Why Popcorn Costs So Much at the Movies : And Other Pricing Puzzles
How Prices Matter rices are ubiquitous, so much so that their importance to the smooth operation of a market economy (even one constrained by extensive polit- P ical controls as is the case in China) can go unnoticed and unheralded. Prices are what all trades, whether at the local mall or across the globe, are built around. Tey facilitate trades among buyers and sellers who don’t know each other, meaning they make less costly, or more socially benefcial, the allocation and redistribution of the planet’s scarce resources. Indeed, as the late Friedrich Hayek is renowned for having observed, prices summarize a vast amount of - formation on the relative scarcity and, hence, the relative cost of resources (with much of the information subjective in nature) that can be known only by ind-i viduals scattered across markets and cannot be collected in centralized loc- tions, except through market-determined prices.
Wavelet Analysis and Applications
This volume reflects the latest developments in the area of wavelet analysis and its applications. Since the cornerstone lecture of Yves Meyer presented at the ICM 1990 in Kyoto, to some extent, wavelet analysis has often been said to be mainly an applied area. However, a significant percentage of contributions now are connected to theoretical mathematical areas, and the concept of wavelets continuously stretches across various disciplines of mathematics.

Tropical and Parasitic Infections in the Intensive Care Unit
In the past, many tropical and parasitic infections were confined to tropical areas of the world located between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. However, with the increase in air travel and tourism and the changing patterns of immigration, an increasing number of individuals are coming into contact with these infectious agents and transmission across the world has been enhanced. Tropical and Parasitic Infections in the Intensive Care Unit provides an international perspective on this topic and an overview of those infections that may cause critical illness.
Transforming Food Systems for a Rising India
This book examines India’s economic development, agricultural production, and nutrition through the lens of a “Food Systems Approach (FSA).” Despite economic progress, regional inequality, food insecurity and malnutrition persist. Simultaneously, recent trends in obesity and micro-nutrient deficiency indicate a future public health crisis. This book explores the challenges and opportunities to achieve a nutrition-secure future through diversified production systems, improved health and hygiene and greater individual capability to access a balanced diet. Within the context of developing countries, they highlight India’s status as an outlier regarding high levels of stunting and global trends in obesity. This book discusses the policy and institutional interventions needed to promote a nutrition-sensitive food system and the multi-sectoral strategies needed to address malnutrition in India.

The Silver Market Phenomenon : Business Opportunities in an Era of Demographic Change
The current shift in demographics – aging and shrinking populations – in many countries around the world presents a major challenge to companies and societies alike. One particularly essential implication is the emergence and constant growth of the so-called “silver market”, the market segment more or less broadly defined as those people aged 55 and older. Increasing in number and share of the total population while at the same time being relatively well-off, this market segment can be seen as very attractive and promising, although still very underdeveloped in terms of product and service offerings. This book offers a thorough and up-to-date analysis of the challenges and opportunities in leveraging innovation, technology, product development and marketing for elder consumers and employees. Key lessons are drawn from the Japanese lead market as well as other select countries.
The restless compendium : Interdisciplinary investigations of rest and its opposites
Contains 22 essays and interventions on rest and restlessness, silence and noise, relaxation and work. It draws together approaches from artists, literary scholars, psychologists, activists, historians, geographers and sociologists who challenge assumptions about how rest operates across mind, bodies, and practices. Rest’s presence or absence affects everyone. Nevertheless, defining rest is problematic: both its meaning and what it feels like are affected by many socio-political, economic and cultural factors. The authors open up unexplored corners and experimental pathways into this complex topic, with contributions ranging from investigations of daydreaming and mindwandering, through histories of therapeutic relaxation and laziness, and creative-critical pieces on lullabies and the Sabbath, to experimental methods to measure aircraft noise and track somatic vigilance in urban space.
The effectiveness of diode laser in activating irrigation fluids to eliminate bacteria in the treatment of root canals system
Efective disinfection of the root canals is the cornerstone of successful. endodontic treatment. Diminishing the microbial load within the root canal system is crucial for healing in endodontically treated teeth. The main goal of the study is to achieve efficient disinfection of the root canal system, to enhance the efficiency of the irrigating solutions Using diode laser with and without calcium hydroxide and calcium hydroxide alone compared to conventional Sodium hypochlorite syringe irrigation.
Teaching and Learning of Calculus
This survey focuses on the main trends in the field of calculus education. Despite their variety, the findings reveal a cornerstone issue that is strongly linked to the formalism of calculus concepts and to the difficulties it generates in the learning and teaching process. As a complement to the main text, an extended bibliography with some of the most important references on this topic is included.
Target Cancer Therapy
Cancer is known as abnormal growth of cells due to genetic mutations associated with other factors such as smocking, overweight, physical inactivity and changing reproductive pattern. Each mutation drives a wave of cellular multiplication associated with gradual increases in tumor size, disorganization and malignancy. Cancer treatment are invasive, painful, expensive and often creating long term negative side effect. The most common cancer treatment are chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgery, hormone therapy, stem cell transplant and the modest one is targeted cancer therapy. Target cancer therapies are drugs or other substances that block the growth and spread of cancer by interfering with specific molecules that are involved in the growth, progression and spread of cancer. Targeted therapies are currently focus of much anticancer drug development, they are cornerstone of precision medicine, a form of medicine that uses information about person’s genes and proteins to prevent, diagnose and treat disease.

Solar Dynamics and its Effects on the Heliosphere and Earth
The SOHO and Cluster missions form a single ESA cornerstone. Yet they observe very different regions in our solar system. At the same time the Ulysses mission provides observations in the third dimension of the heliosphere, and many others add to the picture from the Lagrangian point L1 to the edge of the heliosphere. It is the aim of this ISSI volume to tie these observations together in addressing the topic of Solar Dynamics and its Effects on the Heliosphere and Earth.
Socio-technical innovation bundles for agri-food systems transformation

Régression : Théorie et applications = Regression : Theory and Applications
This book explains in detail, with supporting examples, one of the most common statistical methods: regression. The first chapters are devoted to simple and multiple linear regression. They explain the fundamentals of the method, both in terms of the choices made as well as the hypotheses and their usefulness. Then the tools are developed to verify the basic assumptions implemented by the regression. A simple presentation of the analysis of covariance and variance models is performed. Finally, the last chapters are devoted to the choice of models as well as to certain extensions of the regression.
Red eye syndrome
Red eye is the cardinal sign of ocular inflammation. The condition is usually benign and can be managed by primary care physicians. Conjunctivitis is the most common cause of red eye. Other common causes include blepharitis, corneal abrasion, foreign body, subconjunctival hemorrhage, keratitis, iritis, glaucoma, chemical burn, and scleritis. Signs and symptoms of red eye include eye discharge, redness, pain, photophobia, itching, and visual changes. Generally, viral and bacterial conjunctivitis are self-limiting conditions, and serious complications are rare. Because there is no specific diagnostic test to differentiate viral from bacterial conjunctivitis, most cases are treated using broad-spectrum antibiotics. Allergies or irritants also may cause conjunctivitis.
