Design of Hybrid Structures : Where Steel Profiles Meet Concrete
Focuses on design approaches for concrete structures reinforced in an unconventional way by steel profiles. It explains force transfer mechanisms of steel profiles and oncrete interfaces, and an analysis of the characteristics of hybrid structures, including slendercomponents. Several types of hybrid designs are addressed: walls and columns with several embedded steel profiles, connections strengthened by steel profiles between steel and composite or reinforced concrete components, including the specific case of shear keys connecting deep beams or flat slabs to columns. The transition zones in partly reinforced concrete and partly composite columns are also covered.

Design and Analysis of Simulation Experiments
This is an advanced expository book on statistical methods for the Design and Analysis of Simulation Experiments (DASE). Though the book focuses on DASE for discrete-event simulation (such as queuing and inventory simulations), it also discusses DASE for deterministic simulation (such as engineering and physics simulations). The text presents both classic and modern statistical designs. Classic designs (e.g., fractional factorials) assume only a few factors with a few values per factor. The resulting input/output data of the simulation experiment are analyzed through low-order polynomials, which are linear regression (meta)models. Modern designs allow many more factors, possible with many values per factor. These designs include group screening (e.g., Sequential Bifurcation, SB) and space filling designs (e.g., Latin Hypercube Sampling, LHS). The data resulting from these modern designs may be analyzed through low-order polynomials for group screening and various metamodel types (e.g., Kriging) for LHS.

This book teaches data-parallel programming using C++ and the SYCL standard from the Khronos Group and walks through everything needed to use SYCL for programming heterogeneous systems. The book begins by introducing data parallelism and foundational topics for effective use of SYCL and Data Parallel C++ (DPC++), the open source compiler used in this book.
Data feminism
We have seen through many examples that data science and artificial intelligence can reinforce structural inequalities like sexism and racism. Data is power, and that power is distributed unequally. This book offers a vision for a feminist data science that can challenge power and work towards justice. This book takes a stand against a world that benefits some (including the authors, two white women) at the expense of others. It seeks to provide concrete steps for data scientists seeking to learn how feminism can help them work towards justice, and for feminists seeking to learn how their own work can carry over to the growing field of data science.
Damage and Cracking of Concrete Structures : From Theory to Practice
Understanding and managing damage and cracking in concrete is essential to ensuring the integrity and durability of civil engineering structures. This book also addresses many situations, such as monotonic or cyclic behavior, seismic responses, a description of fast dynamic situations and effects due to the maturation of concrete at an early age in massive structures. Numerous detailed exercises are provided to help students to understand modeling and calculation techniques.

Customer Integration in Industrial Innovation Projects
The development of product innovations is permanently challenged by the customers’ rapidly evolving demand for new products and technologies. New approaches for integrating customers into the product innovation process are required and have been exemplified in a software engineering context by Extreme Programming. Patricia Sandmeier demonstrates how a transfer of elements from Extreme Programming to the development practice of industrial products can improve customer integration activities and the innovativeness of the resulting new products. Based on an in-depth case study analysis of two industrial firms and two technical service firms she presents a conceptual model for the integration of customer contributions into the product innovation process. Finally, the author proposes a product innovation process based on discrete product development steps as well as a ‘customer-centered innovation cell’ enabling the development of truly innovative product solutions together with customers.
Curriculum Reform in the European Schools : Towards a 21st Century Vision
Examines the modern role of the European School system within the European Union, at a time when the global economy demands a new vision for contemporary education. The European schools are currently in a state of crisis: their 60-year-old tradition of bilingual and multilingual education is being strained by rapid EU expansion and the removal of English speaking teachers as a result of Brexit. Their tried and tested model of mathematics and science education has rapidly been overtaken by new developments in pedagogy and assessment research, while recruitment and retention of students and teachers has become increasingly fraught as European member states review what they are, and what they are not, prepared to fund. The authors draw on original and empirical research to assess the European Schools’ place in a new Europe where the entire post-war European Project is potentially at risk. This well-researched volume will be of interest to practitioners working in European schools as well as students and scholars of EU politics and international education.

Curcumin : clinical uses, health effects and potential complications
Curcumin is a natural product with polyphenolic structure. It is used in therapeutic remedies alone or in combination with other natural substances. Many researchers are investigating it because of its biological activities such as: anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, anti-protozoal, anti-viral, anti-bacterial and has been found to be effective for treatment of Alzheimer, depression, headaches, fibromyalgia, leprosy, fever, menstrual problems, water retention, worms and kidney problems etc. It is an active ingredient in dietary spice, turmeric. It has reactive functional groups: a diketone moiety and two phenolic groups. Despite its unique biological activities, it suffers from some shortcomings which include: gastrointestinal problems, poor bioavailability due to its poor absorption, short half-life, poor solubility in aqueous solutions, rapid systemic elimination and antithrombotic activity which can interfere with blood clotting. The first chapter of this book reviews the different delivery systems used for incorporation of curcumin and its derivatives, release kinetics and up to date in vivo results. Chapter two discusses curcumin nano and microencapsulation and its implications on clinical uses.

Creativity and Innovation in the Music Industry
The book provides an explanation for the emergence of innovation and creativity in the music industry by retelling and interpreting its history, from Thomas Alva Edison’s invention of the phonograph in 1877 to the latest innovations such as MP3-files and iPods. The global nature of this history causes me to believe that this book is going to be of interest to an international readership as well. My hope is that this translation will be received with the same level of warmth and generosity that the publication of the German original enjoyed.
Creative applications of artificial intelligence in education
Explores the synergy between AI and education, highlighting its potential impact on pedagogical practices. It navigates the evolving landscape of AI-powered educational technologies and suggests practical ways to personalise instruction, nurture human-AI co-creativity, and transform the learning experience. Spanning from primary to higher education, this short and engaging volume proposes concrete examples of how educational stakeholders can be empowered in their AI literacy to foster creativity, inspire critical thinking, and promote problem-solving by embracing AI as a tool for expansive learning. Structured in three parts, the book starts developing the creative engagement perspective for learning and teaching to then present practical applications of AI in K-12 and higher education, covering different fields (teacher education, professional education, business education) as well as different types of AI supported tools (games, chatbots, and AI assisted assessment).
