Young consumer behaviour : A research companion
Young consumer behaviour: A research companion focusses on exploring the behaviour of young consumers as individuals and societal members. The chapters address different aspects of consumption activities of children as individuals like motivation, involvement, perception, learning, attitude, the self, and personality. Similarly, chapters on consumer behaviour in social settings contextualised to young consumers including culture, sub-culture, family, and groups are incorporated into the book. This book fills a gap in the literature by addressing the dynamics of consumption patterns of this consumer group, in relation to various marketing stimuli and different stakeholders. It combines eclectic perspectives on the topic and specifically, bridges the gap between historical perspectives and contemporary issues.
Voice and Speech Quality Perception : Assessment and Evaluation
This book approaches the problem by actually identifying major perceptual dimensions of voice and speech quality perception, defining units wherever possible and offering paradigms to position these dimensions into a structural skeleton of perceptual speech and voice quality. The emphasis is placed on voice and speech quality assessment of systems in artificial scenarios. Many scientific fields are involved. This book bridges the gap between two quite diverse fields, engineering and humanities, and establishes the new research area of Voice and Speech Quality Perception.
Tissue Mechanics
Tissue Mechanics, Second Edition is about the mechanics of tissues for use at the advanced undergraduate level or above. Tissues transmit mechanical loads just like bridges and building structures. Not only do they transmit loads, but also they adapt their own structures so that the structures will transmit the mechanical loads more effectively, unlike bridges and building structures. The structures of living tissues are continually changing due to growth and response to the tissue environment, including the mechanical environment. The objective of this text is to describe the nature of the composite components of a tissue, the cellular processes that produce these constituents, the assembly of the constituents into a hierarchical structure, and the behavior of the tissue’s composite structure in the adaptation to its mechanical environment. A tissue’s mechanical environment is the history of mechanical loading experienced by the tissue in some reference time period, like a day.

The aimof this preface is to provide an overview of the contributions to this volume, placing this research in its wider context. The aim of the workshop was to bring together researchers working on sub-space and latent variable techniques in different research communities in orderto create bridges and enable cross-fertilization of ideas.
Stress ribbon and cable-supported pedestrian bridges
Stress-ribbon bridges' is the term used to describe structures formed by a very slender concrete deck in the shape of a catenary. They can be designed with one or more spans and are characterized by successive and complementary smooth curves. These curves blend into the natural environment and their forms, the most simple and basic of structural solutions, clearly articulate the flow of internal forces which can be erected without undue pressure on the environment. Stress Ribbon and Cable-supported Pedestrian Bridges looks at how slender concrete deck are used in the design of suspension and cable stayed structures.
Steel–concrete composite bridges
Steel Concrete Composite Bridges outlines the various forms that modern steel-concrete composite bridges take, from simple beam bridges through to arches and trusses and modern cable stay forms. It brings together a wide variety of steel-concrete composite bridge types, many of which have not been covered in any existing book or design guide. It outlines design rules for composite action and provides examples of their use in a wide variety of practical applications.
Statistical Physics : Including Applications to Condensed Matter
Statistical Physics bridges the properties of a macroscopic system and the microscopic behavior of its constituting particles, otherwise impossible due to the giant magnitude of Avogadro's number. Numerous systems of today's key technologies -- as e.g. semiconductors or lasers -- are macroscopic quantum objects; only statistical physics allows for understanding their fundamentals. Therefore, this graduate text also focuses on particular applications such as the properties of electrons in solids with applications, and radiation thermodynamics and the greenhouse effect.
Space Weather & Telecommunications
A survey of practical concepts for forecasting the performance of various telecommunication systems as well as a balanced treatment of space-weather phenomena that give rise to telecommunication impairment episodes. It bridges the gap in the relationship that exists between the following two disciplines: space weather and telecommunication system performance. There are a number of books that address one of the two disciplines in some detail, but only merely mention the other as an afterthought. In this book the author has married the two disciplines so that the readership can see the connections more clearly. All professional and academic researchers in the fields of telecommunication science and technology ; military and civilian telecommunication ; applied aeronomy and ionospheric physics ; and space-weather will find this book essential. It will also be of interest to professionals and researchers in the fields of solar and magnetospheric physics.

Sensing Issues in Civil Structural Health Monitoring
Civil infrastructure systems are generally the most expensive assets in any country, and these systems are deteriorating at an alarming rate. In addition, these systems have a long service life in comparison to most other commercial products. active research in the design of new highway bridges is focused on a number of specialty areas, including the replacement of steel reinforcing bars in concrete deck slabs by randomly distributed low-modulus fibers, and the replacement of steel prestressing cables for concrete components by tendons comprising super-strong fibers. Research is also being conducted on using FRPs to repair and strengthen existing structures.
Security-first compliance for small businesses
Organizations of all sizes struggle to secure their data in a constantly evolving digital landscape. Expanding digital footprints and the rapid expansion of cloud strategies arising from the COVID-19 pandemic increase an organization's attack surface. When combined with limited resources caused by the cybersecurity skills gap, securing small and mid-sized business IT infrastructures becomes more complicated. With limited staffing and budgetary restrictions, small businesses need to create cost-effective, security driven programs that protect data while also meeting increasingly stringent compliance requirements. This book bridges the gap between complex technical language and business objectives to create a security-first review of the security and compliance landscapes. Starting from the premise that "with security comes compliance," this book starts by defining "security-first," then walking readers through the process of creating a holistic security and compliance program.
