Integrated Science in Digital Age ; ICIS 2019
The ICIS 2019 received roughly 50 contributions, by authors hailing from six countries. Following a peer-review process, the Scientific Committee – a multidisciplinary group of 110 experts from 38 countries around the globe – selected roughly 60% for publication. The main topics covered include: Artificial Intelligence Research; Digital Business & Finance; Educational Sciences; Health Management Informatics; Public Administration in the Digital Age; and Social Problem-solving.

Welcome to the proceedings of PATMOS 2006, the 16th in a series of international workshops. PATMOS 2006 was organized by LIRMM with CAS technical - sponsorship and CEDA sponsorship. Over the years, the PATMOS workshop has evolved into an important European event, where researchers from both industry and academia discuss and investigate the emerging challenges in future and contemporary applications, design methodologies, and tools required for the development of upcoming generations of integrated circuits and systems. The technical program of PATMOS 2006 contained state-of-the-art technical contributions, three invited talks, a special session on hearing-aid design, and an embedded tutorial. The technical program focused on timing, performance and power consumption, as well as architectural aspects with particular emphasis on modeling, design, characterization, analysis and optimization in the nanometer era. The Technical Program Committee, with the assistance of additional expert reviewers, selected the 64 papers presented at PATMOS. The papers were organized into 11 technical sessions and 3 poster sessions. As is always the case with the PATMOS workshops, full papers were required, and several reviews were received per manuscript.

Since its start in 1990, the IPCO conference series (held under the auspices of theMathematicalProgrammingSociety)hasbecomeanimportantforumforthe presentation of recent results in Integer Programming and Combinatorial Op- mization. This volume compiles the papers presented at IPCO XI, the eleventh conference in this series, held June 8–10, 2005, at the Technische Universit¨ at Berlin. The high interest in this conference series is evident in the large number of submissions. For IPCO XI, 119 extended abstracts of up to 10 pages were submitted. During its meeting on January 29–30, 2005, the Program Committee carefully selected 34 contributions for presentation in non-parallel sessions at the conference. The ?nal choices were not easy at all, since, due to the limited number of time slots, many very good papers could not be accepted. During the selection process the contributions were refereed according to the standards of refereed conferences. As a result of this procedure, you have in your hands a volume that contains papers describing high-quality research e?orts. The page limit for contributions to this proceedings volume was set to 15. You may ?nd full versions of the papers in scienti?c journals in the near future. We thank all the authors who submitted papers. Furthermore, the Program Committee is indebted to the many reviewers who, with their speci?c expertise, helped a lot in making the decisions.
Insect Conservation and Islands
A series of original papers and reviews dealing with the peculiarities of island insects and their conservation in many parts of the world. Contributions to this special issue of Journal of Insect Conservation range from biogeographical analyses andecological features of island insects and their evolution to the variety of concerns for their wellbeing, and practical conservation through a variety of, sometimes novel, approaches. It provides a competently written, balanced and differentiated state-of-the-art insight into the relation between innovations and sustainability from the perspective of evolutionary economics. The scope of the contributions encompasses the technological, social, organizational, and political dimensions of the topic. Each article is discussed by a competently written commentary providing a critical evaluation and relating it to the relevant literature. Particular interest lies on the issues of steering opportunities and path formation capabilities by decentralized agents, or governmental institutions from the viewpoint of evolutionary economics.

Informing Digital Futures : Strategies for Citizen Engagement
In the present digital revolution we often seem trapped in a Kafkaesque world of technological advances, some desired, some disliked or even feared, which we cannot influence but must accept. This book discusses the urgent need to redress this situation. All papers were divided into eight sessions: digital media watermarking, steganalysis, digital forensics, steganography, software watermarking, security and privacy, anonymity, and data hiding in unusual content. This year, the workshop included a one-hour rump session that offered an opportunity to the delegates to share their work in progress and other brief but interesting contributions.
Influences of the IEA Civic and Citizenship Education Studies : Practice, Policy, and Research Across Countries and Regions
This book identifies the multiple ways that IEA’s studies of civic and citizenship education have contributed to national and international educational discourse, research, policymaking, and practice. The IEA International Civic and Citizenship Education Study (ICCS), first conducted in 2009, was followed by a second cycle in 2016. The project was linked to the earlier IEA Civic Education Study (CIVED 1999, 2000). IEA’s ICCS remains the only large-scale international study dedicated to formal and informal civic and citizenship education in school. It continues to make substantial contributions to understanding the nature of the acquired civic knowledge, attitudes, and participatory skills. It also discusses in-depth how a wide range of countries prepare their young people for citizenship in changing political, social, and economic circumstances. The next cycle of ICCS is planned for 2022.
Inevitable Aging? : Contributions to Evolutionary-Demographic Theory
Aging is inevitable: this is gerontological dogma. And humans do inevitably grow old, which is probably why it seems so unlikely to us that other forms of life could escape aging. Escaping aging is not escaping death. Death is an inherent part of life, and it can strike any time. But the question is whether death necessarily becomes more likely as life proceeds. And it does not. The theoretical results in this monograph indicate that life provides alternative strategies. While some organisms will deteriorate over adult ages, for others mortality appears to fall or remain constant, at least over an extended period of life after reproductive maturity. This is empirically observed especially for species that keep on growing during adult ages. Perhaps the diversity of aging matches the diversity of life. My thesis, the central insight of this monograph, is: to deeply understand why some species age it is necessary to understand why other species do not.

University is not for everyone, but a university should be for everyone. To a certain extent, the choice not to participate in higher education should be respected given that there are other avenues and reasons to participate in education and employment that are culturally, socially and/or economically important for society. Those who choose to pursue higher education should do so knowing that there are multiple pathways into higher education and, once there, appropriate support is provided for a successful transition.
