Modelling of Powder Die Compaction

In particular, the book presents a number of case studies that have been developed to test compaction models. Full details of the data required for input to compaction models of these case studies is given, together with a survey of the techniques used to generate the data. Details are also given of methods to produce and assess components for validation of die compaction models. The inclusion of information on case studies then provides a reference for the testing and validation of compaction models.

Model Based Learning and Instruction in Science

This book describes new, model based teaching methods for science instruction. It presents research that describes these new methods in a very diverse group of settings: middle school biology, high school physics, and college chemistry classrooms. Mental models in these areas such as understanding the structure of the lungs or cells, molecular structures and reaction mechanisms in chemistry, or causes of current flow in electricity are notoriously difficult for many students to learn. Yet these lie at the core of conceptual understanding in these areas. The studies focus on a variety of teaching strategies such as discrepant questioning, analogies, animations, model competition, and hands on activities.

Misinterpretations about Covid-19 vaccines

Immunization has become a vital part of public health and disease prevention, yet remain Vaccination is the most effective medical intervention ever a controversial topic. introduced, it has eliminated a large part of the infectious diseases that once killed millions of people. Recently, a number of effective vaccines have been manufactured and proved to be effective against the virus, but a rising incidents was observed of refusing people to take COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccine because of the wrong myths they hear about the vaccine or its existing and non-existing side effects. The purpose of this research is to clarify information and remove vagueness about the vaccines and definitively convert fake concepts into facts by answering questions in a scientific method.

mHealth Innovation in Asia : Grassroots Challenges and Practical Interventions

Offers a detailed account of a range of mHealth initiatives across South, Southeast and East Asia. It provides readers with deep insights into the challenges such initiatives face on the ground, and a view of the diverse cultural contexts shaping strategies for overcoming these challenges. The book brings together various discussions on the broader mHealth literature, and demonstrates how a research focus on diverse Asian contexts influences the success and/or failure of current mHealth initiatives. It also highlights the important roles social scientists can play in advancing theoretical approaches, as well as planning, implementing and evaluating mHealth initiatives. The book is a valuable resource for project planners, policy developers in NGOs and government institutions, as well as academics, researchers and students in the fields of public health, communications and development studies.

Metaphor and Analogy in Science Education

This book brings together powerful ideas and new developments from internationally recognised scholars and classroom practitioners to provide theoretical and practical knowledge to inform progress in science education. This is achieved through a series of related chapters reporting research on analogy and metaphor in science education. Throughout the book, contributors not only highlight successful applications of analogies and metaphors, but also foreshadow exciting developments for research and practice. Themes include metaphor and analogy: best practice, as reasoning; for learning; applications in teacher development; in science education research; philosophical and theoretical foundations. Accordingly, the book is likely to appeal to a wide audience of science educators –classroom practitioners, student teachers, teacher educators and researchers.

Mathematics and Mechanics of Granular Materials

Granular or particulate materials arise in almost every aspect of our lives, including many familiar materials such as tea, coffee, sugar, sand, cement and powders. At some stage almost every industrial process involves a particulate material, and it is usually the cause of the disruption to the smooth running of the process. In the natural environment, understanding the behaviour of particulate materials is vital in many geophysical processes such as earthquakes, landslides and avalanches. This book is a collection of current research from some of the major contributors in the topic of modelling the behaviour of granular materials. Papers from every area of current activity are included, such as theoretical, numerical, engineering and computational approaches. This book illustrates the numerous diverse approaches to one of the outstanding problems of modern continuum mechanics.

Introduction to Machine Learning with Applications in Information Security

Provides a classroom-tested introduction to a wide variety of machine learning and deep learning algorithms and techniques, reinforced via realistic applications. The book is accessible and doesn't prove theorems, or dwell on mathematical theory. The goal is to present topics at an intuitive level, with just enough detail to clarify the underlying concepts. The book covers core classic machine learning topics in depth, including Hidden Markov Models (HMM), Support Vector Machines (SVM), and clustering. Additional machine learning topics include k-Nearest Neighbor (k-NN), boosting, Random Forests, and Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA). The fundamental deep learning topics of backpropagation, Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), Multilayer Perceptrons (MLP), and Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN) are covered in depth. A broad range of advanced deep learning architectures are also presented, including Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN), Extreme Learning Machines (ELM), Residual Networks (ResNet), Deep Belief Networks (DBN), Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT), and Word2Vec.

Introducing architectural tectonics

Focuses on the tectonic analysis of twenty contemporary works of architecture located in eleven countries including Germany, Italy, United States, Chile, Japan, Bangladesh, Spain, and Australia and designed by such notable architects as Tadao Ando, Herzog & de Meuron, Kengo Kuma, Olson Kundig, and Peter Zumthor. Although similarities do exist between the projects, their distinctly different characteristics – location and climate, context, size, program, construction methods – and range of interpretations of tectonic expression provide the most significant lessons of the book, helping you to understand tectonic theory. Written in clear, accessible language, these investigations examine the poetic creation of architecture, showing you lessons and concepts that you can integrate into your own work, whether studying in a university classroom or practicing in a professional office.

Interpolation, Schur Functions and Moment Problems

In signal processing, they are often named reflection coefficients. Under the word "Schur analysis" one encounters a variety of problems related to Schur functions, such as interpolation problems, moment problems, the study of the relationships between the Schur coefficients and the properties of the function, or the study of underlying operators. Such questions are also considered for some generalizations of Schur functions. Furthermore, there is an extension of the notion of a Schur function for functions that are analytic and have a positive real part in the open upper half-plane; these functions are called Carathéodory functions. This volume is almost entirely dedicated to the analysis of Schur and Carathéodory functions and to the solutions of problems for these classes.

Interface Oral Health Science 2007 ; Proceedings of the 2nd International Symposium for Interface Oral Health Science, Held in Sendai, Japan, Between 18 and 19 February, 2007

Interface Oral Health Science is a major theme for next-generation dental research. That theme is based on the innovative concept that healthy oral function is provided by biological and biomechanical harmony among three systems: oral tissues including the teeth, mucosa, bones, and muscles (host); parasitic microorganisms of the oral cavity (parasites); and biomaterials. The concept posits that oral diseases such as dental caries, periodontal disease, and tempo- mandibular disorders should be interpreted as interface diseases that result from disruption of the intact interfaces among these systems. The uniqueness of this concept rests on the fact that it not only encompasses the entire fi eld of dentistry and dental care, but also expands the common ground shared with many other fields, including medicine, pharmaceutical science, agriculture, material science, and engineering.
