It is my pleasure to introduce to our civil engineering students at Arab International University (AIU) our book entitled ′′Building Chemistry′′, chemistry for civil engineering students. This book is a result of my experience teaching chemistry for civil engineering undergraduate students since 2007 at AIU. In this book, the subjects were carefully chosen to give students the necessary chemical concepts to solve real problems might face them in their final career as future civil engineers. The book contains twelve chapters, which cover the following main topics:  Periodic Table and properties of metals and nonmetals.  Iron and alloys (Extraction of iron from its natural ores, chemical properties of iron, alloys and formation of steel).  Metallic bonding (to understand the general properties of metals; such as malleability, ductility and their good heat and electricity conductivity).  Silicate minerals, glass and ceramics.  Chemistry of cement and concrete, Chemistry and properties.  Deterioration of concrete.  Electrochemistry and corrosion of metals.  Intermolecular forces and properties of liquid (viscosity, surface tension, capillary action).  Properties of solutions (vapor pressure lowering, boiling point elevation, freezing point depression and osmotic pressure).  Properties of Water. It is also worth mentioning that the topics are presented in a very simple manner and easy language as much as possible to meet both the chemistry background and language level for first year undergraduate students. At the end of each chapter, the main ideas are given in a summary as well as some questions and problems are presented to make sure the main ideas are really understood by the learners.
