International Summer School “New Challenges in Global Politics - Arab and European Responses” with the Center of Global Politics of Free University, Berlin, at AIU Campus Ghabagheb, July 20 – 30, 2009

The Global Politics Summer School (GPSS) is held by the Center for Global Politics of Free University Berlin and the Arab International University at AIU Campus, Ghabagheb from 20th to 30th of July 2009. It is aiming at:

  • Connecting future elites and building transnational networks between Syria and Germany.
  • Going beyond traditional teaching methods by deep interaction between students and lecturers of different academic backgrounds. Students are thus confronted with key competencies, including, analytical skills, practical knowledge, presentation techniques and writing.
  • Applying state-of-the-art teaching and learning methods, ranging from interactive working groups to simulation games.

GPSS is designed for 20 postgraduate students from Syria and Germany with a first academic degree (BA or equivalent) in political sciences or related fields such as law, media, economics or journalism and professionals who intend to deepen their understanding of global challenges and their political, economic and social causes and impacts. It covers national, regional and international issues. Participants will be expected to work across a multitude of international related fields.

 GPSS will start with an Expert Workshop "Internationalization of Study Programs in the Context of National Policies and Approaches to Higher Education". Higher Education specialists from Syria and Germany will discuss national needs and specific approaches of academic programs in the framework of Internationalization.

 The deadline of applying has been extended to the 15th of July 2009.

 There will be no tuition fees. Transportation from Damascus to and from AIU Campus will be provided.
