Prof. Dr. Abeer Alkafree

Prof. Dr. Heba Al-Sabbagh holds a Ph.D. in Medical Parasitology from the Faculty of Medicine at Damascus University, alongside the Syrian Board in Laboratory Diagnosis. She also earned a Master’s degree in Laboratory Medicine and a Bachelor of Medicine (MD) from Damascus University.

Throughout her career, she has held several key scientific and administrative positions, most notably serving as the Head of the Laboratory Medicine Department at the Faculty of Medicine, Damascus University (2019–2021). Since 2022, she has served as the Head of the Basic and Medical Sciences Department at the Faculty of Dentistry, Arab International University (AIU). Additionally, she has been an active member of prominent national institutions, including the Board of Directors of the Medical Laboratory Association (Damascus Branch, 2012–2019) and the Syrian Board of Laboratory Diagnosis for a decade (2014–2024). In recognition of her academic excellence, she was awarded the Al-Basel Award for Scientific Research in 2010.

Dr. Al-Sabbagh teaches various courses in Microbiology, Parasitology, Medical Mycology, and Immunology for students of Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, and Nursing at both Damascus University and AIU.

Her extensive research portfolio includes a wide range of papers published in peer-reviewed local and international journals. Her work focuses on epidemiological studies of parasites, fungi, and infectious diseases in Syria, with specific research on Leishmaniasis, Norwegian Scabies, Demodectic Blepharitis, and Dermatophytosis. She has also conducted vital studies on parasitic diseases in children and domestic animals, as well as antibodies for transmissible diseases. Her research serves as an essential scientific reference for the epidemiological status of parasitic and dermatological diseases in Syria over the past two decades.

Bridging deep academic expertise with extensive laboratory practice, Dr. Al-Sabbagh continues to contribute to the advancement of medical education, scientific research, and the training of future generations of physicians and laboratory specialists.
