Multiple pregnancy
Multiple pregnancy affects 0.9-3.1% of births worldwide. Prevalence rates vary significantly due to differences in dizygotic twinning rates and use of assisted reproduction. Both maternal and fetal/neonatal complications are more common in multiple compared to singleton pregnancies, and there are specific problems for the fetuses related to monochorionicity. Multiple pregnancies require specialised and individualised care. Complicated multiple pregnancies should be managed in a tertiary care centre where there is additional expertise, such as the laser ablation needed to treat monochorionic monozygotic pregnancies with conjoined circulations. Cornerstones of management in pregnancy are the need for accurate fetal measurement to optimise dating of gestational age, and documentation of chorionicity. High-level ultrasound expertise is needed. The mothers need frequent assessment to detect hypertension and anemia, and early identification and management of preterm labour.
Minimally Invasive Tumor Therapies
In the age of the World Wide Web, informed patients continue to surprise oncologists with detailed questions about popular tumor therapies. Although minimally invasive tumor therapies (MITT) have become daily clinical practice for palliative treatment of liver tumors, the acceptance of these palliative modalities still varies enormously. In addition, promising results have been published for in situ ablation of lung metastases, bone tumors, and renal cell carcinoma. This book gives an up-to-date overview of the popular techniques and clinical results of MITT, with a clarification of the actual indications including the size, tumor entities, and clinical benefits. Interventional Radiology in Pain Treatment

Cognitive Supervision for Robot-Assisted Minimally Invasive Laser Surgery
This thesis lays the groundwork for the automatic supervision of the laser incision process, which aims to complement surgeons’ perception of the state of tissues and enhance their control over laser incisions. The research problem is formulated as the estimation of variables that are representative of the state of tissues during laser cutting. Prior research in this area leveraged numerical computation methods that bear a high computational cost and are not straightforward to use in a surgical setting. This book proposes a novel solution to this problem, using models inspired by the ability of experienced surgeons to perform precise and clean laser cutting. It shows that these new models, which were extracted from experimental data using statistical learning techniques, are straightforward to use in a surgical setup, allowing greater precision in laser-based surgical procedures.

With the advent of new technologies, offering a three-dimensional reconstruction of cardiac anatomy and generating colour-coded maps, the approach to the complex world of electrophysiology is changing: A three-dimensional colour-coded electroanatomic map of a left atrium could be a precise and self-explanatory representation based on intracavitary signals, on which correct diagnosis is made and successul ablation is performed. As expected, this makes the difference especially in cases exhibiting complex arrhythmias (atypical atrial flutters, postsurgical arrhythmias), in which the task could be really tough.
