This book also presents recent advances in stem cell and cell sheet tissue engineering technologies which have the potential to provide novel in vitro disease models and to generate regenerative paradigms for cardiac repair and regeneration
Ethics in Agriculture : An African Perspective
The role of biotechnology in African agriculture has become a contentious issue. The ethical issues in agriculture in Africa do not focus only on biotechnology. The role of nutrition in the persistence of HIV/AIDS is highly debated and sometimes controversial. Land-related issues also generate heated debates in communities and amongst policy-makers. The single core that runs through all of these and many other related issues is, what are ethically acceptable solutions to these problems? This book attempts, in simple, unambiguous terms, to discuss the most important issues in African agriculture that have an ethical thread.
Estimation of Willingness-to-Pay : Theory, Measurement, Application
To determine the willingness-to-pay (WTP) for products and/or services from a customer perspective is crucial for modern approaches to pricing. With the Price Estimation scene (PE scene) Christoph Breidert introduces a new method to estimate WTP. It works as an additional interview scene appended to conjoint analysis and offers the respondents a dynamically generated sequence of product choices with assigned prices.
ESR Spectroscopy in Membrane Biophysics
Membrane proteins offer the greatest challenge in structural biology, and there is an urgent need to develop and apply new biophysical methodologies that are able to generate detailed structural information. Among modern biophysical techniques, site-directed spin-labeling electron spin resonance (SDSL-ESR) appears to show the highest potential to further develop the field. The objective of this book is to provide in-depth information about new advances of SDSL-ESR in membrane biophysics, emphasizing recent developments in the application to membrane proteins.
EQ-5D value sets
For various reasons, cost benefit analysis is usually rejected in favour of cost-effectiveness or cost-utility analyses, often involving the estimation of the incremental cost per Quality Adjusted Life Year (QALY) gained (Drummond et al, 2005). The estimation of QALYs gained requires valuations for all relevant health states on a scale anchored at 1 = Full health and 0 = Dead. The EQ-5D is widely used in this context and a number of value sets are available for all the health states generated by the EQ-5D descriptive system. These can be readily applied to health outcomes measured as EQ-5D profiles. EQ-5D has become one of the valuation approaches recommended by several reimbursement authorities and academic bodies in European countries
Enzyme-Catalyzed Synthesis of Polymers
New polymers have been developed and "old" polymers have been generated using novel synthetic strategies. This book contains seven chapters that cover in great deatail the use of enzymes to synthesize a range of polymers. It also makes use of a large number of examples to summarize the salient features of the enzymatic reactions and resulting polymeric properties.
Entrepreneurial Strategy : Starting, Managing, and Scaling New Ventures
This book focuses on explaining differences amongst organizations regarding various attributes, forms, and outcomes. By focusing on the “how” of new venture creation and management to produce well-established organizations, the authors aim to increase our understanding of the antecedents of most management research assumptions. New ventures are the source of most newly created jobs generated in an economy, new industries and markets, innovative products and services, and new solutions to economic, social, and environmental problems. However, most management research assumes a well-established organization as the starting point of their theorizing.
Emerging Drugs in Sport
Offers a timely analysis of the new challenges posed by this phenomenon in the anti-doping community. The authors present the first comprehensive perspective on the rapidly shifting doping scenario and reflect on use, regulation, policy, and market structure of NPS used in sports. They highlight the challenges with the list of prohibited substances and methods in and out of competition. They also evaluate how methods to detect new drugs present an ongoing battle for doping control as they have to be adapted constantly. Topics covered within the chapters include: Contamination of Sports Supplements with Novel Psychoactive Substances Untested Supplement Use Among Athletes: An Overlooked Phenomenon? International Drug Control: Protecting the Health of the Athlete Analysis of New Chemical Entities in a Sport Context Emerging Drugs in Sport establishes a clear benchmark on the policy discussion, drawing from available evidence and sources, including athletes' personal experiences, to generate a fact-based resource that informs a research as well as wider audience.
