Video Traces for Network Performance Evaluation : A Comprehensive Overview and Guide on Video Traces and Their Utilization in Networking Research

Multimedia networking applications and, in particular, the transport of compressed video are expected to contribute significantly to the trafic in the future Internet and wireless networks. For transport over networks, video is typically encoded (i. e. , compressed) to reduce the bandwidth requirements. Even compressed video, however, requires large bandwidths of the order of hundred kbps or Mbps. In addition, compressed video streams typically inhibit highly variable bit rates (VBR) as well as long range dependence (LRD) properties. This, in conjunction with the stringent Quality of Service (QoS) requirements (loss and delay) of video tra?c, makes the transport of video tra?cover communication networks a challenging problem. As a consequence, in the last decade the networking research community has witnessed an - plosion in research on all aspects of video transport.

Understanding Multimedia Documents

Understanding Multimedia Documents deals with issues of great interest to an expanding community of multimedia designers and professional users, such as teachers and information workers. Multimedia documents are increasingly used to communicate knowledge in the mass media and educational contexts. In order to improve their practice, designers, teachers, and other professionals interested in the use of multimedia documents must be aware of how multimedia documents impact students' perception, comprehension and use of information.

Transactions on Data Hiding and Multimedia Security I

This inaugural issue contains five papers dealing with a wide range of topics related to multimedia security. The first paper deals with evaluation criteria for the performance of audio watermarking algorithms. The second provides a survey of problems related to watermark security. The third discusses practical implementations of zero-knowledge watermark detectors and proposes efficient solutions for correlation-based detectors. The fourth introduces the concept of Personal Entertainment Domains (PED) in Digital Rights Management (DRM) schemes. The fifth reports on the use of fusion techniques to improve the detection accuracy of steganalysis.

Three-Dimensional Television : Capture, Transmission, Display

3DTV require the integration of a diversity of key technologies from computing to graphics, imaging to display, and signal processing to communications. The scope of this book reflects this diversity: different chapters deal with different stages of an end-to-end 3DTV system such as capture, representation, coding, transmission, and display. Both autostereoscopic techniques which eliminate the need for special glasses and allow viewer movement, and holographic approaches which have the potential to provide the truest three-dimensional images, are covered. Some chapters discuss current research trends in 3DTV technology, while others address underlying topics.

The VC-1 and H.264 Video Compression Standards for Broadband Video Services

The VC-1 and H.264 Video Compression Standards for Broadband Video Services covers these video coding standards, as well as issues in broadband video delivery. No other book about H.264 or VC-1 covers the standards in such detail. This book interprets the complex standards specifications and makes these new technologies accessible. Both authors have more than 12 years experience working on video compression and communications.

The Sense of Touch and its Rendering : Progress in Haptics Research

"Sense of Touch and its Rendering" presents a unique and interdisciplinary approach highlighting the field of haptic research from a neuropsychological as well as a technological point of view. and provides an important contribution towards a new generation of high-fidelity haptic display technologies. The book is structured in two parts: A. Fundamental Psychophysical and Neuropsychological Research and B. Technology and Applications. The eleven chapters discuss the recent advances in the study of human haptic (kinaesthetic, tactile, temperature) and multimodal (visual, auditory, haptic) perception mechanisms. Besides the theoretical advancement, the contributions survey the state-of-the-art in the field, report a number of practical applications to real systems, and discuss possible future developments.

The semantic web : Real-world applications from industry

It offers a glimpse into the opening door of semantic technologies by means of concentrated examples of semantic applications in real business environments. For quite a while, there has been evidence from academic research and early industrial prototypes that semantic technology can help humans and machines substantially in accessing and using the unprecedented, and exponentially growing, amount of information that the World Wide Web provides. Now semantic technology is moving from academic and industrial research into real products and applications. This book provides a series of case studies which demonstrate how real benefits can be derived from the adoption of semantic technology in popular business domains, such as telecommunication, B2B integration, healthcare, education, and others.
