Advances in knowledge discovery and data mining ; Vol. 3918 : 10th Pacific-Asia Conference, PAKDD 2006, Singapore, April 9-12, 2006, Proceedings
The Pacific-Asia Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (PAKDD) is a leading international conference in the area of data mining and knowledge discovery. This year marks the tenth anniversary of the successful annual series of PAKDD conferences held in the Asia Pacific region. It was with pleasure that we hosted PAKDD 2006 in Singapore again, since the inaugural PAKDD conference was held in Singapore in 1997. PAKDD 2006 continues its tradition of providing an international forum for researchers and industry practitioners to share their new ideas, original research results and practical development experiences from all aspects of KDD data mining, including data cleaning, data warehousing, data mining techniques, knowledge visualization, and data mining applications.

Knowledge discovery and data mining have become areas of growing significance because of the recent increasing demand for KDD techniques, including those used in machine learning, databases, statistics, knowledge acquisition, data visualization, and high performance computing. In view of this, and following the success of the five previous PAKDD conferences, the sixth Pacific-Asia Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (PAKDD 2002) aimed to provide a forum for the sharing of original research results, innovative ideas, state-of-the-art developments, and implementation experiences in knowledge discovery and data mining among researchers in academic and industrial organizations. Much work went into preparing a program of high quality. We received 128 submissions.

Advances in Human-Robot Interaction
The book addresses key issues of human-robot interaction concerned with perception, modelling, control, planning and cognition, covering a wide spectrum of applications. Constitutes the proceedings of the Industrial Conference on Data Mining ICDM-Leipzig was the fourth meeting in a series of annual events which started in 2000, organized by the Institute of Computer Vision and Applied Computer Sciences (IBaI) in Leipzig. The mission of the conference is to bring together researchers and people from industry in order to discuss together new trends and applications in data mining. This year a broad spectrum of work of different applications was presented ranging from image mining, medicine and biotechnology, management and environmental control, to telecommunications. Besides that an industrial exhibition showed the successful application of data mining methods by industries in different areas such as medical devices, mass data management systems, data mining tools, etc. During the discussion many projects were inspired leading to new and joint work. The fruitful discussions, the exchange of ideas and the spirit of the conference made it a remarkable event for both sides, industry and research.
