I disturbi della consapevolezza nelle malattie neuropsichiatriche = Disturbances of awareness in neuropsychiatric diseases

Aims to outline the set of current international knowledge on disease awareness in various neuropsychiatric conditions (hemiplegia resulting from brain damage, psychosis, dementia and mood disorders), with particular reference to anosognosia and 'insight. The comparison between different conceptualizations and the variety of clinical manifestations gives rise to a very complex picture that requires a multidimensional approach, especially as regards the diagnostic moment. To this end, the authors propose an integration of various contributions on the pathogenetic level, based on neuroanatomical evidence and supported by the most recent neuroimaging techniques. In addition, the use of a complex diagnostic battery is suggested, capable of analyzing the different aspects of the phenomenon, and distinguishing it from the psychological defensive mechanism of denial. Research in this field is also essential to promote rehabilitation and compliance with treatment, as well as the enrichment of knowledge on the processes underlying consciousness and awareness in the human being.

Explainable artificial intelligence in troke from the clinical, rehabilitation and nursing perspectives

As we know, strokes are one of the world's leading causes of death, and the cruel aspect of a stroke is that it leaves people with severe functional disability and/or cognitive impairment. Strokes have a significant impact on economies worldwide, as it is estimated that about 10% of the male population and 8% of the female population are affected by them. Such people need personal help in their everyday life and must be materially supported by social services. With the advancement of medicine, artificial intelligence, and new technologies have been developing rapidly and are gradually applied in diseases of the nervous system, increasingly helping diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and prognosis of disease.

Le forme spastiche della paralisi cerebrale infantile : Guida all'esplorazione delle funzioni adattive = Spastic forms of cerebral palsy : A guide to exploring adaptive functions

Offers "travel notes" on the topics covered, to spark reflection and comparisons with the readers' experience. The authors address the topics from a pathophysiological perspective that guides their interpretation of the nature of the defect (functional diagnosis), the problems related to prognosis (as a natural history hypothesis), and rehabilitation (as a modification of the architecture of the function in an adaptive sense). The text is accompanied by an extensive glossary of terms used and a DVD with clinical cases, organized according to the authors' classification. This material also highlights the volume's great educational value, both for those already working in this field (physicians, child neuropsychiatrists and physiatrists, rehabilitation therapists) and for students completing their first and second level degrees in rehabilitation and attending postgraduate schools.
