Dr. Hanadi Sarhan


Faculty Member at the College of Architectural Engineering – Arab International University

An academic and researcher in the fields of architectural design and engineering education quality development, she has combined academic, research, and professional experience both within and outside Damascus University. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering from Damascus University and continued her postgraduate studies in architectural design, earning a Graduate Diploma followed by a Master’s degree in Architectural Design. Her research focused on applying environmental quality concepts in residential buildings in Damascus. She also obtained a Master’s degree in Environmental Risk Management through a joint program between Damascus University and the University of Poitiers in France, and later a Ph.D. in Architectural Design from Damascus University. Her doctoral research centered on developing architectural education in Syrian universities in light of quality assurance.

She began her professional career as a seconded engineer at Damascus University and later joined the Faculty of Architectural Engineering, where she has been working in the Department of Architectural Design since 2002 to the present. Her responsibilities have included teaching, academic supervision, and follow-up. She also contributed to the Quality and Accreditation Office at the college and played a role in developing and preparing the internal regulations for the Faculty of Architectural Engineering.

Her academic experience extended beyond Damascus University, as she was seconded as a technical faculty member to the International University for Science and Technology from 2011 to 2016. She currently works as a part-time faculty member at the Arab International University.

She has authored a number of research papers published in peer-reviewed scientific journals, addressing topics such as the quality of architectural education, developing communication skills among architecture students, and the integration of design courses with supporting curricula. She has also published environmental articles in the Tishreen newspaper and participated in the Environment and Sustainable Development Conference in 2004.

Additionally, she has taken part in local and international workshops, most notably the DAAD cooperation program between Damascus University and Germany’s RWTH Aachen University, workshops for developing the Dummar project entrance, and the International Summer School of the Faculty of Architectural Engineering, which focused on developing the Al-Jisr Al-Ra’is (Al-Jazmatiyah Axis) in Damascus.
