Service Availability ; 4th International Service Availability Symposium, ISAS 2007, Durham, NH, USA, May 21-22, 2007, Proceedings
Program Chairs’ Message th The 4 International Service Availability Symposium (ISAS 2007) continued with the tradition of its predecessors by bringing together researchers and practitioners from both academia and industry to address the problems of service availability. The unique characteristic of a strong academic and industrial partnership was vividly - flected in this year’s event, from the Organizing Committee to the contributions and the participants. Recognizing the value of broadening the scope of ISAS 2007, we included new topic areas that cover model-driven design and human factors. We received a total of 25 submissions, each of which was thoroughly reviewed by at least three members of the Program Committee. Due to the limited time allocated for the symposium, many worthwhile manuscripts unfortunately did not make it into the final program.
Scientific engineering of distributed Java applications ; 4th International Workshop, FIDJI 2004, Luxembourg-Kirchberg, Luxembourg, November 24-25, 2004, Revised Selected Papers
The scope of the workshop included the following topics: – design of distributed applications – development methodologies for software and system engineering – UML-based development methodologies – development of reliable and secure distributed systems – component-based development methodologies – dependability support during system life cycle – fault tolerance re?nement, evolution and decomposition – atomicity and exception handling in system development – software architectures, frameworks and design patterns for developing d- tributed systems – integration of formal techniques in the development process – formal analysis and grounding of modelling notation and techniques (e. g. , UML, metamodelling) – supporting the security and dependability requirements of distributed app- cations in the development process – distributed software inspection – refactoring methods – industrial and academic case studies – development and analysis tools The organization of such a workshop represents an important amount of work.
Rice Improvement : Physiological, Molecular Breeding and Genetic Perspectives
This book emphasizes on the areas of rice science that attempt to overcome the foremost limitations in rice production. Our intention is to highlight research advances in the fields of physiology, molecular breeding and genetics, with a special focus on increasing productivity, improving biotic and abiotic stress tolerance and nutritional quality of rice.

Regulatory T Cells in Inflammation
Regulatory T-cells are essential components of the immune system, and several different subsets of regulatory T-cells have been described. Considerable regulatory function has been attributed to the CD4+CD25+ T-cell subset. These cells act by suppressing adaptive and possibly innate immune responses thereby maintaining or restoring the balance between immunity and tolerance. The suppressive effects of CD4+CD25+ regulatory T-cells are cell-contact dependent. Recent developments and viewpoints in the field of CD4+CD25+ regulatory T-cells as well as the potential use of regulatory T-cells in immunotherapy of inflammatory diseases are discussed in this volume. By linking data from experimental models with recent findings from the clinic.

Radiation Effects on Embedded Systems
Radiation Effects on Embedded Systems aims at providing the reader with the major guidelines for coping with radiation effects on components supposed to be included in today’s applications devoted to operate in space, but also in the atmosphere at high altitude or at ground level. It contains a set of chapters based on the tutorials presented at the International School on Effects of Radiation on Embedded Systems for Space Applications (SERESSA) that was held in Manaus, Brazil, from 20 to 25 November 2005. This book will provide all IC engineers with useful information regarding outside (environmental) influences on their designs and is an excellent reference.
Radiation effects of advanced electronic devices and circuits
Aims to disclose the basic mechanisms of radiation effects for advanced devices and the breakthrough of new solutions to assess and mitigate radiation sensitivity in advanced devices and integrated circuits. This reprint presents new modeling approaches that predict how radiation impacts electronic devices and circuits. Accurate models are essential for designing devices that can tolerate radiation without significant performance degradation. We also focus on the innovative design and fabrication techniques that enhance the radiation tolerance of integrated circuits. Moreover, some discussions highlight new testing protocols and methodologies that provide more accurate and comprehensive evaluations of radiation hardness, as well as the latest advancements and trends that are of particular interest to researchers and professionals in the radiation effects community.
Protocols for Pre-Field Screening of Mutants for Salt Tolerance in Rice, Wheat and Barley
This book offers effective, low-cost and user-friendly protocols for the pre-field selection of salt-tolerant mutants in cereal crops. It presents simple methods for measuring soil salinity, including soil sampling and the analysis of water-soluble salts, and describes a detailed, but simple, screening test for salt tolerance in rice, wheat and barley seedlings, which uses hydroponics. The protocols are devised for use by plant breeders and can be easily accommodated into breeding practice.

Neonatal Immunity
New advances in cellular immunology, molecular biology, recombinant DNA and proteins, and the function of cytokines and chemokines have revolutionized the study of neonatal immune responsiveness. In Neonatal Immunity, Constantin Bona, MD, critically reviews the classic, as well as most recent-and quite seminal-findings concerning the phenotypic and molecular characteristics of both fetal and neonatal B and T cells, the cells that mediate antibody and cellular immune responses in newborns and infants. Dr. Bona shows how the antibody response of neonates is modulated by maternal antibodies and how, in certain cases, this can cause transient or life-threatening neonatal autoimmune disease. He also describes the characteristics of neonatal tolerance induced by foreign allo- and self-antigens, which are the basis for understanding impaired infant immune response and which provide a rationale for the development of efficient neonatal vaccines. By making clear the characteristics and differences between the immune system and the immune responses of both newborns and infants, compared to those of adults, Dr. Bona offers insights and challenging hypotheses that promise to help overcome the poor responses of neonates to various antigens. Multimodal Concepts for Integration of Cytotoxic Drugs
The first part of this book summarizes the rationale and the preclinical data for combined treatment with ionizing radiation and pharmaceutical agents. Individual chapters focus on different forms of combined treatment, with due consideration being given to a range of drugs and to emerging combinations with small molecules and antibodies, derived from recent advances in molecular oncology. The second part of the book comprises a series of disease-specific chapters in which the clinical results of combined modality treatment are presented. In addition, the topics of acute and late toxicity, supportive treatment and tolerance in elderly patients are reviewed.
