Recovery, Analysis, and Identification of Commingled Human Remains
Mass fatality events can result in the intermixing, or commingling, of human remains. Commingling of human remains presents an added challenge to all phases of the forensic process. As the number of individuals increases, so does the complexity of the forensic investigation and the skills needed for case resolution. In Recovery, Analysis, and Identification of Commingled Human Remains, top professionals illustrate successful techniques for sorting and determining the number of individuals, the role of DNA, ethical considerations and data management. Instrumental to the forensic community, Recovery, Analysis, and Identification of Commingled Human Remains provides case examples and an in depth review of experiences, methods, and research related to commingling.
Recovering Informal Learning : Wisdom, Judgement and Community
Theories and practices of learning have been dominated by the requirements of formal learning. Quite simply this book seeks to persuade readers through philosophical argument and empirically grounded examples that the balance should be shifted back towards the informal. These arguments and examples are taken from informal learning in very diverse situations, such as in leisure activities, as a preparation for and as part of work, and as a means of surviving undesirable circumstances like dead-end jobs and incarceration. Informal learning can be fruitfully thought of as developing the capacity to make context sensitive judgments during ongoing practical involvements of a variety of kinds. Such involvements are necessarily indeterminate and opportunistic.
Reconstructing the Future Cities as Carbon Sinks
The built environment is a critical factor in the climate equation since buildings and physical infrastructure are directly responsible for about 40 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. Fortunately, there are many new ways to build better. These include timber high-rise buildings, AI-assisted design, serial prefabrication of building components, smart recycling technology, multifunctional land use, integrated regional resource management, and community-based urban development, to name just a few.

Real and Complex Singularities ; São Carlos Workshop 2004
The workshop offers the opportunity to establish the state of the art and to present new trends, new ideas and new results in all of the branches of singularities. This is reflected by the contributions in this book. The main topics discussed are equisingularity of sets and mappings, geometry of singular complex analytic sets, singularities of mappings, characteristic classes, classification of singularities, interaction of singularity theory with some of the new ideas in algebraic geometry imported from theoretical physics, and applications of singularity theory to geometry of surfaces in low dimensional euclidean spaces, to differential equations and to bifurcation theory.

Radiation effects of advanced electronic devices and circuits
Aims to disclose the basic mechanisms of radiation effects for advanced devices and the breakthrough of new solutions to assess and mitigate radiation sensitivity in advanced devices and integrated circuits. This reprint presents new modeling approaches that predict how radiation impacts electronic devices and circuits. Accurate models are essential for designing devices that can tolerate radiation without significant performance degradation. We also focus on the innovative design and fabrication techniques that enhance the radiation tolerance of integrated circuits. Moreover, some discussions highlight new testing protocols and methodologies that provide more accurate and comprehensive evaluations of radiation hardness, as well as the latest advancements and trends that are of particular interest to researchers and professionals in the radiation effects community.
Race, Ethnicity and Education in Globalised Times
This book broaches what has become a ‘noisy silence’ whereby conversations about race and ethnic relationships are understood as unbalanced, irrelevant or as too dangerous to speak about. It is concerned with the ways that race and ethnic relationships are spoken about in contemporary western societies such as Australia and the changed and confused debates that underpin those discussions. Parents and teachers at one State secondary school in Melbourne, Australia speak about race and ethnic relationships as their school community is increasingly altered by globalising, technological and population change. Newspapers and public policy debates avoid discussions about race relationships even as discussions about national identity and direction are crucial themes. This book argues that race and ethnic relationships must be understood in new ways; that the analytical frameworks provided by constructivist thought and post-colonial writing must be interrogated to provide more comprehensive methodological resources to examine these relationships.
Quantum Imaging
Quantum Imaging is a newly born branch of quantum optics that investigates the ultimate performance limits of optical imaging allowed by the laws of quantum mechanics. This book contains the most important theoretical and experimental results achieved by the researchers of the Quantum Imaging network, a research programme of the European Community.
Quantum Field Theory and Noncommutative Geometry
This volume reflects the growing collaboration between mathematicians and theoretical physicists to treat the foundations of quantum field theory using the mathematical tools of q-deformed algebras and noncommutative differential geometry. A particular challenge is posed by gravity, which probably necessitates extension of these methods to geometries with minimum length and therefore quantization of space. This volume builds on the lectures and talks that have been given at a recent meeting on "Quantum Field Theory and Noncommutative Geometry." A considerable effort has been invested in making the contributions accessible to a wider community of readers - so this volume will not only benefit researchers in the field but also postgraduate students and scientists from related areas wishing to become better acquainted with this field.
Quantization and Arithmetic
(12) (4) Let ? be the unique even non-trivial Dirichlet character mod 12, and let ? be the unique (odd) non-trivial Dirichlet character mod 4. Consider on the line the distributions m (12) ? d (x)= ? (m)? x? , even 12 m?Z m (4) d (x)= ? (m)? x? . (1.1) odd 2 m?Z 2 i?x Under a Fourier transformation, or under multiplication by the functionx ? e , the firrst(resp. second)of these distributions only undergoes multiplication by some 24th (resp. 8th) root of unity. Then, consider the metaplectic representation Met, 2 a unitary representation in L (R) of the metaplectic group G, the twofold cover of the group G = SL(2,R), the de?nition of which will be recalled in Section 2: it extends as a representation in the spaceS (R) of tempered distributions. From what has just been said, if g ˜ is a point of G lying above g? G,andif d = d even g ˜ ?1 or d , the distribution d =Met(g˜ )d only depends on the class of g in the odd homogeneous space ?G=SL(2,Z)G,upto multiplication by some phase factor, by which we mean any complex number of absolute value 1 depending only on g ˜.

Public Health Behind Bars : From Prisons to Communities
Chapter authors identify the most compelling health problems behind bars (including communicable disease, mental illness, addiction, and suicide), pinpoint systemic barriers to care, and explain how correctional medicine can shift from emergency or crisis care to primary care and prevention. In addition, strategies are outlined that link community health resources to correctional facilities so that prisoners can transition to the community without unnecessarily taxing public resources or falling through the cracks.
Promoting community resilience in disasters : The role for schools, youth, and families
A myriad of models are available to guide practice before, during, and following disasters. As emphasized in this book, we value the role of research in informing our assessment, education, and intervention efforts in this area. Keeping an eye on those elements that have research backing certainly assists with quality control generally. However, more specifically, we also stress the idea that there is evidence to support a role for hope and positive expectations in the motivation and engagement process.

The work addresses key issues concerned with Bayesian programming, navigation, filtering, modelling and mapping, with applications in a number of different contexts.
Pro PHP-GTK
PHP is gaining positive reputation for its system administration and client-side application development capabilities. This administration and development is accomplished using the PHP-GTK extension. You can take advantage of client-side applications by implementing language bindings for the GTK (the GIMP Toolkit) library for creating cross-platform graphical user interfaces. Pro PHP-GTK acts as both a definitive reference and a hands-on tutorial to the PHP-GTK extension. The book couples the extension's key topics with practical examples to guide you through a real-world project: developing a database-driven client-side inventory manager. You'll also learn how to integrate this feature with other emerging technologies like SOAP and RSS, and how to generate XML-based interfaces.