Embedded and Ubiquitous Computing ; International Conference, EUC 2006, Seoul, Korea, August 1-4, 2006, Proceedings
Embedded and ubiquitous computing is an exciting new paradigm that p- vides computing and communication services all the time, everywhere. Now we can attach computing and communication devices to human bodies to mo- tor our health, embed computing chips into brains to cure memory losses, or make smart fabrics so they can change colors or generate heat.
Elliptic Theory and Noncommutative Geometry : Nonlocal Elliptic Operators
This comprehensive yet concise book deals with nonlocal elliptic differential operators, whose coefficients involve shifts generated by diffeomorophisms of the manifold on which the operators are defined. The main goal of the study is to relate analytical invariants (in particular, the index) of such elliptic operators to topological invariants of the manifold itself. This problem can be solved by modern methods of noncommutative geometry. This is the first and so far the only book featuring a consistent application of methods of noncommutative geometry to the index problem in the theory of nonlocal elliptic operators. Although the book provides important results, which are in a sense definitive, on the above-mentioned topic, it contains all the necessary preliminary material, such as C*-algebras and their K-theory or cyclic homology.
Elevating video content creation with ai assistance = ارتقاء إنشاء محتوى الفيديو بمساعدة الذكاء الاصطناعي
We developed an AI Assistant equipped with features such as description crafting, title generation, keyword extraction, image captioning, clickbait detection, and sentiment analysis. To achieve these functionalities, we proposed a model for generating video descriptions using ResNet50 as a feature extractor and a LSTM network with an attention mechanism as a sequence generator, achieving a BLEU-1 score of 0.907 and a ROUGE-L score of 0.645. For keyword extraction, we utilized Sentence Transformer to identify strategically relevant keywords from the generated descriptions. For title generation, we fine-tuned the BART model, achieving a ROUGE-L score of 0.45. For clickbait detection, we used SVC classifier with linear kernel and TF-IDF vectorization for feature extraction, resulting in 96% accuracy. Our sentiment analysis model using a CNN-LSTM architecture achieved 80% accuracy in analyzing comments on videos. For image captioning, we employed a feature extractor with a CNN layer followed by an LSTM model, achieving a BLEU-1 score of 0.53. Our platform empowers creators by simplifying complex tasks and offering deeper audience engagement insights, making it a powerful tool in the evolving digital content creation.

The last part contains more than 100 practical, elaborate case studies
Effective Resource Management in Manufacturing Systems : Optimization Algorithms for Production Planning
Effective Resource Management in Manufacturing Systems aims to provide robust methods for achieving effective resource allocation and to solve related problems that occur daily and often generate cost overruns, specifically focusing on problems like resource levelling, sizing of machines and production layouts, cost optimization in production planning and scheduling. This approach is based on providing quantitative methods, covering both mathematical programming and algorithms, leading to high quality solutions for the analysed problems. Details of extensive experimentation is provided for the proposed techniques to put them in a practical perspective, so that, on the one hand, the reader can reproduce them, and, on the other hand, it appears clear how they can be implemented in real scenarios.
Econometric Analysis of Count Data
The book provides graduate students and researchers with an up-to-date survey of statistical and econometric techniques for the analysis of count data, with a focus on conditional distribution models. Proper count data probability models allow for rich inferences, both with respect to the stochastic count process that generated the data, and with respect to predicting the distribution of outcomes. The book starts with a presentation of the benchmark Poisson regression model. Alternative models address unobserved heterogeneity, state dependence, selectivity, endogeneity, underreporting, and clustered sampling. Testing and estimation is discussed from frequentist and Bayesian perspectives. Finally, applications are reviewed in fields such as economics, marketing, sociology, demography, and health sciences. The fifth edition contains several new topics, including copula functions, Poisson regression for non-counts, additional semi-parametric methods, and discrete factor models. Other sections have been reorganized, rewritten, and extended.
