Robot Vision ; 2nd International Workshop, RobVis 2008, Auckland, New Zealand, February 18-20, 2008. Proceedings
obot vision (or, more general, robotics) is a fast-growing discipline, already taught as a dedicated teaching program at university level. The term “robot vision” addresses any autonomous behavior of a technical system supported by visual sensoric information. While robot vision focusses on the vision process, visual robotics is more directed toward control and automatization. In practice, however, both fields strongly interact
Robot navigation from nature : Simultaneous localisation, mapping, and path planning based on Hippocampal models
This book describes the development of a robot mapping and navigation system inspired by models of the neural mechanisms underlying spatial navigation in the rodent hippocampus. Computational models of animal navigation systems have traditionally had limited performance when implemented on robots. The aim of the work was to determine the extent to which hippocampal models can be used to provide a robot with functional mapping and navigation capabilities in real world environments. The focus of the research was on achieving practical robot performance, rather than maintaining biological plausibility.

Rigid Body Dynamics Algorithms
It explains how to model a rigid-body system and how to analyze it, and it presents the most comprehensive collection of the best rigid-body dynamics algorithms to be found in a single source. The use of spatial vector notation greatly reduces the volume of algebra which allows systems to be described using fewer equations and fewer quantities. It also allows problems to be solved in fewer steps, and solutions to be expressed more succinctly. In addition algorithms are explained simply and clearly, and are expressed in a compact form. The use of spatial vector notation facilitates the implementation of dynamics algorithms on a computer: shorter, simpler code that is easier to write, understand and debug, with no loss of efficiency.

Reuse Based Methodologies and Tools in the Design of Analog and Mixed-Signal Integrated Circuits
Reuse Based Methodologies and Tools in the Design of Analog and Mixed-Signal Integrated Circuits features a very detailed, tutorial, and in-depth coverage of all issues and must-have properties of reusable AMS blocks, as well as a thorough description of the methods and tools necessary to implement them. For the first time, this has been done hierarchically, covering one by one the different stages of the design flow, allowing us to examine how the reusable block yields its benefits, both in design time and correct performance.
Retargetable Processor System Integration into Multi-Processor System-on-Chip Platforms
In Retargetable Processor System Integration into Multi-Processor System-on-Chip Platforms, such originally independent approaches are combined in order to enable the development of highly optimized programmable platforms. The first chapters of this book summarize the state of the art in all three involved fields separately: general system level design, communication modeling, and processor modeling. The main chapters then present a methodology and the associated tooling for enabling design space exploration as well as a successive refinement flow for the design of optimized MP-SoCs with a high degree of automation.

Comprises all the single courses given as part of the First Summer School on Process Mining, PMSS 2022, which was held in Aachen, Germany, during July 4-8, 2022. The 17 chapters presented in this volume were organized in the following topical sections: introduction; process discovery; conformance checking; data preprocessing; process enhancement and monitoring; assorted process mining topics; industrial perspective and applications; and closing.
Process Automation Handbook : A Guide to Theory and Practice
The handbook focuses on the knowledge needed to cope with the vast majority of process control and automation situations. In doing so, a number of sensible balances have been carefully struck between breadth and depth, theory and practice, classical and modern, technology and technique, information and understanding. A thorough grounding is provided for every topic. If more detailed information is required, the reader is referred to more specialised texts in the knowledge that he or she has been provided with a sound platform to ask the right questions and understand the answers. Process Automation Handbook will be of value to any engineer actively concerned with process control and automation in the chemical and process industries and final-year undergraduate and postgraduate students studying process control.

Adheres to the vision that in the future compelling user experiences will be key differentiating benefits of products and services. Evaluating the user experience plays a central role, not only during the design process, but also during regular usage: for instance a video recorder that recommends TV programs that fit your current mood, a product that measures your current level of relaxation and produces advice on how to balance your life, or a module that alerts a factory operator when he is getting drowsy.

Practical Problems in VLSI Physical Design Automation
Practical Problems in VLSI Physical Design Automation contains problems and solutions related to various well-known algorithms used in VLSI physical design automation. Dr. Lim believes that the best way to learn new algorithms is to walk through a small example by hand. This knowledge will greatly help understand, analyze, and improve some of the well-known algorithms. His vision in this book is to see the students realize that the learning curve is not so steep after all.
Power-Aware Architecting : for data-dominated applications
The task of the system architect is to take the correct early decisions despite the uncertainties. Power-Aware Architecting provides a systematic way to support the system architect in this job. Therefore, an iterative system-level design approach is defined where iterations are based on fast and accurate estimations or predictions of area, performance and energy consumption. This method is illustrated with a concrete real life example of multi-carrier communication. This book is the result of a Ph.D. thesis, which is part of the UbiCom project at Delft University of Technology. I strongly recommend it to any engineer, expert or specialist, who is interested in designing embedded systems-on-a-chip.
Pneumatic Drives : System Design, Modelling and Control
It bridges the gap between classical descriptions of pneumatic systems in terms of their steady-state behaviour and the wish of design engineers to test their design before setting up the actual hardware. The book covers the whole range of today’s technology for pneumatic drives. Starting with a wide selection of linear actuators – among them standard and rodless cylinders, bellows and diaphragm cylinders –, semi-rotatory drives and air motors are described in detail. Standard directional control valves, analogue valves as well as pressure control valves are covered, including their design, application and modelling. Several control schemes and the necessary converters like solenoids or piezoelectric actuators are presented.
