تراجع استعمال النباتات الطبية في مجتمعنا بشكل ملحوظ خلال السنوات الماضية واصبح استخدام العلاجات الكيميائية امر لا بديل عنه بإيجابياته وسلبياته، لكن مع الانفتاح على العالم و ظهور محاسن الخواص الطبية للنباتات عاد استخدام الادوية الطبيعية بشكل ملحوظ بين المجتمعات، ودعت عدة حركات ومنظمات الى العودة الى الطبيعة واستخدام الخواص الطبية للأعشاب للاستفادة من خواصها ذات التأثير الطبيعي والايجابي للجسم والاستغناء عن المركبات الكيميائية و العوارض الجانبية السيئة الناتجة عنها، وللتشجيع على هذا المنحى ذات الفائدة العالية للمستخدم وللطبيعية بالدرجة ذاتها كون تأثير هذه الصناعة لا يقارن بالصناعات الكيميائية، دعت الحاجة لوجود مركز متخصص في بلادنا يسلط الضوء على هذا المجال صناعيا و تعليميا للمختصين والمهتمين بهذا المجال.

Whole-cell biocatalysis : Next-generation technology for green synthesis of pharmaceutical, chemicals, and biofuels
Is a promising and emerging field of biological science that is mostly based on advancements in biosystems engineering for the production of useful products such as chemicals, fuels, and pharmaceuticals. It is a unique platform that provides an efficient catalytic system at affordable cost and with low maintenance. Recent studies have proven that whole-cell catalysis is very useful in conducting many complex and complicated chemical reactions that could be executed with greater ease and in an eco-friendly manner in ambient conditions with zero/minimal ecological effect. This has made whole-cell biocatalysis very popular and a center of significance in the field of modern biological catalysis.

Identification of cancer risk factors and potential prevention strategies have been some of the most important medical and research contributions to the improvement of public health in the past half-century (Steele 2003). Understanding the role of lifestyle, exposure to endogenous factors and exogenous environmental factors, and individual genetic and epigenetic variability have contributed significantly to this effort. Cancer prevention strategies have been developed based on results of epidemiologic, preclinical, and clinical studies that have generated clues for identifying risk factors that may be modulated by changes in lifestyle, such as smoking cessation or dietary modification (Greenwald 2002a).
