New Directions in Cognitive Information Retrieval

New Directions in Cognitive Information Retrieval presents an exciting new direction for research into cognitive oriented information retrieval (IR) research, a direction based on an analysis of the user’s problem situation and cognitive behavior when using the IR system. This contrasts with the current dominant IR research paradigm which concentrates on improving IR system matching performance. The chapters describe the leading edge concepts and models of cognitive IR that explore the nexus between human cognition, information and the social conditions that drive humans to seek information using IR systems. Chapter topics include: Polyrepresentation, cognitive overlap and the boomerang effect, Multitasking while conducting the search, Knowledge Diagram Visualizations of the topic space to facilitate user assimilation of information, Task, relevance, selection state, knowledge need and knowledge behavior, search training built into the search, children’s collaboration for school projects, and other cognitive perspectives on IR concepts and issues.

Our project aims to aid deaf-mute people by tracking hand movements of the deaf-mute person for word level American Sign Language using WLASL model that include 2D CNN -3D CNN and RNN networks training on WLASL large video dataset, then generating the corresponding text and analyzing the person's facial gestures to generate information related to the tone of voice that is most appropriate to the person's age, gender, and race through MTCNN network algorithm that training on generated dataset by us depending on blending VOXCELEB dataset and VGGFACE dataset .

Foundation models for natural language processing : pre-trained language models integrating media

Covers basic natural language processing models, pre-trained language models BERT, GPT, and sequence-to-sequence converters, as well as the concepts of self-attention and context-sensitive embedding. Various approaches to improving these models are then discussed, such as expanding the pre-training parameters, increasing the length of input texts, or incorporating additional knowledge. An overview of the best performing models is then provided for about twenty application areas, e.g., question answering, translation, story generation, dialogue systems, image generation from text, etc. For each application area, the strengths and weaknesses of existing models are discussed, and an overview of further developments is provided.
