Mean Oscillations and Equimeasurable Rearrangements of Functions

Various applications of equimeasurable function rearrangements to the ''best constant"-type problems are considered in this volume. Several classical theorems are presented along with some very recent results. In particular, the text includes a product-space extension of the Rising Sun lemma, a product-space version of the John-Nirenberg inequality for  bounded mean oscillation (BMO) functions with sharp exponent, a refinement of the Gurov-Reshetnyak lemma, sharp embedding theorems for Muckenhoupt, Gurov-Reshetnyak, reverse Hölder, and Gehring classes, etc. This volume is interesting for graduate students and mathematicians involved with these topics.

MDATA : A New Knowledge Representation Model: Theory, Methods and Applications

This book introduces a new knowledge representation model called MDATA (Multi-dimensional Data Association and inTelligent Analysis). By modifying the representation of entities and relations in knowledge graphs, dynamic knowledge can be efficiently described with temporal and spatial characteristics. The MDATA model can be regarded as a high-level temporal and spatial knowledge graph model, which has strong capabilities for knowledge representation. This book introduces some key technologies in the MDATA model, such as entity recognition, relation extraction, entity alignment, and knowledge reasoning with spatiotemporal factors. The MDATA model can be applied in many critical applications and this book introduces some typical examples, such as network attack detection, social network analysis, and epidemic assessment.

Max-Plus Methods for Nonlinear Control and Estimation

The central focus of this book is the control of continuous-time/continuous-space nonlinear systems. Using new techniques that employ the max-plus algebra, the author addresses several classes of nonlinear control problems, including nonlinear optimal control problems and nonlinear robust/H-infinity control and estimation problems. Several numerical techniques are employed, including a max-plus eigenvector approach and an approach that avoids the curse-of-dimensionality.. The max-plus-based methods examined in this monograph belong to an entirely new class of numerical methods for the solution of nonlinear control problems.The potential advantages of the max-plus-based approaches lie in the fact that solution operators for nonlinear HJB problems are linear over the max-plus algebra, and this linearity is exploited in the construction of algorithms.

Matrix Convolution Operators on Groups

In the last decade, convolution operators of matrix functions have received unusual attention due to their diverse applications. This monograph presents some new developments in the spectral theory of these operators. The setting is the Lp spaces of matrix-valued functions on locally compact groups. The focus is on the spectra and eigenspaces of convolution operators on these spaces, defined by matrix-valued measures. Among various spectral results, the L2-spectrum of such an operator is completely determined and as an application, the spectrum of a discrete Laplacian on a homogeneous graph is computed using this result. The contractivity properties of matrix convolution semigroups are studied and applications to harmonic functions on Lie groups and Riemannian symmetric spaces are discussed. An interesting feature is the presence of Jordan algebraic structures in matrix-harmonic functions.

Mathematics of Financial Markets

This book presents the mathematics that underpins pricing models for derivative securities, such as options, futures and swaps, in modern financial markets. The idealized continuous-time models built upon the famous Black-Scholes theory require sophisticated mathematical tools drawn from modern stochastic calculus. However, many of the underlying ideas can be explained more simply within a discrete-time framework.
