Teleradiology

It featured the presen- tion of 12 regular papers, focused on major aspects of e-business solutions. In addition, the workshop invited 2 industrial speakers to share their vision, insight and experience with the audience. The workshop would not have been a success without help from so many people. A total of 90 papers were selected, after peer review, for this volume. Teaching Tolerance in a Globalized World

The IEA’s International Civic and Citizenship Study (ICCS) is a comparative research program designed to investigate the ways in which young people are prepared to undertake their roles as citizens, and provides a wealth of data permitting not only comparison between countries but also comparisons between schools within countries, and students within countries. Advanced analytical methods provide insights into relationships between students’ attitudes towards cultural diversity and the characteristics of the students themselves, their families, their teachers and school principals. The rich diversity of educational and cultural contexts in the 38 countries who participated in ICCS 2009 are also acknowledged and addressed.
Teaching about Technology : An Introduction to the Philosophy of Technology for Non-philosophers
Teaching about technology, at all levels of education, can only be done properly when those who teach have a clear idea about what it is that they teach. In other words: they should be able to give a decent answer to the question: what is technology? In the philosophy of technology that question is explored. Therefore the philosophy of technology is a discipline with a high relevance for those who teach about technology. Literature in this field, though, is not always easy to access for non-philosophers. This book provides an introduction to the philosophy of technology for such people. It offers a survey of the current state-of-affairs in the philosophy of technology, and also discusses the relevance of that for teaching about technology. The book can be used in introductory courses on the philosophy of technology in teacher education programs, engineering education programs, and by individual educators that are interested in the intriguing phenomenon of technology that is so important in our contemporary society.
Targeted cancer therapy in biomedical engineering
Highlights the role of Biomedical Engineering (BME) used in diagnosis (e.g., body scanners) and treatment (radiation therapy and minimal access surgery in order to prevent various diseases). In recent years, an important progress has been made in the expansion of biomedical microdevices which has a major role in diagnosis and therapy of cancer. When fighting cancer, efficacy and speed are of the utmost importance. A recently developed microfluidic chip has enabled a breakthrough in testing the efficacy of specialized cancer drugs. Effective cancer-targeting therapies will require both passive and active targeting strategies and a thorough understanding of physiologic barriers to targeted drug delivery. Targeted cancer treatments in development and the new combinatorial approaches show promise for improving targeted anticancer drug delivery and improving treatment outcomes.

Cancer is known as abnormal growth of cells due to genetic mutations associated with other factors such as smocking, overweight, physical inactivity and changing reproductive pattern. Each mutation drives a wave of cellular multiplication associated with gradual increases in tumor size, disorganization and malignancy. Cancer treatment are invasive, painful, expensive and often creating long term negative side effect. The most common cancer treatment are chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgery, hormone therapy, stem cell transplant and the modest one is targeted cancer therapy. Target cancer therapies are drugs or other substances that block the growth and spread of cancer by interfering with specific molecules that are involved in the growth, progression and spread of cancer. Targeted therapies are currently focus of much anticancer drug development, they are cornerstone of precision medicine, a form of medicine that uses information about person’s genes and proteins to prevent, diagnose and treat disease.
