AIU- Entrance and Examinations

The Directorate of Admissions and Examinations is the cornerstone of Arab international university (AIU), and the main communication tool between the university and its students, whose academic journey has only just begun with the support of AIU. AIU works on eliminating all obstacles that may stall students’ progress to graduation, and with everything, they have acquired in science and all the skills they have developed during their academic years here at AIU, our students can start shaping their future just the way they’d always dreamed. The Directorate of Admissions and Examinations provides learners with all the information they need regarding studying at AIU, its faculties, majors and the registration and application prerequisites stated by the university, it also provides study support, help and guidance to all students during their study years.

 

Furthermore, the Directorate of Admissions and Examinations works on developing and enhancing the academic system at AIU which in turn, facilitates all application and admission procedures for both students and faculty members at the university. AIU has taken action to simplify admittance by enabling students to register and apply electronically as well as follow up on their applications regardless of location.

The Directorate of Admissions and Examinations, despite the immense amount of work, the variety of majors and programs it has to carry out on a daily basis, still found the time to ensure the application and admissions procedures are as simple and as straight forward as possible so all our students can find the sufficient amount of time to proceed their studies without any distraction or complications, for our one and only objective, is to have our students achieve the best and in due course, become the best.

And so we hope our Directorate of Admissions will provide our young learners with a thriving academic environment to leverage their progression here at AIU.

 

Vision:

The Directorate of Admissions and Examinations strives to achieve excellence in application and admission services through providing advanced computer registration methods to simplify the application process.

 

Mission:

The Directorate of Admissions and Examinations adheres to providing the best services and simplifying all the application and admissions procedures at AIU. The Directorate issues students’ application files and documents while taking into account professionality through advanced methods and qualified Human Resources. It is also committed to supporting Academic Advising, achieving transparency, and boosting work performance here at AIU.

 

Objectives:

  1. Drawing in and accepting students who have achieved a high GPA in high school.
  2. Developing the criteria for admitting students to AIU.
  3. Calculating all admissions and registration procedures and providing all the required data and statistics to support the faculty regulations as well as the university administration.
  4. Implementing all the latest technology methods to ensure excellence in service and in the admittance and registration process.
  5. Electronically upgrading academic documentation methods for students applying at AIU as well as issuing their required documents.
  6. Reinforcing electronic portal use for students’ registration and academic follow-ups.
  7. Raising students’ awareness regarding the university’s regulations, systems, and study/examination policy.
  8. Reinforcing the use of the academic system by all faculty members so they can look up students’ academic records and appoint the required Academic Advisors, this allows our Academic Advising system to carry out its job proficiently and hence boost students’ progression here at AIU.
  9. Leveraging work performance and developing teaching methods while taking into account students’ suggestions and recommendations stated by faculty members regarding how we can better improve presentation and performance at AIU.
  10. Investing in the agreements concluded with other universities and reinforcing the participation as well as exchanging expertise with the admissions and registration systems of the partner university.

 

 The methods of service adopted by the Directorate of Admissions and Examinations:

The Directorate of Admissions and Examinations at AIU adopts an advanced system to administer data and execute its profession accurately, this system involves:

 

 “SIS” Students’ Information System:

The Student Information System provides academic services for both students and faculty members as well as all the related university departments. It authorizes them to obtain and deal with necessary academic information and data while preserving its confidentiality and security. It also allows students and faculty members to look through this data and register directly online.

 

SIS branches many other systems, namely:

  1. Academic affairs
  2. Admittance
  3. Registration
  4. Students’ academic procedures
  5. Graduation
  6. Examinations, monitoring students’ grades and calculating their GPA
  7. Students accounting system
  8. Electronic services

 

Edugate:

Edugate is considered the main gateway to a wide variety of academic services which enable students and faculty members to obtain and deal with academic records, of these main services we have:

 Visitor services:

  1. Importing applications.
  2. Electronic services.
  3. Academic calendar.
  4. Study timetables.
  5. Faculty and study plan guide.

