Widening Access to Education as Social Justice : Essays in Honor of Michael Omolewa
Universal access to education, a gage of social justice, is much more than a right—it is an open door to freedom: the freedom to initiate, to act and to take one’s own destiny in hand. True, access to education has progressed considerably in recent years, notably to the benefit of women who, nonetheless, still represent two-thirds of illiterate adults. But the strides made conceal widening disparities, with some countries still suffering from a combination of backwardness and inequality. This means that we must step up our efforts. This book, issued in honor of the President of the General Conference of UNESCO, Michael Abiola Omolewa, who has devoted his life to the cause of education, is a major contribution to helping women and men of goodwill, who must more than ever fight to secure for the have-nots of this world the right to education.
What is Drug Addiction?
Drug addiction is A socially common term and medically means Dependence that is a complex neurobiological disease that requires integrated treatment of the mind, body, and spirit. It is considered a brain disease because drugs change the brain, they change its structure and how it works. Without treatment, these brain changes can be long-lasting, Addiction is chronic, progressive, and if left untreated, it can be fatal. Individuals struggling with drug addiction often feel as though they cannot function normally without their drugs. This can lead to a wide range of issues that impact addictive daily life, personal relationships, and overall health. Over time, these serious side effects can be progressive, and if left untreated, it will lead to death.
Wetlands and Natural Resource Management
We have given the organizers of these symposia the opportunity to produce one chapter for these books with the integrated content of their symposium. This has resulted in 25 chapters, of which 13 are included in Volume 190 under the heading “Wetlands and Natural Resource Management”and 12 in Volume 191 under the heading “Wetlands: Functi- ing,Biodiversity Conservation and Restoration”. With these books,we had the aim to summarize the most important recent scientific results in wetland science, their applications in wetland and water resource management and their implications for the development of global, national and regional policies in the perspective of the ever-progressing deterioration of natural wetlands and the major impacts that future climate change will have.
Wellbeing and devolution : Reframing the role of government in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland
In this book, Wallace offers a practical and balanced analysis of the evolution of wellbeing as a policy narrative and framework in the devolved nations of the UK. This timely contribution is relevant to anyone interested in the emergent idea of ‘wellbeing’ beyond our borders too. This book explores, for the first time, why each set their goal as improving wellbeing and how they balance the core elements of societal wellbeing (economic, social and environmental outcomes). Do the frameworks represent a genuine attempt to think differently about how devolved government can plan and organise public services? And if so, what early indications are there of the impact is this having on people’s lives?
