Understanding 3D Animation Using Maya

Many animators and designers would like to supplement their Maya learning with a less-technical, more helpful book. This self-study manual is both a general guide for understanding 3-D computer graphics and a specific guide for learning the fundamentals of Maya: workspace, modeling, animation, shading, lighting, and rendering. Understanding 3-D Animation Using Maya covers these fundamentals in each chapter so that readers gain increasingly detailed knowledge. After an initial 'concepts' section launches each chapter, hands-on tutorials are provided, as well as a chapter project that progressively adds newly learned material and culminates in the final animated short.

Underdetermination : An Essay on Evidence and the Limits of Natural Knowledge

Underdetermination. An Essay on Evidence and the Limits of Natural Knowledge is a wide-ranging study of the thesis that scientific theories are systematically "underdetermined" by the data they account for. This much-debated thesis is a thorn in the side of scientific realists and methodologists of science alike and of late has been vigorously attacked. After analyzing the epistemological and ontological ascpects of the controversy in detail, and reviewing pertinent logical facts and selected scientific cases, Bonk carefully examines the merits of arguments for and against the thesis. Along the way, he investigates methodological proposals and recent theories of confirmation, which promise to discriminate among observationally equivalent theories on evidential grounds. He explores sympathetically but critically W.V.Quine and H.Putnam’s arguments for the thesis, the relationship between indeterminacy and underdetermination, and possibilities for a conventionalist solution.

Uncertainty, Rationality, and Agency

This book is about Rational Agents, which can be humans, players in a game, software programs or institutions. Typically, such agents are uncertain about the state of affairs or the state of other agents, and under this partial information they have to decide on which action to take next. This book collects chapters that give formal accounts not only of Uncertainty, Rationality and Agency, but also of their interaction: what are rational criteria to accept certain beliefs, or to modify them; how can degrees of beliefs guide an agent in making decisions; why distinguish between practical and epistemic rationality when agents try to coordinate; what must be common beliefs between agents about each other's rationality in order to act rationally themselves; can an agent assign probabilities to planned actions; how to formalise assumptions about a rational speaker in a conversation obeying Gricean maxims.

Turbulent Shear Layers in Supersonic Flow

A good understanding of turbulent compressible flows is essential to the design and operation of high-speed vehicles. Such flows occur, for example, in the external flow over the surfaces of supersonic aircraft, and in the internal flow through the engines. Our ability to predict the aerodynamic lift, drag, propulsion and maneuverability of high-speed vehicles is crucially dependent on our knowledge of turbulent shear layers, and our understanding of their behavior in the presence of shock waves and regions of changing pressure. Turbulent Shear Layers in Supersonic Flow provides a comprehensive introduction to the field, and helps provide a basis for future work in this area. Wherever possible we use the available experimental work, and the results from numerical simulations to illustrate and develop a physical understanding of turbulent compressible flows.

Tumor Ablation : Principles and Practice

Sets the standard and is one of the first comprehensive references on the subject. The editors, world-renowned in the field, have assembled recognized international authorities in their areas of expertise. The book is organized into six main sections: Introduction to Ablation, Operations, Imaging, Methods, Organ System Tumor Ablation, and Perspectives. This breadth of coverage is coupled with an easy-to-read format that facilitates the application of these new clinical techniques. Practitioners in specialties other than radiology, including internal medicine, oncology, anesthesiology, and surgery, add valuable insights that complement the book’s well-rounded approach. In addition, a chapter that depicts the cancer journey by patients and their families provides a unique perspective for the reader. More than 380 photographs and diagrams clearly illustrate key concepts. The skillful combination of depth and practicality makes this text essential for anyone who is involved with and wants to expand their knowledge in the ablation field.

Tumeurs endocrines thoraciques et digestives = Thoracic and digestive endocrine tumors

There is little literature on digestive and thoracic endocrine tumors. The complexity of their management, often entrusted to different specialists, the multiplicity of terminologies used to designate them, the diversity of their locations and their characterization explain this lack of work. A synthesis of clinical knowledge relating to these pathologies was therefore necessary; requirement reinforced by the arrival of new imaging techniques and new treatments. This book takes the gamble of a transversal approach to the study of these tumors while emphasizing their common characteristics; once the clinical and prognostic characteristics have been stated, the authors study the different therapeutic weapons.

Tubazioni in polietilene per il trasporto di acqua : Manuale per la progettazione, la posa e la gestione sicura delle reti idriche = Polyethylene pipes for water transport : A manual for the design, installation and safe management of water networks

Gathers, integrates, and makes available to industry professionals the extensive technical knowledge available regarding the use of polyethylene in water networks. Polyethylene, an extremely versatile material resistant to corrosion and scale formation, flexible, lightweight, and easily weldable, offers significant performance and cost advantages in the construction of water networks. The manual provides a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of material characteristics, pipe design methods, installation techniques, joining methods, rehabilitation techniques for existing pipelines, and relevant product and certification standards. The manual was developed by Andrea Pavan, professor at the Polytechnic University of Milan and scientific director of the Plastics Testing Laboratory Foundation (POLI.lampol), with the assistance of Roberto Frassine, professor at the same Polytechnic.

Treatment Planning in Restorative Dentistry and Implant Prosthodontics

Treatment planning is commonly considered one of the most important phases of any dental treatment and vital for achieving successful long-term results. However, most dental schools do not offer courses exclusively designed for comprehensive planning, and comprehensive planning is rarely discussed at scientific meetings because it is considered a basic topic that practitioners should already understand. This knowledge gap leaves practicing clinicians with few options beyond using their own intuition to solve problems, which is highly unpredictable. Therefore, this book presents clinical guidelines for planning treatments in restorative dentistry and outlines a clear, objective, and simple thinking process that can be easily applied in daily practice, essentially providing the reader with a roadmap to be used as a reference from the very initial procedures until final restorative treatment.

Travel Writings on Asia : Curiosity, Identities, and Knowledge Across the East, c. 1200 to the Present

The book provides an analysis of human actors and their capacity to explore and conceptualise their own agency by being curious, gathering knowledge, and shaping identities in their travel reflections on Asia. Thus, the actors open windows across time to present a profound overview of diverse descriptions and constructions of Asia. The authors demonstrate that international and transnational history contributes to and benefits from analyses of national and local contexts that in turn enrich our understanding of transcultural encounters and experiences across time. The book proposes an actor-centred contextual approach to travel writing to recount meaningful constructions of Asia’s physical, political and spiritual landscapes. It offers comparative reflections on the patterns of encounter across Eurasia, where from the late medieval period an idea of civilisation was transculturally shared yet also constantly questioned and reframed. Tailored for academic and public discussions alike, this volume will be invaluable for both scholars of Global History and interested audiences to stimulate further discussions on the nature of global encounters in Asia

Transport and Town Planning : The City in Search of Sustainable Development

explores the possibilities of cities that are both more energy efficient and more respectful of the environment. Based on the observation that urban planning has been detrimentally affected by the compartmentalization of knowledge and practices, this book is conceived as a dialog between transport and urban planning on the one hand, and between engineering and social science on the other. Systemic analysis and a historical approach, integrating the teachings of the last two centuries, constitute at the methodological level the framework in which this dialog unfolds.
