Sensor Networks and Configuration : Fundamentals, Standards, Platforms, and Applications
Advances in networking influence many kinds of monitoring and control systems in the most dramatic way. Sensor network and configuration falls under the category of modern networking systems. Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) has emerged and caters to the need for real-world applications. Methodology and design of WSN represents a broad research topic with applications in many sectors such as industry, home, computing, agriculture, environment, and so on, based on the adoption of fundamental principles and the state-of-the-art technology. WSN has been preferred choice for the design and development of next generation monitoring and control systems. This book incorporates a selection of research and development papers. Its scope is on history and background, underlying design methodology, application domains and recent developments. The readers will be able to understand the underlying technology, philosophy, concepts, ideas, and principles, with regard to broader areas of sensor network. Aspects of sensor network in terms of basics, standardization, design process, practice, techniques, platforms, and experimental results have been presented in proper order.
Selective Sweep
Selective Sweep deals with the theory and practice of detection of recent adaptive evolution at the genomic level from the patterns of DNA polymorphism. Recent advances in genomic sequencing provide the background for analysis of polymorphic sites in large chromosomal regions or even in whole genome, thus providing the tool for effective identification of loci that are under strong pressure of positive selection. For this reason, the studies of selective sweep, which formerly were of interest mostly to evolutionists, have become widely recognized and appreciated by the large biological community involved in identification of the targets of selection during speciation, host/pathogen interactions, and resistance to chemical agents.
Selection Methods in Plant Breeding
Written for plant breeders, researchers and post-graduate students, this book provides a comprehensive review of the methods and underlying theoretical foundations used for selection in plant breeding programmes. The authors review basic elements of population and quantitative genetic theory, and consider in a unique way the tackling of the problems presented by soil heterogeneity and intergenotypic competition when selecting quantitative characters.
Selection and Breeding Programs in Aquaculture
Although aquaculture as a biological production system has a long history, systematic and efficient breeding programs to improve economically important traits in the farmed species have rarely been utilized until recently, except for salmonid species. This means that the majority of aquaculture production (more than 90 %) is based on genetically unimproved stocks. In farm animals the situation is vastly different: practically no terrestrial farm production is based on genetically unimproved and undomesticated populations. This difference between aquaculture and livestock production is in spite of the fact that the basic elements of breeding theory are the same for fish and shellfish as for farm animals. One possible reason for the difference is the complexity of reproductive biology in aquatic species, and special consideration needs to be taken in the design of breeding plans for these species. Since 1971 AKVAFORSK, has continuously carried out large scale breeding research projects with salmonid species, and during the latest 15 years also with a number of fresh water and marine species. Results from this work and the results from other institutions around the world have brought forward considerable knowledge, which make the development of efficient breeding programs feasible. The genetic improvement obtained in selection programs for fish and shellfish is remarkable and much higher than what has been achieved in terrestrial farm animals.
Selected papers on soil mechanics
This volume of selected papers by Professor A W Skempton is published to mark his 70th birthday on 4th June 1984. In making the selection of papers we aimed to show Skempton's breadth of interest and achievement int he general field of soil mechanics and to include papers that the practising engineer, research worker and student will find of value to have to hand. For the early papers the selection was influenced by a historical interest in addition to intrinsic merit.
Security in communication networks ; 4th International Conference, SCN 2004, Amalfi, Italy, September 8-10, 2004, Revised Selected Papers
The main topics included all technical aspects of data security, including : anonymity, authentication, block ciphers, complexity-based cryptography, cryptanalysis, digital signatures, distributed cryptography, hash functions, identifition, implementations, key distribution, privacy, public key encryption, threshold cryptography, and zero knowledge. The Program Committee, consisting of 21 members, considered 79 papers and selected 26 for presentation; one of them was withdrawn by the authors. These papers were selected on the basis of originality, quality and relevance to cryptography and security in communication networks. Due to the high number of submissions, paper selection was a di?cult and challenging task, and many good submissions had to be rejected. Each subm- sion was refereed by at least three reviewers and some had four reports or more.

Risk-sharing in the Pharmaceutical Industry : The Case of Out-licensing
The costs of developing a new drug have reached record levels in the pharmaceutical industry. As any failure of a new drug candidate can lead to significant losses, many pharmaceutical companies are looking for new approaches to reduce their exposure to R&D risks. In this context, the book deals with the topic of out-licensing as a novel form of risk-sharing collaborations. The phenomenon of out-licensing is illustrated by three major case studies of Novartis, Schering and Roche as well as several smaller case studies. In addition, the Noble Prize awarded economic theory of Adverse Selection is applied to analyze the topic theoretically. The gained insights allow identifying the critical parameters of out-licensing collaborations and thereby provide R&D managers with recommendations on how to conclude and manage this type of deals more effectively.

Reviews of Physiology Biochemistry and Pharmacolog
The eukaryotic translation machinery must recognize the site on a messenger RNA (mRNA) where decoding should begin and where it should end. The selection of the translation start site is generally given by the first AUG codon encoding the amino acid methionine. Dating initiation soluble translation initiation factors (eukaryotic translation initiation factors [eIFs] in eukaryotes and prokaryotic translation initiation factors [IFs] in prokaryotes) bind the mRNA, deliver the initiator Met-tRNA, and assemble to form a complete 80S ribosome from the 40S and 60S subunits. By progressing along the mRNA in the 5 -to-3 direction the ribosome decodes the information and translates it into the polypeptide chain. During this process, repeated delivery of amino-acyl tRNA (aa-tRNA) to the ribosome, peptide bond formation, movement of the mRNA, and the growing peptidyl-tRNA is mediated by both soluble elongation factors (eukaryotic translation elongation factors [eEFs] in euka- otes and prokaryotic translation elongation factors [EFs] in prokaryotes) and the activity of the ribosome. The ?nal step in the translation process occurs when one of the three t- mination codons occupies the ribosomal A-site. Translation comes to an end and soluble release factors (eukaryotic translation termination factors [eRFs] in eukaryotes and proka- otic translation termination factors [RFs] in prokaryotes) facilitate hydrolytical release of the polypeptide chain.
Responsible procurement : Leading the way to a sustainable tomorrow
Sustainability and procurement Sustainable sourcing Responsible sourcing Purchasing Category management Operating models ESG initiatives SDG initiatives Organizational transformation Sustainable supplier selection Sustainability targets Practitioner's Guide Supply Chain Management
Research Methodologies in Supply Chain Management
While supply chain management has risen to great prominence in recent year, there are hardly related developments in research methodologies. Yet, as supply chains cover more than one company, one central issue is how to collect and analyse data along the whole or relevant part of the supply chain. Within the 36 chapters 70 authors bring together a rich selection of theoretical and practical examples of how research methodologies are applied in supply chain management. The book contains papers on theoretical implications as well as papers on a range of key methods, such as modelling, surveys, case studies or action research. It will be of great interest to researchers in the area of supply chain management and logistics, but also to neighbouring fields, such as network management or global operations.
