This book contains revised and extended versions of the best papers presented at the 16th International Conference on Information and Communication Technologies in Education, Research, and Industrial Applications, ICTERI 2020, held in Kherson, Ukraine, in October 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the conference was held online. The 8 revised full papers included in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 347 initial submissions. The papers are organized in the following topical sections: ICT in education; ICT in research and industry.
Information and communication technologies and real-life learning : New education for the knowledge society
The IFIP series publishes state-of-the-art results in the sciences and technologies of information and communication. The scope of the series includes: foundations of computer science; software theory and practice; education; computer applications in technology; communication systems; systems modeling and optimization; information systems; computers and society; computer systems technology; security and protection in information processing systems; artificial intelligence; and human-computer interaction. Proceedings and post-proceedings of referred international conferences in computer science and interdisciplinary fields are featured. These results often precede journal publication and represent the most current research. The principal aim of the IFIP series is to encourage education and the dissemination and exchange of information about all aspects of computing.
Information Access through Search Engines and Digital Libraries
he Information Management Systems group at the University of Padua, led by Maristella Agosti, has been a major contributor to information retrieval (IR) and digital libraries for nearly twenty years. This group has gained an excellent reputation in the IR community and has produced some of the best-known IR researchers, whose work spans a broad range of topics.The papers in this book deal with e.g. automated text categorizations, web link analysis algorithms, retrieval in multimedia digital libraries, and multilingual information retrieval. The presentation of original research results built on the past work of the group which at the same time summarizes past .
Informatics in Control, Automation and Robotics I
The present book includes a set of selected papers from the first “International Conference on Informatics in Control Automation and Robotics” (ICINCO 2004), held in Setúbal, Portugal, from 25 to 28 August 2004. The conference was organized in three simultaneous tracks: “Intelligent Control Systems and Optimization”, “Robotics and Automation” and “Systems Modeling, Signal Processing and Control”. Inconsistency tolerance
Inconsistency arises in many areas in advanced computing. Often inconsistency is unwanted, for example in the specification for a plan or in sensor fusion in robotics; however, sometimes inconsistency is useful. Whether inconsistency is unwanted or useful, there is a need to develop tolerance to inconsistency in application technologies such as databases, knowledge bases, and software systems. To address this situation, inconsistency tolerance is being built on foundational technologies for identifying and analyzing inconsistency in information, for representing and reasoning with inconsistent information, for resolving inconsistent information, and for merging inconsistent information. The idea for this book arose out of a Dagstuhl Seminar on the topic held in summer 2003. The nine chapters in this first book devoted to the subject of inconsistency tolerance were carefully invited and anonymously reviewed. The book provides an exciting introduction to this new field.

As for its predecessors, the theme of CIAA 2004 was the implementation of automata and grammars of all types and their application in other fields. The topics of the papers presented at the conference range from applications of automata in natural language and speech processing to protein sequencing and genecompression, and from state complexity and new algorithms for automata operations to applications of quantum finite automata.
Image-Based Rendering
Image-based rendering (IBR) refers to a collection of techniques and representations that allows 3D scenes and objects to be visualized in a realistic way without full 3D model reconstruction. The potential for photorealistic visualization has tremendous appeal, especially for applications such as video games, virtual travel, and E-commerce, which stand to greatly benefit from this technology.
Image recognition : progress, trends and challenges
Focuses on research trends in image processing and recognition and corresponding developments. The response to the call for papers for ICIAR 2006 was higher than the two previous editions. From 389 full papers submitted, 163 were ?nally accepted (71 oral presentations, and 92 posters). The review process was carried out by the Program Committee members and other reviewers; all are experts in various image analysis and recognition areas. Each paper was reviewed by at least two reviewers, and also checked by the conference Co-chairs. The high quality of the papers in these proceedings is attributed ?rst to the authors, and second to the quality of the reviews provided by the experts.