Early Nutrition and its Later Consequences : New Opportunities; Perinatal Programming of Adult Health - EC Supported Research
Health problems such as hypertension, tendency to diabetes, obesity, blood lipids, vascular disease, bone health, behaviour and learning and longevity may be ‘imprinted’ during early life. This process is defined as ‘programming’ whereby a nutritional stimulus operating at a critical, sensitive period of pre and postnatal life imprints permanent effects on the structure, physiology and metabolism. For this reason, academics and industry set-up the EC supported Scientific Workshop -Early Nutrition and its Later Consequences: New Opportunities. The prime objective of the Workshop was to generate a sound exchange of the latest scientific developments within the field of early nutrition to look for opportunities for new preventive health concepts. Further, a closer look was taken at the development of food applications which could provide (future) mothers and infants with improved nutrition that will ultimately lead to better future health. The Workshop was organised by the Dept. of Pediatrics, University of Munich, Germany in collaboration with the Danone Institutes and the Infant Nutrition Cluster, a collaboration of three large research projects funded by the EU.
Dynamics of Flexible Multibody Systems : Rigid Finite Element Method
A new approach is presented for modelling multi-body systems, which constitutes a substantial enhancement of the Rigid Finite Element method. The new approach is based on homogeneous transformations and joint coordinates, and it yields the advantage that equations of motion are automatically generated for systems consisting of alternate rigid and flexible links. Apart from its simple physical interpretation and easy computer implementation, the method is also valuable for educational purposes since it impressively illustrates the impact of mechanical features on the mathematical model. This novel modelling approach is then applied to systems such as offshore-cranes and telescopic rapiers.
Dynamic pricing and automated resource allocation for complex information services : Reinforcement learning and combinatorial auctions
This book develops allocation mechanisms that aim to ensure an efficient resource allocation in modern IT-services. The author presents two methods, both of which using the users’ willingness-to-pay to control the allocation process. The author generates a method to calculate dynamic resource prices.
Drug Targets in Kinetoplastid Parasites
The book contains 12 chapters contributed by eminent scientists working in this field. The articles deal mainly with two aspects: visual identification of targets and identification of therapeutic agents.Several targets like kDNA replication machinery, purine salvage pathway, purine and pyrimidine biosynthetic pathway, histone deacetylase, DNA topoisomerases, membrane transporter proteins, glycoproteins and glycolipids are discussed in this book. Since current treatments for kinetoplastid parasitic diseases are far from ideal, there is an urgent and genuine need to develop newer compounds as antiparasitic drug candidates. Therefore evelopment of some lead compounds against these parasites as well as drug resistance are also included in this book. Moreover the vast amount of information generated after publication of the "Trytrip" genome sequence now makes possible several new approaches for target identification and discovery of therapeutic agents. This book is an outcome of the contributions of many scientists working in this important area.
Drug residues in animal products
The use of veterinary drugs in food-producing animals has the potential to generate residues in animal derived products (meat, milk, eggs and honey) and poses a health hazard to the consumer. There are many factors influencing the occurrence of residues in animal products such as drug's properties and their pharmacokinetic characteristics, physicochemical or biological processes of animals and their products. The most likely reason for drug residues might be due to improper drug usage and failure to keep the withdrawal period...
Drug discovery with privileged building Blocks : Tactics in medicinal chemistry
Drug Discovery with Privileged Building Blocks traces back PharmaBlock’s founding philosophy of designing privileged building blocks. High-quality building blocks are crucial not only to biological activities of different molecules but also to ADMET properties, which eventually will impact the success rate of drug discovery projects. A thorough study of how building blocks perform in drug molecules and a regular analysis of new building block structures in the latest researches have proven to be a fruitful strategy to generate novel building blocks. Using this strategy, PharmaBlock has supplied the drug industry with a great number of building blocks, which are increasingly being adopted by drug hunters, and these are identified in this book.
