Arab International University, Faculty of Architecture holds a scientific trip to the city of Maaloula

On Wednesday 02/11/2022, the Faculty of Architecture conducted a scientific trip for its students within the Site Coordination course, under the supervision of Dr. Shaker Al-Tunisi, Deputy Dean for Administrative and Student Affairs, Dr. Arwa Sharaf El-Din, course coordinator, and Dr. Sonia Nabil with a number of course instructors within the framework of the Site Coordination project. The purpose of the trip was to study the urban spaces within a cultural path that reflects the narratives and characteristics of Maaloula. The study included four squares with a variety of urban contexts, starting from the entrance to the city and up to the historic contemporary square.
The students analyzed the entrances to the spaces and movement axes, made the necessary sections, and identified the sites of the opening of the visual axes towards the natural landscape of the Qalamoun Mountains. Students also analyzed the overlapping patterns of Maaloula's unique residential structure among the mountains. Besides, they described the problems of the region and created knowledge maps with a view to establishing the basis to the proposed intervention on these sites. The students have also made some sketches of the sequential scenery throughout the trip.