 

 Student services:

  1. Following up on examination results and evaluation.
  2. Academic procedure services (adding/cancelling/ changing major…etc.)
  3. Reviewing information and academic as well as financial data (study timetable, grades, academic evaluation, attendance/absence and students’ financial balance).

 

Faculty members’ services:

  1. Monitoring students’ grades.
  2. Academic Advising.
  3. Following up on students’ attendance and absence.
  4. Reviewing the information and academic data.

 

One- Requirements for holders of a Syrian bachelor's degree/baccalaureate:

  1. The applicant's original bachelor's degree (for Ministry of Higher Education scholarships only).
  2. Four copies of the applicant's bachelor's degree certified by the Ministry of Education
  3. 3.A photocopy of the applicant's identification/ID card (or their recent civil status record) and a photocopy of the applicant’s passport (if available).
  4. Two photos of the applicant (recent photos).
  5. 5.An AIU application form.
  6. A document (contract) of the student’s admission to AIU.

 

Two- Requirements for students holding a non-Syrian bachelor's degree/baccalaureate issued by Arab countries:

  1. The applicant's original bachelor's degree certified by:
  • The Ministries of Education and Foreign Affairs in the issuing country.
  • The Syrian embassy in the issuing country.
  • The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Damascus.

Please note: The certificate must be translated into Arabic (if it is not already in Arabic).

  1. Four certified copies of the applicant's bachelor's degree (certified by the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs).

-Seal replica after photocopying the certificate with the required stamps.

  1. The applicant's original middle school certificate, (duly certified), or an equivalent (Ninth Grade-Basic Learning-Third Middle grade-high school junior certificate if the applicant was studying in Kuwait).
  2. Two certified copies of the applicant's middle school certificate (ninth grade certificate) or an equivalent thereof.
  3. A photocopy of the applicant's identification card/ID (or a recent civil status document) and a photocopy of the applicant’s passport (if available).
  4. Two recent photos of the applicant.
  5. An AIU application form.
  6. A document (contract) of the student’s admission to AIU.

 

Three: For students who hold baccalaureate certificates from a foreign country other than their home country or foreign baccalaureate certificates from an Arab country:

 Duly Certified:

Means certified by:

  1. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the issuing country.
  2. The Syrian embassy in the issuing country.
  3. The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs along with a translation of any foreign documents in the Ministry of Education of the issuing country.
  4. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the issuing country.
  5. The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Damascus.

 

Certified Copies:

Should be certified by the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs after photocopying and showing all previous stamps.

 

Four- Students who have obtained their bachelor’s degree from the Pakistani School in Damascus:

  1. The applicant's original bachelor's degree certificate, “IGCSE” duly certified by: The University of Cambridge, the British Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Syrian Embassy in London and the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Damascus. 
  2. The applicant's original bachelor's degree certificate “GCE” or “AS LEVEL” (in at least two courses) duly certified by: The British Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Syrian embassy in London and the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Damascus. 
  3. (In addition to completing a certain amount of advanced level courses according to the instructions given by the Syrian Ministry of Education.)
  4. Four certified copies of the applicant's original bachelor's degree “IGCSE”.
  5. Four certified copies of the applicant’s original GCE” or “AS LEVEL” certificate.
  6. An original photocopy of the applicant's ninth and tenth grade transcripts duly certified and translated into Arabic.
  7. Two certified photocopies of the applicant's ninth and tenth grade transcripts duly certified and translated into Arabic.
  8. A photocopy of the applicant's identification card/ID card (or a recent civil status documents) and passport (if available).
  9. two recent photos of the applicant.
  10. An AIU application form.
  11. A document (contract) of the student’s admission to AIU.

 

Important Notice:

- Students holding non-Syrian high school certificates should obtain equivalent certificates from the Ministry of Education after verifying the information therein. This procedure will be carried out by the university. However, registration at this stage, is considered provisional and will be pending approval from the Ministry of Education. If the certificate is rejected by the Ministry of Education, the student’s registration will be invalid and any provisional registration thereafter will be done at the student's own risk.

