ARCH. Maria Awad
An architect holding a Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering from Damascus University and a Master’s degree in the Restoration and Rehabilitation of Historic and Heritage Buildings from the Chaillot School in France. She possesses over 20 years of extensive experience in the fields of architectural design, restoration, engineering supervision, and university teaching.
Since 2009, she has been working at the Arab International Private University (AIU) as a faculty member in the College of Architectural Engineering, where she teaches architectural design, site planning, and the graduation project program, in addition to preparing and conducting practical workshops on design and restoration concepts. She also works as an accredited lecturing engineer with the Damascus Countryside Engineers Syndicate, training engineers applying for the assistant engineer rank.
Representing the Arab International University, she has participated in international projects and workshops focused on empowering women in academia, in collaboration with the Spanish Virtual University (UNID) and the American University of Beirut (AUB).
Since 2021, she has been working as a senior engineer at Imran Company on the restoration and rehabilitation project of the Sulaymaniyya Takiyya in Damascus, in addition to her role as a project manager with Lakah Office for Engineering Studies and Consultancy on multiple projects, including the implementation of the Al-Sham Bank branch in Daraa and the design plans for Speedex Company in Al-Mazzah.
She has extensive experience in both the public and private sectors, having contributed to the design and implementation of numerous residential and service buildings in Damascus and its countryside. In 2021, she attained the rank of consulting engineer in the Damascus Countryside Engineers Syndicate and has been involved in auditing various engineering projects.
She has presented several research papers in the fields of restoration, traditional architecture, natural materials, and the empowerment of women in academia, in addition to her specialized research on the restoration of Khan Al-Ruzz in Damascus.
She possesses advanced skills in design software such as AutoCAD and Photoshop.
