be that for Langley, a physiologist, structural reasons were the most decisive for taking the nervous system within the wall of the gastrointestinal tract as an entity unto itself.

Stochastic Control of Hereditary Systems and Applications

This research monograph develops the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) theory through dynamic programming principle for a class of optimal control problems for stochastic hereditary differential systems. It is driven by a standard Brownian motion and with a bounded memory or an infinite but fading memory. The optimal control problems treated in this book include optimal classical control and optimal stopping with a bounded memory and over finite time horizon.

Stem Cell Transplantations Between Siblings as Social Phenomena : The Child’s Body and Family Decision-making

Offers insights in short- and long-term experiences from families with bone marrow transplantations between minor siblings. It is based on the first extended qualitative study with 17 families about experiences with recent transplants and experiences with transplants up to 20 years in the past. It covers reflections of donors, recipients and other family members, as well as family interactions. Transplantation of bone marrow from one sibling to another who is ill with a blood cancer (such as Leukemia) is a life-saving therapy. Young children however are not in a position to give consent themselves. How should they be adequately included, depending to their age? Which ethical questions are raised for the parents both at the time of treatment and afterwards, and for the medical professionals in clinical and regulatory contexts?

Sport and Oral Health : A Concise Guide

Explores the intricate interrelationship between oral health and sport, with the focus on highly popular team games, endurance sports, and explosive events. In order to understand the vulnerability of athletes of all levels of ability to oral health problems, relevant aspects of sports physiology and training are outlined, as are the predisposing behavioral, psychological, and physiological elements. Specific sports-related oral risk factors are identified and detailed, and the dental conditions frequently observed in athletes are explained. The dental clinical reality of athletes reveals a wide spectrum of oral consequences, affecting both soft and hard tissues, that can adversely impact on training and competitiveness. Principles of dental management are highlighted, and therapeutic solutions provided for the most common dental lesions. Emphasis is placed on preventative measures and solutions adapted to the athlete’s individual needs, as well as the importance of effective collaboration with a diverse team of professionals.

Sourcing Strategy : Principles, Policy and Designs

Sourcing Strategy is about sourcing as a long term strategic activity. Myopic purchasing management stops short with describing functional procedures and procedural innovations such as online order processing. The goal of this book is not just to document sourcing strategy, but to provide the tools to determine it. Therefore, rather than merely describing common sourcing processes, the book takes a normative approach to sourcing strategy. It argues for a rational, complete and integrated process where managers confront conflicts and dilemmas inherent in sourcing. It supports its recommendations with logical arguments from an interdisciplinary and analytical approach grounded in microeconomics, law and business strategy. Part 1 of the book explains the economic and business principles that underlie sourcing strategies. It derives policies that guide viable strategies to meet sourcing goals. Part 2 applies these to creative designs for standard sourcing scenarios. A user friendly software package is linked to the chapters, with guided exercises as a learning tool.