- Students holding foreign high school certificates, or those who have obtained an equivalent certificate from an Arab country, or a high school certificate from the Pakistani International School of Damascus, should perform and pass the tests listed below:

  1. An Arabic language proficiency test (reading, writing and speaking) -This test is for holders of foreign nationalities.
  2. An Arabic language, civil education, history and geography test in the standard Syrian high school level for Syrian students.

 

Required documents for students transferring to AIU from other universities:

Students registered in Syrian or non-Syrian universities (public and private) can transfer to AIU according to prerequisites issued by the Ministry of Education.

 

Please note: To view the requirements for transferring from another university to AIU, please revise the admissions office at Arab International University.

 

Transferring to another faculty within AIU or changing majors:

Students registered at AIU are permitted to transfer faculties or change majors if:

  1. There are any available vacancies left to accept the student applying for transfer.
  2. If the student’s high school grades qualify them to transfer.
  3. The student passes the entrance examination required for the new major (this is only required for the faculties of Architecture and Arts)
  4. The student fulfills all the conditions required from new students in the faculty.

Please note: Students are not obligated to repeat any courses if they have already taken and passed them, this is according to the regulations issued by the Higher Education Council.

 

General Rules:

Study time at Arab International University:

Students studying Pharmacy or any Engineering field are allowed a maximum of only eight years at AIU before graduation. All other majors are allowed to remain registered at AIU for a maximum of seven years.

 

Suspending and postponing studies at Arab International University:

  1. Students are allowed to postpone their studies before the start of the academic semester if they have reasons to do so.
  2. Students are not allowed to postpone their studies for more than four consecutive or inconsecutive semesters.
  3. Once a student receives postponement approval, their absence will not be included in the limit of years allowed at AIU.
  4. New students or transfer students will not be allowed to have their studies postponed until they have spent at least one semester at AIU.
  5. A student will be allowed to suspend his/her studies if they have a compelling reason to do so after requesting permission from the university Dean and explaining the reasons for suspension.
  6. A student can only apply on the eighth week before the start of the first or second semester or before the fourth week of the Summer semester.
  7. If the suspension is approved, the student will be given a (W) in all their registered courses for that semester.
  8. Unjustified absence on behalf of the student will be included in the limit of study years allowed at AIU.

 

Cancelling registration at Arab International University:

If a student is absent from the university for four consecutive semesters without an approved request for postponement, their registration at the university will be suspended during the first half of the fifth discontinued semester. The suspension will be cancelled and the student will only be allowed to continue attending AIU if their return is approved by the university Dean.

 

Annual Calendar:

The directorate of admissions, registration and examination adopts a strict timetable during the annual calendar which ensures that all procedures are carried out with accuracy. The timetable is made to cohere with the AIU’s general timetable.

 

Graduation and certification:

Graduation requirements:

  1. Students at the university must complete their full credit hours successfully.
  2. Student’s GPA must be at least a 2 out of 4.
  3. No conditional pass in more than five course (for students who have attended AIU since 2011-2012)

 

Graduates will obtain the following documents:

  1. A graduation document in Arabic.
  2. A mural certificate in Arabic.
  3. A certified graduation document in both English and Arabic.
  4. A student’s transcript in both English and Arabic.

 

Other documents given to students:

  1. A graduation document in Arabic
  2. A copy of the graduation document.
  3. A document of the student’s duration and attendance at AIU
  4. A document of the students’ military postponement (for male students).
  5. A document of the student’s registration and proof of time.
  6. A document of the student’ study postponement.
  7. A document of the student’s study status at the university.
  8. A document showing that the student has completed his/her study hours successfully.
  9. University dependent verification document (in both English and Arabic).
  10. A report on students’ excellence in study performance (in both English and Arabic).
  11. A transcript for all the study courses attended by the student at AIU (in both English and Arabic).
  12. A document of completing all levels of English improving lessons.
  13. Other documents needed by the student (for whoever It may concern).
