Micrometeorites and the Mysteries of Our Origins
This book relates an attempt to decrypt the still-obscure first billion years of history of the young Earth, during a cataclysmic period during which our planet was heavily bombarded by bodies ranging in size from that of Mars to 0.1 mm sized tiny micrometeorites. It was thus found that micrometeorites played an essential role in the formation of the post-lunar atmosphere. They also provided a surprisingly large diversity of reactions in the organic prebiotic chemistry required for the birth of life on our blue planet. The author presents a wide-ranging review of the type of knowledge required to decrypt this history, which provides extensive background information from astronomy, planetary dynamics, planetology, astrobiology and earth sciences. This book will appeal to both the scientist and the general reader. It will be a source of material for lectures, and possibly new investigations, in these fields.

Methods in Nonlinear Analysis
Nonlinear analysis has developed rapidly in the last three decades. Theories, techniques and results in many different branches of mathematics have been combined in solving nonlinear problems. This book collects and reorganizes up-to-date materials scattered throughout the literature from the methodology point of view, and presents them in a systematic way. During recent years this conference has tried to place special emphasis on the practical aspects of information security, and since it passed from being an international workshop to being an international conference in 2001, it has become one of the most relevant forums at which researchers meet and discuss emerging security challenges and solutions. Advised by the ISC Steering Committee, and in order to provide students with more opportunities for publication, ISC 2005 accepted extra student papers - sides the regular papers. The initiative was very well accepted by the young sector of the scienti?c community, and we hope that the success of this idea will remainfornextISCevents. Another important factor for the success of ISC2005 was that selected papers in the proceedings will be invited for submission to a special issue of the International Journal of Information Security. The result was an incredible response to the call for papers; we received 271 submissions, the highest since ISC events started. It goes without saying that the paper selection process was more competitive and di?cult than ever before — only 33 regular papers were accepted, plus 5 student papers for a special student session.

This volume, LNCS 3961, contains the papers selected from those presented at the International Conference on Information Networking 2006 (ICOIN 2006), held in Sendai, Japan. ICOIN 2006 constituted the 20th Anniversary of ICOIN. This year's conference program mainly focused on the field of ubiquitous and overlay networks, and on technology for ad hoc and sensor networks, mobile networks, transport networks, QoS and resource management, network security, peer-to-peer and overlay networks, resource management, and their applications. In response to the call for papers, 468 papers were submitted by authors from 23 different countries from Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas. Each paper was evaluated by two or three internationally known experts to assure the excellence of the papers presented at ICOIN 2006. To keep within the conference topics, some excellent papers had to be rejected to our regret. After extensive reviews, 141 papers were chosen for presentation in 25 technical sessions. Furthermore, another review of these papers was performed during presentation, and finally 98 papers were selected for printing in LNCS 3961. We expect this will add to the excellence of ICOIN 2006. The papers in LNCS 3961 are categorized into 8 sections: Mobile and Ubiquitous Networking, Ad Hoc and Sensor Networks, Advanced Networking, QoS and Resource Management, Network and Transport Protocols, Network Security, Applications and Services, and Peer-to-Peer and Overlay Networks, ranging from information networking to applications in next generation networks.

Influences of the IEA Civic and Citizenship Education Studies : Practice, Policy, and Research Across Countries and Regions
This book identifies the multiple ways that IEA’s studies of civic and citizenship education have contributed to national and international educational discourse, research, policymaking, and practice. The IEA International Civic and Citizenship Education Study (ICCS), first conducted in 2009, was followed by a second cycle in 2016. The project was linked to the earlier IEA Civic Education Study (CIVED 1999, 2000). IEA’s ICCS remains the only large-scale international study dedicated to formal and informal civic and citizenship education in school. It continues to make substantial contributions to understanding the nature of the acquired civic knowledge, attitudes, and participatory skills. It also discusses in-depth how a wide range of countries prepare their young people for citizenship in changing political, social, and economic circumstances. The next cycle of ICCS is planned for 2022.
